I wanna be first, oh I hope I'm first, I never get to be first. edit Yay! I got to be first. I am usually playing catch up and everyone has already moved to the next part before I even realized the one I was reading was closed down. So I'm first and currently up to date on reading posts. I feel like it's my birthday.

I was waiting for the new part to open, because I wanted to post something shallow but on-topic.
Watching "In the Dark" today, I was suddenly struck with the radically pretty-boy look our Spike was sporting; in some scenes he looked as if he's been showered with the kind of pearlized powder that brides used to wear. Does any one remember another time (beyond, perhaps, "School Hard") that he was made to look so femininely gorgeous? Was it just a matter of being on another show, with a differnt make-up crew, or do you think there was some conscious creative decission to make him look so fragile relative to Angel?
Julia, as I said, shallow, but in a deep way

Julia, as I said, shallow, but in a deep way Spike looked positively incandescant and rather pearly in BECOMING Part 2, especially in the scene where he first appears, clocks the cop and talks truce with Buffy (and lights up a cigarette). He was sooo purty!

In the Dark is not my favorite Spike moments, except for the mocking Angel on the roof part, so I never gave it too much thought.

I noticed that too, but have no idea if it was makeup or a creative decision. In the Dark is not my favorite Spike moments, except for the mocking Angel on the roof part, so I never gave it too much thought. It's December, I should be devising some creative and marvelous Christmas present for my closest relatives (and boy, howdy, is it too late for me, the least of the family, to change the rules right now) and instead I've taken it upon myself to systematically study the minute details of Angel Season 1 while wiping my nose every thirty seconds. "In The Dark" is hardly admirable Spike, but it's a necessary episode to make full sense of the Buffy Season 4 Spike arc. He does seem to be at some sort of bottom here, at least in his own perception, but the next four episodes of Buffy show him just how much lower he can go, in the sense of personal power and ability to effect his environment. But, BOY is he way too pretty in "In The Dark". Julia, and oh, yeah, he does have interaction with Oz before "New Moon Rising" so it would have made sense, in "Unleashed" for both him and Angel to mention that special wolfie guy

Grr, and also ARGH!
I'm writing up this fellowship application for the American Heart Association. Linking studying alcoholism to heart disease. Yadda yadda yadda.
Problem is, I can do that - there's a big ol' link. But they keep asking me to do it again. Three times now I've edited the same sentences to put them in a new place in the application.
What, do the same folks not read all the pages?

Humans, well, not much we can do about them, is there? Sorry you're being jerked around. Julia, sounds like a very important piece of research, too It's just, well - bureacracy. And boy does that look spelled wrong. They have lots and lots of money to give away, and lots of people who want it, and an easy way to eliminate some of the people is to make lots of hoops to jump through, and cross off the ones who don't make all the jumps. It's basic research (as opposed to clinical research), which makes the connecting more difficult - but while I understand having to explain the connection to the general public, because, honestly, mutations that affect the way flies respond to ethanol. . .well, to most people it's not obvious how that connects to human alcoholics and heart disease and diabetes (yup, we have an insulin project here, too). But the scientists who review these proposals should understand and only need to be told once!

For background on this post, see Part 83. Page 33 or 34 I think.
Boy oh boy...what could be more fun than driving on an interstate at 6pm toward a mall during Christmas season?
Anyway, a good tip for people in a hurry: if you're going to shop at the Mall at Millenia in Orlando during Christmas, park in front of Neiman-Marcus. Regular people can barely afford to walk in the place, which makes parking pretty accessible.
Well....less than a mile away, at least.
So I went into the Cheesecake Factory, and you know what my sister's (broke) boyfriend says?
"Hey Rob, want something to eat? I'm buying."
Such a funny guy, he is. Anyway, the waitress practically ran up to our table when she saw me sit down. That was mildly amusing, though I felt a little bad for her. They'd taken up that booth for over 2 hours, so I tipped 7 bucks on a 22 dollar tab to make up for it a little.
Anyway, we walked around the mall a bit, and I went into FYE (an entertainment store with music, DVD's and stuff). I headed for the TV section and found all five seasons of BTVS available.
The Season 1 cover is just Buffy. The Season 2 cover is Buffy and Angel. The Season 3 cover is Buffy, Angel and Faith. The Season 4 cover is Buffy and Willow. The Season 5 cover is Buffy and Dawn.
"Hmmm," I said to my sister, "someone is conspicuously absent here."
And what did she say to that?
"Rob, nobody cares about Xander because he had no power. Get over it."
This, from the girl who just got her little BUTT saved by me. However, I said nothing. After the smoke coming out of my ears cleared, we left the mall.
By the way, the boyfriend didn't even say he'd pay me back. Ungrateful little troll. Well, he's taller than me actually...ungrateful gangly troll.
Ok, now I've vented. Going to watch the rest of 24.

Rob, this story makes me appreciate my BIL. Which is not easy, as he doesn't like me, doesn't take sufficiently good care of the cattle to meet my standards, and does like pigs. But, he rarely runs out of money and gets all sideways about things until he pays off his debts. Of course the chances of him being cashless in a mall are vanishingly small, but I could see him embarrassed at NAPA or somewhere... Julia, the people our sisters get involved with tut tut tsk
