sigh- I know what you mean Patti Hubby's working late- kids farflung- feeling blue but not in the mood for actual phone conversations with friends- still hanging in here and listening to to '50's girl groups songs- am taking suggestions for an episode of Buffy (season 1-7) or Angel (Season 1 - for a nitecap Well, if you want to sleep, the best is season 4 - Beer Bad.

Sorry, Shanno. I should know better. But you (almost) refrained. Seriously, I used the word "sex" deliberately - it's because, to us geneticists, "sex" is chromosomal, while gender certainly is not. Well! And I thought I knew everything about sex! Nice to know there are still some surprises waiting for me out there! And...considering the number of times the term "gender issues" has been used in my house, I should have known better. Doh, me! Shanno There has to be one place where I don't have to refrain!

ooh, ooh! Everyone, stand back! She's mine, mine, I tell you! Well, first, you must go to the fanfiction threads. There are two of them: one is for the fanfiction archived here, and the other is for fanfiction archived elsewhere. Second, you have a seat in the comfy chair, and Gail, BetsyL, and Deborah (my mentors) and I will tell you the BEST of the fanfic - from spuffy, to spangel - and back! Third, we will tell you how NOT to become addicted to fanfic. Oh, wait, we are all addicted to it...... Drats. You can have me, too. I finished DOOUL and "Nicolette Says Jump" and am feeling kind of forlorn. There may be a "body art" joint open late around here where I can get my tongue pierced, tho.

(Backs into a corner with her hands in a defensive position) Okay, okay - this is why I didn't 'fess up sooner. I'll be happy to read favorite suggestions. It's nice to be wanted. . . . Okay, off to do the Charmed thing now. See you in a bit.

<snip> Lastly, remember that Persephone was abducted by Vulcan, the god of the dead... If I see any pigs on Angel, I'll know The Fury keeps a copy of Joseph Campbell at the desk! I thought Vulcan/Hephaestus was the god of the forge, and Pluto/Hades was the God of the Dead/Underworld.
Incidentally, my Sicilian half requires me to tell you that Hades ascended from the underworld in Sicily, out of Lago di Pergusa, near Enna!

I can't believe I'm referring to my previous posting on Demeter and Persephone, but, hey!
One more thought:
IIRC, the password to the Wes' vault in W&H was "Elysian Fields". Aren't they related to the Eleusian mysteries?
Don't know; can't find. Help on this one?

"The Eleusinian Mysteries, held annually in honor of Demeter and Persephone, were the most sacred and revered of all the ritual celebrations of ancient Greece. They were instituted in the city of Eleusis, some twenty-two kilometers west of Athens, possibly as far back as the early Mycenaean period, and continued for almost two thousand years. Large crowds of worshippers from all over Greece (and later, from throughout the Roman empire) would gather to make the holy pilgrimage between the two cities and and participate in the secret ceremonies, generally regarded as the high point of Greek religion."From users.erols.com/nbeach/eleusis.htmlElysium, also known as the Elysian Fields, on the other hand, was "a land at the farthest and westernmost edge of the world to which the great heroes were carried, body and soul, and made immortal. There they were free to pursue their favorite activities, and worries and illness were unknown. Soon, however, Elysium came to be regarded as the abode of the blessed dead, where the souls of dead heroes, poets, priests, and others lived in perfect happiness, surrounded by grass, trees, and gentle winds and enveloped in rose-tinted, perpetual light."

From encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761568302/Elysian_Fields.html Yes, I'm cool too!
Bit of trivia -- in the south of France, in Arles, there's an old Roman cemetary called the "Aliscamps" -- the derivation of which is from the "Elysian Fields."
Okay -- tired now, still haven't read the Times, and so don't want to go to work tomorrow -- fortunately, I've made it a 2-1/2 day week, so that's the only thing getting me going!
See you!

You can have me, too. I finished DOOUL and "Nicolette Says Jump" and am feeling kind of forlorn. There may be a "body art" joint open late around here where I can get my tongue pierced, tho. 1. Forget the tongue piercing. It only leads to all kinds of dental hygiene disasters. 2. try this site: www.squashduck.com/ltd/index.htmLink to the Spike/Angel stories, and read Dear Wesley, Dear Angel, and Ipso Facto. Close the door to the room, first, because, like DOOUL, you will be laughing out loud, and the hour is late. (You don't want to wake anyone up, right?) 3. After you've read these, you are now ready for more serious fanfic. Like to read about the Scoobies? Try Rob Sorenson's novels (Trust me, they are novels - and they start good, and just get better and better.). Are you a Spuffy, but like adventure as well as a romance? Read Nan's novels and Mary Stanz'. Think Spike and Angel are true lovers? Then, stay with Jenny, and add Deadboy and Capt. Peroxide to your sites (reachable through it'sabigrock.com. In other words, after you have laughed your behind off, come back home and read the terrific fanfic we have here. When you're done with them, you will know more about what kinds of stories you like and what relationships/characters you want to explore. Let me know, though, cause I have begun to print out my favorite stories and novels. I intend to bind them, eventually, or at least "spiral" them. 4. Also, one part of the fandom study I am involved in is a study of fanfic, so I've been a studyin'. Goddess, but I love my job!

oops! my bad! Vulcan IS the god of fire and metallurgy - the forge! Thanks for catching that! I just loved the Vulcan story - the only lame and ugly god, and yet married to the goddess of love. Nice. Must've had some hidden, um, talents.

From Laura:

There goes THAT theory. Thanks again, Laura!
