Wily Alex.
But Ben is a great reader of character and faces.
Telling them about the deal.
For some reason, though, Benry REALLy doesn't want you blowing up the submarine. That's a good reason to follow through on the plan, itself.
Unless Benry KNEW that you'd know that, and would hence redouble.. *head hurts*
Oh! Rousseau is tearing my heart to little pieces!!!!
Hey, John! it's hatch-shaped! you should feel right at home!!
"One last favor"
"You don't knock"
"And if I said no, would it stop you from leaving?" "Of course it would"
Oh god. "I'll let them go as soon as you've left the island"
Benry needs to be eaten by rats with dirty teeth.
And Locke should probably be flogged for a while, technophobic island-shaman luddite buttton-pushing hatch-dwelling bastard.
John, you ARE an idiot. You beard the lion in his den?
"Con man, not a murderer" Don't DRINK that drink, John.
Or tur....
Too late.
"Or turn your back on a man who has EVERYTHING to lose."
Wow, John is a very lucky man, all things considered. 'Specially with how brainless he is.

Jack's gonna kill Locke dead. Quite possibly with his bare hands.

So John has a penchant for blowing up hatch-shaped subterranean/submarine spaces.
There's gotta be a Freudian interpretation of this..

John implies he killed Mikhail deliberately, so that his taking Alex hostage is more scary. Hmmm. "Juliette and Shephard . .. tomorrow .. " OK. "I want you to bring me the man from Tallahassee." OK, that sounds a lot more dorky than "bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia". ;D Oh, Benry. I do love your witty banter. "No John, unfortunately we don't have a code for 'there's a man in my closet with a gun to my daughter's head'. Although we obviously should." ;D And the bit about his daughter hating him, so maybe he's not the best hostage choice was excellent too. ;D Back to Locke's daddy. **snicker** Nice snarky line about it being awkward to invite him to the wedding. Man. Locke just can't keep it together around this guy. Ordering him to not go thru with the wedding and just so . . . foam at the mouth. I still think he should just have stayed away from the guy and the whole situation. "For all you know, I was a commander in the navy", and they share a look. So of course, Benry's gotta go all knowledge guy on him. I know everything about you! Here, let me tell you all you past history and your underwear size and who taught you third grade math. Aren't you scared of my keen investigational skills? Fear me! Fear Benry the all-knowing! Gotta get in his jabs - "did it hurt". "I felt my back break, what do you think?" Well, we get another demonstration of Limber!Kate. Nice. Hmmm. The Other guy is warning Jack about the room being bugged? "I'm not with anyone." Pretty accurate statement about Jack, really. "I told you not to come back." "I didn't think you meant it." I thought he meant it. Made a deal with them to go home. Trusts them because she told him to save Sawyer. Ah. Well, basically, he's letting you know that you are all now reaping the consequences of that request and decision. "I asked you not to come back and I wish you hadn't. I won't come back here for you." OK, does she get the fact that the guy was warning them about the room being bugged?

Huh. Alex lives with Ben? Well, sorta makes sense. "The man from Tallahassee" "We don't have a code for 'there's a man in my closet with a gun to my daughter's head' though we obviously should" HA!!! Daddykins!!!! Subtle.... Oh GREAT, Locke. Sell the kid out. Now the son's gonna die. Locke, he didn't get to be this good a con man by bending to the wishes of other people like this. Shame doesn't enter into it, like it would for you, John. It's a chess game. John's gonna get hit by a car. Maybe he'll get it while trying to save the son. "dignity" button. Don't get TOO close to him. He hasn't seen "24" recently. Huh. Benry nailed it right on the head, there. with the "blow it up" bit.' Totally nailed it. It's actually kind of ingenious. Keep yourself safe and unescapable from the magic island that lets you walk and, at the same time, get back at the evil Others by stranding them too. Ohhh, I hadn't thought of that explanation for his comment. Heh! ;D

So the cops don't believe he's the killer, now. and a Physical Therapist. Cheeful sadist. "Don't wanna hear about what you can't do" So PT de Sade here is the source of his "Don't tell me..." mantra? I think he's crying as much for the betrayed faith from someone he trusted as the lack of abillity to move his legs. Locke feels/knows he's been a tool of Benry's will? "To let him go would be a sign of weakness, failure, defeat" "Killing him would be the end" because the appearance of honesty is more important than the actuality. Magic box "No, I'm gonna show you what came out of it" "Wanted to know what it felt like when your own father tried to kill you" Huh. The one place he can never get to you. "Man from Tallahassee" is that John's father? What came out of the box? "Because I'm in a wheelchair and you're not" John WANTS to BELIEVE as much as Fox ever did. So what's in the Calvinator? Yep. His daddy.

So is Tallahassee a mystical probability nexus where weird coincidences just HAPPEN, in the Lost-verse? Didn't Karen suggest something, once, about the High Magnetic Field Laboratory ("The Mag Lab" as we called it) being possibly part of the Dharma Initiative?

Because we haven't seen or started talking about the episode yet, I'm going to share an interesting theory someone posited to Doc Jensen of EW.com: Remember what Ms. Hawking told Desmond, in "Flashes Before Your Eyes," about why she hadn't save the man killed by the scaffolding? Had I warned him about the scaffolding, tomorrow he'd be hit by a taxi. If I warned him about the taxi, he'd fall in the shower and break his neck. The universe, unfortunately, has a way of course correcting. She's not only saying that in the end the outcome (the man's death) will still come to pass, but also implying that any action she takes will have additional repercussions: suddenly a taxi driver has a death on their conscience, whereas in the first timeline the driver didn't. And we already know Desmond's done things differently in this timeline than before: buying the ring and pitching it in the river, as opposed to never buying it at all, and seemingly not enlisting in the Scottish army when we know he'd received a dishonorable discharge. So, what if the reason we suddenly have Nikki and Paulo mingling with the group but have yet to see Rose and Bernard is because something Desmond did resulted in Nikki and Paulo being on the plane instead of Rose and Bernard? From there, I had this additional thought just a little while ago: given the similarities in their look and personal dynamic, what if Nikki and Paolo didn't replace Rose and Bernard, but Shannon and Boone? Things to ponder, at any rate. Whoa. Cool things to ponder. Although, my head is going to explode now.

Wow. I said last week , I hoped this helped me understand why locke was acting the way he was. and I guess it did in a way, but I thought there would be more involved than him just wanting to stay on the island.
as it answered a question I sort of already knew , it also added 5 more for me, which of course I have come to expect from this show.
Come on, Alex even told him , he was manipulating him, cause that is what he does. Ben is the one that suggested blowing up the sub and John followed suit.
8 freaking stories!!!!!!!!!!! Good god!
I am so glad Danielle saw Alex. cant wait to see what happens there.
Remember Ben's agreement with Jack was "I will let them go when you leave the Island." Knowing the whole time that Locke was going to blow up the sub. So now he does not have to let them go.
Ben has to be what 40ish, and if he was born on the island that means his parents were there, how freaking long has people been on this Island.
It is interesting that Ben said with conviction that once they leave in the sub, they will not be coming back, nobody will find this island.
Good episode, just hate more questions. Michelle is on the verge of quitting it. She said it is just getting too weird , and quite frankly she has lost track of all the questions she wanted answered already, so even if they answer some she wont remember the freaking question.
I sort of agree with that, if you dont follow it, and talk about it on the msg boards or discuss it like we and some others do, I can believe you would get tired of the questions and not enough answers, I am afraid they are treading a thin line with a lot of fans.

Tallahassee? Great. The guy's freaking out and you cut off his disabillity payments. Fixes EVERYTHING. And he's still walk-able. Back to the Village of the Darned. Kate is gonna be jealous of Juliet, of course. Rolling Benry. Handshaking! heh. Nice understatement, John. " This is going to be more complicated than we thought" Echoing the thoughts of the fans, perhaps? Or telling us? Drew Goddard co-wrote this ep.

The kid that asked Locke about daddy is dead. Well, of course he is. After you told daddy that he was investigating him. Locke sees that Benry's weakness is wondering why his paralysis isn't being magically cured like Locke's was. Dueling mind games. Sayid handcuffed on the playground. Nummy! "Because you look like you mother." Yay!! Sayid!! Getting the word to Alex! Best, smartest thing evah! "We have two giant hamsters running in a massive wheel in our secret underground lair." Benry admitting he keeps people here? But from the way he says it, I can tell he wants you to blow it up. The sub "maintains the illusion they can leave". Which means you don't want them to, but you don't want it to look like it's you keeping them here. Benry tells him about a "magic box". Uh huh. So, is there a cat in the box, not alive and not dead? Heee! Locke's getting some excellent lines tonight too. ;D "I hope that box is big enough to imagine yourself up a new submarine." Very interesting argument between Locke and Benry. The Others are "cheating". They aren't truly embracing the island; they have electricity and so on, and they come and go. "Because you're in the wheelchair and I'm not." Zing! Keep hammering this point home, Locke, 'cuz it's the only ammunition you got. It's the one thing that really does bug Benry.

That's a good reason to follow through on the plan, itself. Unless Benry KNEW that you'd know that, and would hence redouble.. *head hurts* Benry is slipperier than a greased weasel. Locke really listened to Alex. "That's what my father does, he manipulates people." So, he blows the sub, even once he figures out that Benry really does want him to. Oh, so very very sad! The silent watching from the jungle, crying. And she doesn't even try to contact her. Well, that's also because Rousseau knows the Others. Knows not to let herself be vulnerable to their manipulations. Right now, she's the unknown factor. And that has (potential) power. Heee! That was my thought too. ;D My heart just sunk when he said those words. Very very very slowly. And then possibly brought back so they can do it again. I think he did feel a bit guilty. His "I'm sorry Jack" seemed genuine. But still. How much more stupid can you be than to walk into the home of the person you believe to be a murderer and say "you murderer, I'm on to you!" Stupid, stupid, stupid!! Once again, we share a brain. That was just absolutely stunning, that sudden rush and push out the window and fall. That he lived? Amazing!!
