Ok, just one more thing before I go to bed. I actually was thinking that Wes' father should have been nicer to Wes regarding the books. The Council just lost all their books... they should be salivating over the idea of those books as a resource. So, that is why I thought he wanted to protect the books. I was already suspicous of the father but I didn't know where it was going.

terrific episode! so gonna NOT miss an Angel back episode anymore! Reason? Wes is the man. The man. Ya hear? Hoo-boy. ME has been hiding him, fer sure. Now I know what I've been missing on Angel. It ain't Cordelia. It surely ain't Lorne. Gunn is good, and getting better, but he's not the energy source. Fred? Well, they all want her, but Knox seems to be getting to her. But, ole Wes? Hoo-hah! He's surely the energy source, just as Angel is the steering wheel and the steering column, Wes is the battery. Oh yes. Want to see Spike corporeal. Want to see Spike and Wes bond. Want to see those two energy sources ignite at the same time, on screen. And, if they are fighting alongside Angel? They gotta be unbeatable. Really nuclear. Can't wait. Show was so good, can barely talk in whole sentences. Sandy --- I went over the edge sometime around 9:50-9:55. fell. off. a. 30. storey. building. Now, I can't wait to see Angel tomorrow afternoon - and damn! I work late on Thursday, so I will miss it! Damn. Now am obsessed. Damn Mutant Enemy. Damn Joss Whedon. What can I say? the pleasure, the pain. ahh.. I won't be sleeping early tonight. Makd, what did your MOPS think of the ep?

Wowwww!!! What happened to "episodes will be lighter this season"? This ep was awesome. I love the James Bond Wesley at the beginning, I felt so sorry for him when his "father" showed up. "His mother thought he was quite the prodigy." I actually yelled NOOOOO at the screen when Knox interupted Wes & Fred, though I'm sure she knows how he feels now. He was willing to kill his father for HER.
Anyone else notice Eve tell Fred, "Let us know if you need more resources"? Fred was warned about being over-budget to corporealize Spike, but it's okay to spend more for the cyborg project? Perhaps W&H really did mean Spike to wear the amulet and they want him kept incorporeal. As usual, this ep raised more questions than it answered.
Funny quote--Spike: I thought Wesley was grown in a greenhouse for dandies.

Oh, and when the cyborg was garotting Gunn, how Spike really, really concentrated--and popped the cyborg hard enough to knock it down?
Also broke a glass beaker! Definite progress in the corporality area!

I thought the continuity factor from that episode to this one was pretty neat -- all about Wesley having been "headboy," and Spike's whole "when Percy was younger, he used to be known as 'headboy,'" and Angel's response "I already knew that."
I definitely think that AD should be in the running for the new James Bond now that Pierce Brosnan has announced he's giving up the Aston-Martin.

So, Yay, I got to see it. It was still pretty snowy, but I got the gist of it. The 'sex with robots" comment had me on the floor. I like snarky!Spike as much as the next person, but I'm going to get irritated if that's all he is played for the entire season. He went through some extrordinary changes in the last year and I want to see that come through. I felt a little better after the elevator scene, though. Can't wait for next week. Now on to Wes: I love him. I wanted to give the poor thing a hug the entire episode. I couldn't really see his expressions very well, but I just pictured him the way he looked at the end of Billy. I thought for a minute that maybe the robot/father knew something about the mindwipe and was going to tell him. Oh,here's a question. The girl he had to cut up in pieces? Was that Liliah? If it was, wasn't his memory of their relationship wiped, too? Remember, I've never seen any of these episodes. Someon enlighten me. I wonder if Eve is there to promote mistrust among everyone. She seemed to be trying to do that with Angel at the beginning. Um...that's all I have to say for now

Forgot to mention in my long post, love the fact that it looks like Fred is starting to get a clue how Wes feels. Now she has a decision to make -- Wes, or Knox. The plot thickens.

Makd, what did your MOPS think of the ep? Thanks for asking, Laura. He liked the episode, but there's a sitcom story here: MOPS played a full 18 holes of golf earlier in the day, then went out to din-din with the ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out [his clique]), having drunk 3 beers and having ate a heavy pasta meal. He fell asleep 15 minutes into Angel, then awoke 15 minutes later, (Like Frida at the crematorium), and asked what was going on, and where was Wesley Snipes? He meant Wesley Windham-Pryce, of course! By then, I was torn between (1) catching my breath at the action on TV, (2) laughing (still) at the snarky Spike dialogue, (3) laughing at MOPS, (4) wishing I could keep better track of the not-an-arc storyline, (5) wanting to give Spike a hug for snarking at Eve in the elevator, (6) wanting to give MOPS a hug for the Wesley Snipes comment (This is of the good. This is a Wesley Snipes house.), and (7) wanting to ....well...give Wes a little more than a hug. He Rocks! Clearly, I am reasonably good at multi-tasking.) MOPS caught on fair enough quickly, and watched till the end of the episode. Immediately after Wes called his parents, MOPS fell asleep again. About 10 minutes later, he did the Frida thing again. He'll be doing the snooze/Frida thing for about another hour, then it'll be to bed to do the sleep of the dead. By the way, when MOPS sleeps, he sleeps on his back, with his arms tucked over his tummy. Like a dead man. (He really does share a lot of characteristics and traits with Spike. )

An American James Bond? Not sure the Brits would go for it. I think they're pretty protective of their superspy. Pierce Brosnan is Irish -- I haven't heard any complaints about his playing the very English Bond.
Besides -- George Lazenby? Please.
And anyway, AD has pretty much proved over these years that he can do the accent -- and those moves he showed tonight with the guns! Hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not a mystery to me why this one was so good. Goddard = gold. He simply doesn't know how to write bad dialogue. Joss gives him the pivotal ones already...with good reason.
1. The moment when Wes pulls that trigger without hesitation ranks with that series's finest moments.
2. Terrific performances all around, especially from Alexis Denisof (obviously) and Roy Dotrice. I used to like Vincent's old man too. Does every father in the Jossverse have to be a difficult man? Makes for great drama, though.
3. Marsters, as always, made the most of what he was given...in my opinion, he and Andy Hallett handle comedy best among the cast. I particularly liked his effort to show compassion to Wesley, however clumsy it was.
4. Having said that, I don't care much for patricide being played for laughs. I guess they were trying to lighten the intensity of what we'd just seen, but...certain things just aren't funny. Both Spike and Angel take that far too seriously to speak of it in such a casual way. That didn't ring true to me, and is my only negative impression of the episode.
That is not a criticism of the characters, just to make that clear. Just a qualm with the way the situation was treated.
5. I seriously need to spend some quality time with Eve in that elevator. Damn, she's a hottie.
6. One thing I found very clever: I was going to be annoyed that no mention was made of Giles...until I saw that Wesley's dad was also one of those Westworld types (kept waiting for one of them to say "draw....draw.....draw"). Naturally, being a cyborg, he wouldn't really know what was going on with the Council at the moment.
7. One would hope that everyone finally realizes that Spike is firmly on their side after saving Gunn. Slowly, but surely, he is joining the fold. Plus, he's got Eve's number (wish I had her number). She clearly has plans for Blondie. Wonder if they're sinister...
8. The Iron Eagle reference made me laugh. Iron Eagle III, for those who are interested, might be the most ridiculous movie ever made. There are worse films...but few are less realistic.
9. Last point: I like the character of Knox. I don't like him with Fred. Wes and Fred would be a perfectly natural match. Spike and Fred is a fascinating thought. Knox and Fred just isn't interesting to me.
Overall, right up there with the best of the year, mainly because Alexis Denisof is their secret weapon, and they finally utilized him. The Wes plotline arrives!!
