Hi folks! Yeah, it's me. Your eyes aren't deceiving you. Sorry about the long absence. I took a bit of a sabbatical. And went on a cruise with Shan. We had a wonderful time. For those of you that tried to contact me to no avail, I am sorry. To those of you that didn't realize I was not here... well, I am sorry for that too. Anyway, 'nuff about me. Let's get to what's important... We have three wonderful new reviews for you. One from Sara and a pair from Erin. I am sure you have all been waiting expectantly for them and they have been waiting expectantly for you to read them! So go and do the mutual satisfaction thingy!
We have for your pleasure:
Company Man by Sara and Parasite & Five Years Gone by Erin
Now, this is the part where I urge you to not only read them, but go to the discussion thread and talk about what you read. Extoll their virtues, praise them, damn them... jsut don't ignore them. Even if you think everything has already been said, at least give them a big Eetah.

WE DID IT!!!Yes! We made it. House Resolution 296 has enough backing to get out of Committee! 50 of YOUR representatives have agreed to back it. For everyone who took the time to contact a congressperson, thank you! Here is Beth's notification to everyone who helped!
We did it!!!! They are still verifying and a few names will still float in, but by my official tally, we are at 50! That was the minimum to get out of Committee and take House Resolution 296 to the House Floor.
The goal was by Thursday and largely in part to the collective efforts of this list of recipients and many others my brain cannot wrap around right now, we got this out and done. Just in time for it to pass during our week and better still, just in time for Mother's Day! What a gift. The best kind, the kind that goes to the heart. After all these families have been through, and the daily struggle to explain, pronounce, educate and sometimes just get by the day, how appropriate it is that we are now here. It really feels poetic. Words will never express how much I appreciate everyone's efforts and time. This resolution is representative of what is now and tomorrow for this community, not what once was. We can use this to build a better awareness, to educate, to fundraise and work on Capitol Hill statebound and federally for the future of eosinophilic disorders. Congratulations to you all. YOU deserve this- Much Appreciation, Beth

My thanks to everyone who helped. Today Hon. John Lawson (CT) presented H. Res 296 to congress in an impassioned, heartfelt and distinctly non-political speech. From Beth: Dear Family and Friends. For those who do, and those who do not know, please indulge me on this email. It's only just beginning to sink in as I deliver what I now can only begin to feel as the wonderful news it is... We at APFED (my organization) have proudly written a federal resolution to the House of Representatives requesting the 3rd week of May be declared National Eosinophil Awareness Week. That is this week. The resolution was sponsored by the Honorable John Larson (CT) and it then became House Resolution 296 in the very end of April. This resolution is going to give us a dedicated week so the organization and families may reach out to their local and national communities to educate them and spread awareness for these disorders. We do this regularly already, but much like other Awareness Weeks/Months, we now can dedicate efforts to specific timelines and agendas. Additionally, APFED has developed a 3-5 year political agenda to help support our needs and cause. Over the past two weeks, hundreds of families across the USA came together called and wrote their Congressperson urging them to help and support this legislation. 100s. Not 1000s like most legislation. But these are dedicated individuals who would not take "no" for answer. We obtained the necessary 50 signatures with an additional 8 signing on in just 10 business days time with the support of our amazing volunteer lobbyist Michelle and Cong. Larson.
TODAY! At approximately 2:45pm Congressman Larson and Congresswomen Lois Capps (CA) and Sue Myrick (NC) presented impassioned speeches supporting H Res 296 on the House Floor. It passed and we are now sitting in the midst of the first National Eosinophil Awareness Week.
Congressman Larson's speech may be seen at www.house.gov/larson/ It is not long, but he is very genuine and one can tell immediately they are not looking at politics in action, but a man who genuinely supported this resolution. Beth leaves for Washington in the morning to speak before congress to urge them to pass the resolution and make it law. On behalf of Beth, Charlie, the members of APFED and all the families suffering from this disease, my thanks to everyone who called their representatives to get them behind this resolution.

Okay folks, it is my immense pleasure to bring to you something I have been pining for... for .... well, for frikkin' ever.
You know how a good parent will tell you they love all their children just as much, if differently? But, as you parents know, you sometimes have that guilty feeling inside where one of your kiddies jsut seems to have that little extra special place in your heart?
Well, I must confess, this is my particular golden-boy of fanfic and we finally have another chapter! That's right, Rob Sorenson is back with a brand new chapter of that little thing he calls...Yes, finally Chapter 35! Now, it's been some time and I must confess I had to back up a chapter and sorta get refreshed. I would recommend that to all his loyal readers. I was going to recap here, but then I suddenly realized I didn't want to spoil those folks that haven't had the pleasure of knowing Rob's enormously great work.
So, for those of you in the know.. well, you have probably already stopped reading this crap and are delving into Rob's wonderful tale. For those of you that have missed out so far, I highly encourage you to start reading The Chronicles of Truth, where-in Rob picks up the ball about halfway through BtVS Season 7 and delivers a masterful alternate Buffyverse... a Robverse, if you will. As Rob always likes to remind folks, please, sorta work yourself through the first book. It has the issues that any author's first born can have. Enjoyable, entertaining and satisfying, it does pale in comparison to the books that follow. And really, how often does one get to say "Oh, it jsut gets better and better every single chapter and book?" Yeah. It really does.
So, go read Rob Sorenson's Chronicles of Truth: Trust, Chapter 35. It may be the best part of your day. It can be found on the top shelf of the bookcase in the Fanfictional area of the S'cubie website. And, once you have gotten your breath back, please join in the discussion of this work in the fanfiction discussion area on our message board.Vlad

Hi S'cubies, Just an update to let you all know that Kirsty came home from hospital yesterday after her bladder surgery. The surgery lasted for 12 hours in the end, but she came through it well and her doctors are pleased with her progress so far. She's been to hell and back over the last couple of weeks and still has a long way to go, but I have no doubt in my mind that she'll cope with what's to come, just as she always has in the past. She had a bit of a relapse last night (which frightened us half to death) and had to go back to the hospital for a thorough examination this morning, but *fingers crossed* everything seems to be settling down again now. I can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of her. She's a strong girl - a lot stronger than her mother at times! Thanks for all of your messages of support. They really have helped, and I appreciate them more than you know. {{{S'cubies}}} Cal

Hi S'cubies,
I've already posted this on my LJ (f-locked) but thought I'd post it over here too, as so many of you have been asking me to keep you all updated:
I'm not quite sure where to begin, other than to say that we've had some shocking news about K today. The hospital contacted us yesterday afternoon, asking us to take K in to see her surgeon today. We thought it was a bit strange, but didn't really worry about it as she's been doing really well over the last few days. How wrong we were.
It turns out that they've left a surgical swab inside her abdomen. They knew that they'd lost one (so Mr P told us today), but nothing showed up on the x-ray they did after her surgery. However, it showed up on the x-ray they did on Friday (after she'd been ill on Thursday night). To say we're shocked is an understatement. We don't really know how to feel...or what to do...or anything. Stunned doesn't even begin to cover it. I know we need to find out where we stand legally, but I have no idea how to go about it. All I know is that my girl is going to have to undergo even more surgery now...surgery that should never have been necessary in the first place. Because her surgery was carried out so recently, they want to wait a while before doing the surgery to take the swab out. But leaving it in could also cause problems - she'll be at risk of infection for a start. So they're keeping her on augmented antibiotics until further notice and she's going to have to go and see her surgeon every ten days until they do the surgery. Any problems in the meantime and we have to take her straight to A&E.
They're planning on doing the surgery on August 30th, and it will probably take at least a couple of hours. She'll also have to spend a couple of nights in hospital following the surgery.
I'm trying to stay calm, but it's very difficult. It's happened and we can't do anything to change it. But omfg I am so angry right now!
Thanks to everyone for all of your messages of support on my LJ, and also for the PM's you've been sending me here. I really do appreciate it. Today's news was so unexpected and I'm really struggling to get my head around it right now.
