I think I agree more with Anne and Sue. While there were some great moments and some great material, especially, as noted. House's inner struggles and AB's role, I felt there were too many *convenient* moments - the writing and plotting felt very manipulative. And I don't care how "in touch" with his inner nice guy House gets, I just don't see him getting up and doing that rap. My biggest concern is with something more subtle, that I've discussed with my husband (a psych rehab counselor) many times - the two edged issue of taking or not taking meds. While there was a nod to the issue, there was a definite bias towards the taking of meds, and little effort to show WHY so many don't want to do so. House's fears that his *spark* will fade is a valid one. In so many cases the choice isn't between *mental health VS mental sickness* but between *somewhat improved mental health + major side effects VS manageable coping without meds.* Sure there are definite cases where meds are the only way to become functioning as the alternative is terrible. But the issue isn't as clear cut as this episode made it appear, and I'm not convinced the issue for House, in particular, is as clear cut. I hope this is followed up. I'd like to see House deal with the issue of taking meds, and maybe have the rapper dude brought back and a look at how maybe his creativity has been stunted. You know, you've brought up a really good point about the side effects of medication that aren't really ever discussed on the show. I wonder if in addition to having a doctor as a consultant, they should also have a pharmacist. I have a couple different medical issues that require me to take many medications, and I can personally attest to the fact that some doctors don't really know (or at least don't fully explain) the side effects when they write a prescription, nor do they always warn patients that taking a pill to fix one ailment might cause another ailment, thus necessitating another pill! I often have to scour the internet for information about what pills my doctor prescribed to really get an understanding of what's going on with my body. It can be really frustrating. And of course this gets waaaayyy trickier when it comes to mental health. People can react very differently to SSRIs--and often there is no way to know how someone will feel until after they have taken the pill for weeks, or even months. I hope that House continues to see Nolan (AB) on an out-patient basis. At the risk of, well, being me, I'm betting that part of the reason they go light on the side effects bit has something to do with *cough* who sponsors the show. Check out the "Promotional consideration provided by..." bit at the end of each episode. I can't recall right now, but I know there are medical suppliers who sponsor it...I wouldn't be remotely surprise if a drug company or two didn't as well. It's a good way to publicize your med without that annoying rule that you have to list the side effects 'cause it's not an official commercial. EVIL. I still enjoy the show, though.

I almost wondered if it was Chase leaving the show and not Cameron, because they gave him such a meaty role last night. He's a much better actor than I thought. He looked positively haunted at the end. He's just really lucky it worked and the guy was that grateful.

Love seeing James Earl Jones - he commanded the scenes - even lying in a hospital bed. Sooooo interesting how the power of the mind can overcome a real physical feeling, like pain. Makes you wonder what else it can do if given the right stimulus.

Last night proved that House is well and truly fucked-up, even when he means well. Sticking a syringe into a guy and duct-taping him to a chair just so he won't have to move out of Wilson's apartment. Truly fucked up. I don't think it really was about staying in Wilson's apartment. I mean, I think he would have "duct taped the guy" if he had to, to cure him, even if the apartment thing wasn't involved.

(classic House) 2. Now that I feel better and am dealing with the world because I have dealt with my own pain I want to make everybody else be happy happy joy joy. (new, improved House) 3. maybe less about having to move out (not just selfishness but FEAR of what living elsewhere might bring) but also proving to Wilson that he can fix it.

Will there be consequences?

So is 13 off the show now? Huh.
And once again House does something really wrong for the sake of doing something good. He dug up (or made up?) the med orders that would explain away the difference in the cholesterol readings. Will this be a do-over for Chase, and he'll just act like nothing happened, or will he still grapple with his decision?

Well, that was ... exciting.
Incredible chase scene at the beginning--better than most cop shows. The "perp" was quite an athlete! And, yes, that really is what happens when you try to jump across roof-tops -- gravity grabs you way faster than you move forward. Amazing scene with him falling to the ground.
And then the scene in the morgue as well! Yikes!
Chase -- good to see the psychological consequences as he keeps trying to convince himself that it was "the right thing" to do. Would his wife understand? Wasn't she the one originally endorsing the idea (although that doesn't mean she would follow-through.)
Of course, if he goes down, won't he take Foreman's career with him?
Contrast that with House -- who knows what happened and has clearly abetted him getting away with it and doesn't seem to be suffering any remorse. AND: big issues aside it's the little things -- like deliberately pulling on that woman's catheter? [Surely he just pulled it loose from the bag, not from her? Although she certainly jumped.] About half of Jim's speaking engagements deal with "Disruptive co-workers in the work place (i.e. hospital)." They have a series of protocols for interventions but if those are unsuccessful the doc is fired, no matter how "brilliant" -- it's not worth the financial risk.
Anyway, kudos to House for recognizing that he might still be hallucinating and then solving that puzzle as well. And nothing surprised me more than him whispering to his dad at the end.

I can't remember the back story on his relationship with his father...I know they didn't get along (big shocker, there) and...didn't his father choose not to tell House that he as dying?? Ah, my memory sucks. I enjoyed the scene with House & Foreman nearly jumping out of their skin when the cop re-animated. Hee! I didn't like the way they tried to pull our heart strings with the doe-eyed son. It was a tad too manipulative for me. Oh, and while I got a kick out of the opening chase scene (it was like a small-scale version of the opening chase scene in the Bond movie, Casino Royale), I didn't quite see how the cop landed on his back when he was jumping toward the building. *shrugs* I suppose it's possible--it's not like I've ever tried it!

If I remember rightly, there was a whole bit about House not wanting to believe his father really was his father, and showing up at the funeral just so he could steal a DNA swab. It almost makes sense; I mean, the man was obviously raised by wolves*. As to the whispering, I suspect House was either trying it out to see why Wilson found it so comforting (not to mention that Wilson would rather talk to his dead girlfriend about his day than to House), or, more likely, yanking Wilson's chain. Or possibly both. *Please note that this is in no way intended as criticism of wolves, who are in fact beautiful animals, the finest of predators and, I am sure, very good and loving parents. It's just an expression, so please don't bite me.

House was abused by his "father" -- in the discussions he has with Eve (the rape victim in One Day, One Room), he discloses that he was forced to take ice baths and sleep outside in the cold if he did anything that displeased his father. (First he told her it was his grandmother, then he admitted it was his father.) And in Birthmarks, House tells Wilson that he when he was 12, he told John House that he didn't believe that he was his father, after which John didn't speak to him for several months. The DNA sample he swiped at the end of the episode "proved" that he had no biological relationship with John House, but his reaction ("Wilson, my dad's dead") speaks volumes about how he really did think of John -- the man who indisputedly raised him -- as his father.
It was Chase's father who didn't tell him that he was dying when he came to visit from Australia (and consult with Wilson about his cancer treatments).

OK.
Am behind so just now watching House with the guy who falls off the roof:
Obviously paralleling guy with Chase ("I've crossed some line, I can't get to the other side.")
What do we start off with? Nothing other than: a CHASE!!
So I'm thinking: This is gonna be about: a CHASE!
We watch a guy trying this and that and the other thing to get out of trouble, and another guy chasing him . . . . guy1 does manage to get out of trouble for now, but guy2 can't get to the other side . . . goes crashing. Not fatal, but he's badly hurt ("shoulda died, but he didn't.")
So sounds like Chase is going to "crash" but not die, as a result of what he's running away from (himself, of course . . . he's both the chasee-bad guy- trying everything to get out of trouble - and the chaser, our good guy, who just wants to catch him and stop him.
Interesting that our good guy crashes taking a wild chance, because he thinks he's going to die anyway.
OK - have video on pause. Will watch more and come back when I have more thoughts.
Have not read other posts yet, so as not to be spoiled, but will when I get done.

OK, so right after House tells Chase "all you need is to talk to someone and it'll all be OK, he lies and says "it'll be OK" to the patient. But lies and reassurances from House don't do the trick to make it all alright.
Our patient dies anyhow.
This is not looking good, for Chase.
ETA: OMG!!! I almost had a heart attack myself!
But good news for Chase.

OK - well . . . our patient is tricked into focusing on the wrong thing as the cause of his pain, so he makes a wrong choice, and pulls out his tooth.
But when the true cause is identified and treated correctly, all is well.
Corresponds, I suppose, to Chase getting drunk and starting to screw up his relationship with Cameron. He doesn't want to face what he really has to do . . . though the priest told him what he needs to do for his pain.
Though House's last sentence to his Dad - that's he's been focusing on the wrong thing, that there were some good times, harkens back to the tooth pulling as well.
Lots o' daddy stuff going on in the ep.
