Whoa. I can't take credit for making this connection (just read about it on another site), but check out this exchange between Claire and the folks who were going to adopt her baby back in the first season ep "Raised by Another": CLAIRE: I just want to make sure that you're gonna take really good care of the baby.
ARLENE STEWART: Of course we will.
MR. SLAVITT (ATTORNEY): Now, I'll need you to sign and date here where indicated.
(He hands the paper and pen to Claire. She picks the pen up.)
CLAIRE: Do you know "Catch a Falling Star"? It's a song, like a lullaby.
ARLENE STEWART: "Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket."
CLAIRE: My dad used to sing that to me when I was little. Do you think you could sing it to the baby once in a while?
ARLENE STEWART: Of course.Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!

I thought it was a pretty damn good episode. I gave it an 8. For once we saw a female-only expedition into the jungle. There were times that Emilie de Ravin was a bit over-the-top, but overall I thought she gave a very emotional performance. Mira Furlan (of whom I've been a fan of since her years on BABYLON 5) was superb. And Cynthia Watros, AAA (I'm surprised that he didn't cause Mr. Henry Gale to shit in his pants) and the two actors who played Ethan and the prisoner, Henry. As for Evangeline Lilly - I'm trying to figure out if her acting was ineffective, or was it simply her character, Kate. ;)Hmmm . . . I'll go with Kate being ineffective and simply praise Miss Lilly for doing such a good job of projecting this.
Poor Kate! She seemed so determined to show how Alpha Female she could be, and instead:
a) She failed to intimidate Sawyer into giving her a gun and had to tell him about Claire's situation;
b) She failed to be an effective protector for Claire, who was so intent and obssessed with finding out about those missing two weeks that she completely disregarded Kate's efforts; and
c) She failed to intimidate Danielle, who simply called her bluff with a death wish.
I guess that Kate is more dangerous when she is being subtle. By the way, what did she find and has she told anyone about it?
We also found out a lot about the Others:
a) Ethan and the Bearded Guy are part of the Dharma Initiative;
b) The Bearded Guy does not really have a beard;
c) The Others are not a ragtag group as they have led the Lostaways to believe;
d) The DI must have a way and communication off the island, considering the state of their equipment in Claire's flashback;
e) Danielle's daughter, Alex, is alive and obviously doesn't approve of the DI's methods.
On a whole, a very intriguing episode.

It sure had it confusing moments, eh? I think that it was just like Libby suggested - that Claire was confusing the memories. ;D Yeah, it wasn't the most logical concept. But since when have the Losties been all that logical. IMHO, I think Eko completely believes that BalloonMan Henry is an Other and he was sending a message. A message that he knew about his Otherness and a message to the other Others that he was sorry he killed those guys. Well, and also I think he meant to scare the crap out of Henry.That was the least believable thing about the whole ep for me. And yet, I also really like what Matthew said. That it still got to him because it really pushed exactly the right button. That even though he knows it is manipulation, he feels soooo strongly about it that he can't help reacting even as he knows what BalloonMan is trying to do. Rousseau was fab! What a nice bunch of twists and turns. I'll let someone else tackle that, as I didn't catch all of it myself and didn't make notes of the stuff I did catch. I have similar thoughts about Sun myself. It would fit with Rousseau's cryptic remarks about them doing what they need to do. And with Sun taking care of the baby - since my other theory (if the drug wasn't a placebo) is that the stuff they injected Claire and baby with was something to make them into carriers of the whatever-it-is sickness. Henry did look frightened, but it didn't stop him from ignoring Eko's advice to 'stop talking'. Hmm. Now I'm wondering if the walls have ears. Henry said told Jack that the walls were 'thin' - and that's why he could hear them, but I really wonder if there aren't 'bugs' in the hatch. Ooooh, now that's an interesting possibility . . .

Nah--just substitute Hermes for Mercury and it's all Greek to us. *Groans* What she said: Hermes. Yeah, that's it. Hermes. Well, and I was actually going for the whole sorta-Indian Dharma thing and Egyptian symbols and then Greek/Roman mixture. But, that's all dull and serious. I'll certainly take credit for setting Sara up to give us a marvelous pun. ;D

I did not find that hard to believe. Not at all. I don't understand why many would believe that no one is capable of getting under Locke's skin. He is human. Also, this season has shown that he had to deal with anger issues before the crash in "Orientation". In fact, we've seen flashes of that anger back in Season 1's "Walkabout" and "Deus Ex Machina". And ever since Boone's death, nothing has really been going right for Locke. For example:
-Well, Boone's death in "Do No Harm" for starters, along with Shannon's unwillingness to forgive him in "The Greater Good"
-Walt's warning not to open the hatch in "Exodus - Part I"
-His suspicions that his efforts to rehabilitate Charlie might be backfiring (although Charlie isn't taking drugs) in both "Abandoned" and "Fire and Water"
-He was made a fool of by Sawyer (and Charlie) in "The Long Con"
-He was made a fool of by Jack in "One of Them"
I think that Locke's euphoria of being cured and being on the island is beginning to slip. And the one person who seemed determined to be a thorn in his side is Jack. When you think about it, Jack hasn't really fully accepted anything he has said since "White Rabbit". And I cannot help but wonder if he ever regretted encouraging Jack to become leader of the Lostaways.

Because Jack and Locke couldn't hear very much of Sayid's torture of Henry, just muffled screams.

Part of the way through rewatching. A couple of episodes ago, Eko was "marking the trees that he liked." I think in this episode he was chopping down those very trees? For what purpose?

Villagers with torches! Frankenstein! YES!!!!
I wanted to mention that when the Losties first met the BOG but wasn't able to get online.
Good reference. Experiments gone awry. Are the Dharmas (or the Others) experimenting in ways that could create monsters?
