I culled five books out of my craft library. Why did I have a book on the sewing of ultrasuede garments? Complete with patterns, yet. The only sewing of ultrasuede I've ever done was by hand, of ears onto emery mice and leaves onto emery strawberries, and that because I have a stash of 8x10 pieces in flower colors, purchased to make flowers. Weird. I also discovered that I have two copies of a book on goddess animal imagery. Either it cloned itself, or my dad very kindly snagged two copies from library donations, many years apart. I really need to move Paul's boxes of crap from in front of the metaphysical bookshelves so I can actually see what's in them. Oh well, I'll pass the duplicate on to Daria. Emily is watching a Nova about Darwin whilst and at the same time reading Ontogeny and Philogeny. She says she's on an evolution kick. It runs in the family; all of us go on research kicks at regular intervals. 'night, S'cubies, here's to a better tomorrow. I've always enjoyed those. Learned a lot about many obscure, interesting but ultimately useless things. Diane *anybody want to know how to bind feet?*

Below zero temps outside, snuggled into a nice warm bed inside... yeah, I practically needed the Jaws of Life to get my ass up and moving this morning.

Rigel and the Witch Head Nebula Credit & Copyright: Rogelio Bernal Andreo (Deep Sky Colors) Explanation:[/b] Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble -- maybe Macbeth should have consulted the Witch Head Nebula. This suggestively shaped reflection nebula on the lower left is associated with the bright star Rigel, to its right, in the constellation Orion. More formally known as IC 2118, the Witch Head Nebula glows primarily by light reflected from Rigel. Fine dust in the nebula reflects the light. Pictured above, the blue color of the Witch Head Nebula and of the dust surrounding Rigel is caused not only by Rigel's blue color but because the dust grains reflect blue light more efficiently than red. The same physical process causes Earth's daytime sky to appear blue, although the scatterers in Earth's atmosphere are molecules of nitrogen and oxygen. Rigel, the Witch Head Nebula, and gas and dust that surrounds them lie about 800 light-years away.

No where near zero temps, mind you. Only in the 50s--but pouring like a #Q*%^W%^r! out there. Drive in was so NOT fun. Diane *why does bad weather bring out the STUPID in people?*

Yawn. Work. Great part opener Onjel. So I am here. I'm not working very hard but I'm here. I downloaded Tweetdeck yesterday and it keeps seducing me with all it's shiny. New Years - well since I said no to the boat I have no plans which is kind of depressing. Kiersten's new duo is to Charlotte Martin's The Stalker Song and Robin has them stalking Edward Cullen and the song is seriously cracking me up. At least Robin is using Kiersten's Twilight obsession and putting it to good use. On the other hand my daughter is officially learning how to stalk but I figure RP will see them dancing up to him and have time to run. It's going to be a fun year.

New Year's Eve also happens to be my dad's birthday, so we'll be going out to dinner as usual. It's also a milestone birthday for him--the big 7-0--so Mom's invited some friends to surprise him at dinner; he thinks there'll be six of us, when in actuality it'll be more like 16. I suspect we'll be home before midnight, so who knows--I might be able to stop by here afterward.

Post by Anne, Old S'cubie Cat on Dec 30, 2009 10:29:21 GMT -5
When Patches came rattling the door (very politely, she is a Lady) this morning, I rolled over and squinted at the clock and it said something:29, so I crawled out of bed. I didn't realise until I got into the den and looked at the clock there that it was 6:29, an hour late for cat first breakfast. So I fed the cats, turned up the heater, then went back to bed for fifteen minutes. Today the Husband and daughters are going to the Aquarium of the Pacific, and he wants to leave around 9AM, so of course we all slept late. I'm staying home. I may potter around with some small jewelry projects, I should go for a walk to see if my back and hips loosen up any, but I might just go back to bed after everybody else leaves. It's in the mid-40s and damp here, which is nothing to the rest of you, but miserable to us wimpy So-Californians. Especially the ones with an attack of the Marvins.

This morning two city water mains burst. The entire town is without water. Public works expects to have them fixed by 10 AM tomorrow. Maybe. Plus there will be a boil water notice in effect until they can determine the water system is not contaminated.
I don't know how much more 2009 fun I can stand.

It's warmed up to 36.8F here; for the past week or so it's been five degrees colder as a high and a minimum of fifteen colder as the overnight low- still merely cool by Sara's standards, and noticibly warmer than the earlier cold snap. Of course it warmed up and rained enough between the two freezes that there was lots of new green grass growing, which is now frozen, chartreuse, and smelly: one of the less wonderful aspects of the NW winter. I've got to finish cleaning the dining roomtable today; it would be easier except Franklin"cleaned" a folding table that's in the way of my storage space and then neatly stacked it full of little piles of his stuff, again. Julia,
