So what the hell freaky-ass subculture of Thai society has such strong traditions that tattooing like that is a ritual that can't be shared with an outlander?

I'm guessing the tattoo says: Stranger in a Strange Land.... Isabel is another freakin' blonde lady. I like that theory! "He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us." Close. So, what did Jack mean by - "It's what they say, it's not what they mean."? 'Cause I got nothin'.

Well, what the hell does the tat say? And, who the hell is Isabel? Besides being the sheriff, I mean? I'm guessing the tattoo says: Stranger in a Strange Land.... Isabel is another freakin' blonde lady. That would be very cool! I like it. Heck, give it a few hours and someone will have posted a translation on the intarwebs somewhere. And, yeah, what's with all the psycho blondes?

One of the two-to-four, depending on your viewpoint. And the crap he had to go through to GET Rachel in the first place! Oi! It didn't involve poodles, did it? Well, maybe a labradoodle . . . .

But she was clearly using traditional tools, not the needles we'd see today. And it appears Jack got part of his tattoo another time—she only gave him the Chinese writing.

"Aloof leader, always on the outside looking in, through his own choice" is how I get it. He serves humanity while remaining apart from it, in general. Aloof, insulated.

Looks like her tattoo method was something akin to this.

Awwww. Poor little Jackie never got to fly kites. "No interest in your father". Huh. Well, things are lookin' up, eh? Yeah, I really wish Isabel would have TOLD us what the freakin' tat says. And by the way? I've decided I don't like her. ;D "Most of us don't even like to come here." Well, gee, I wonder why that is? ;D Interesting. Why did Jack lie about Juliette? Say that she didn't ask him to kil Benry? "I'd like to go back to my cage now." ;D Have I said how much I like snarky hostile Jack? 'Cuz I do. Hee! I loved that line. LOL! They need more fun on that island, that's for sure! That was so weird. And that's the 'better place' they're in that Karl referred to? Oh - and Ethan was their doctor? Cool. I miss Ethan. I hope they have another flashback with him in it. He plays freaky really well. I think Alex had a plan - and she played Jack perfectly!

Achara! And Bai is still wearing more and is more tastefully dressed than she would be if she picked her own clothes. Oh! She's a free agent and he's her pet! Quick! Get a clipboard! One of these days I want it to be that simple, dammit!! Totally! I can imaging what it would be like, seeing them all there, looking like "nothing's wrong", after all the things his group has been through, and what they thought these guys had been through? So not good! Absolutely adorable scene, but Sawyer's advice? Not really very practical. ;D Oh, it's a Jack!Plan, so you know it's got to be probably doomed good!

Looks like her tattoo method was something akin to this. Ouch! Her people really didn't like outsiders. Hmm... a lot like The Others.

He does have a god-complex, then. ETA: Or in other words, he has a Buffy-like superiority complex that he has inferiority complex about.

He does have a god-complex, then. He's a surgeon. Of course he has a god-complex. But that's not what I meant, so much. I think that it refers to his fear and his lonliness that she mentioned. I think he's afraid of making connections because those you make connections with betray you. But those who you help as an artisan, a surgeon, there's a relationship that has defined limits and boundaries to it. Which he didn't adhere as much to with his wife and with the daughter of that guy he surged on, that time: I think that that's why he's more distant now. For the same reason Doyle insisted Angel bill and issue invoices for his "helping the hopeless" services: to make it a defined relationship that would keep the person on the receiving end of the assistance from feeling obligated emotionally.

White hat Jack rides to the rescue, brought by Benry's daughter dearest. That got to Benry, seeing Alex there. Ethan was their surgeon? Oh, and that's not creepy at all. **shivers** So, why were they wasting their surgeon running around the jungle, hanging people? Let's make another deal time with Benry. Who tells Jack "she's one of us, she doesn't care about you". Not realising that Jack doesn't care about that. Ah! So here is the link to the flashback. Yep. We're back to the past, Jack following her to find out her gift. Which is to see who people are. And he is: a leader, a great man, lonely frightened and angry. Hmmmm. Sounds like Jack alright. Put it on me. (I was waiting for him to say "put it all on me", and then she'd hit him. ;D ) Ooh, and now we have a version of "there's always consequences" - lot's of almost Buffyverse lines tonight. And there we go. Benry says jump and the Others ask how high.
