Vlad:
Amen!
Angel Bashing... aren't we the same folks that looked forward to all the Angel and Spike snarking and one-upsmanship earlier this season? Now when we are getting it, we are tearing apart Angel...whose actions I personally rather approve of...mostly.
I don't have any remorse for "Dr. Flox." He was the enemy. Yes, he appeared to be "frightened" of going against the club owner...but come on! Since when did "I was jsut following orders" ever cut it? He did not deserve Angel's help. He was a man that was doing evil things that ended up having bad returns for him. And the fact that later on in the episode we find out that Angel seemed to have Gunn shut down the "bistro", we learn that maybe Angel was letting our evil, soon-to-be hirisute doctor sweat a little and ended the situation anyway. It's all about having a reputation folks. Angel needs to be feared by the baddies. They need to believe that he'll do whatever it takes. They understand that kinda thinking. So Angel has his reputation of being ruthless. Good for him.
Angel meant it when asked about mercy in Ep. 2. "You've jsut seen the last of it." Of course this is when he leaves the bad guy ALIVE and leaves. Now, what do you think this evil henchman is gonna say about Angel when he talks to the next Big Bad that's recruiting minions? Angel did indeed do what needed to be done (They were certainly out to kill him and weren't about to stop)...and did more than meets the eye immediately.
So, maybe we want to step back and look at Angels actions with a little less jaundiced eye. He is still trying to fight evil and be the champion. We should all know from the last season of BtVS... you don't ever defeat evil..you simply win some of the battles. Doesn't mean you don't try, but you don't get anywhere by being Don Quixote either. The fact that the werewolf gal was cute and blonde...come on folks... who's being superficial now? Do you think if she was a 300 pound 4 foot cube with mousey brown hair he wouldn't have done the same thing? Sure, after the fact he is "interested" in her, but that is after the fact. Don't hate him for finding an attractive woman ...attractive. She was truly an innocent here...far more than Spike. Spike can take care of himself. This gal was innocent and truly needed the champion at the moment... and which is the greater good? Saving the world from a newly formed werewolf that will surely go out and infect even more people, or forgoing that to save a ghost, who isn't harming anyone in that state?
As far as Spike goes... well, let's jsut say...it's not a good or evil situation. Angel doesn't know of Spike's imminent vaporizing so it's not "immediately important." He isn't Spike's buddy. Far as he knows, Spike deserves this current fate. He knows no more than us why Spike got sucked into that amulet or came back as an "almost ghost." Maybe the PTB intend this. He knows Fred and her entire department are working on it. That's part of being the CEO.. letting those that know how to do their jobs DO THEIR JOBS. All of them have an awful lot on their plates.
So let's not be overly harsh of Angel.

What Vlad said . . . this is what I've been trying in one way or another to articulate this morning. Vlad is just better than I am at putting words to paper, er computer that is.
Thanks Vlad . . .
