I have so many conflicting thoughts about the end of the season. The Marti Noxon interview...her comments about leaving Spike too long in the basement has left me to wondering...if the writers aren't suffering over this being the end as we are. If perhaps that the end being in sight this whole year kind of 'took the wind out of their sails'.
I too, was put out over the fact of Spike's soul and his de-chipping was so blandly glossed over. With so much said by Buffy and for so long that he would never be anything, in spite of what he might do, without a soul. He goes and gets one and it's "Oh, ok, pass the gravy."
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the writers have missed huge character development (resolution) opportunities this year.

Great - I thought it was you. I remember reading your eloquent intro' post on the Episode board. You were talking about what drew you into the series and said something like "...and don't even get me started about Spike..." I thought 'Ahah! A woman after our own hearts. She ought to feel right at home over here.
All of us (I believe) started out on the Episode board and many of us still post there following new episodes. But when it comes to engaging in Spikecentric and/or completely off topic discussion this is the place to be. (Now why is the theme song from "Cheers" suddenly playing in my head? I never did like that show and made a point of NOT watching it. Still, my unconscious mind must consider it appropriate. So, you didn't say - have you read "Awkward Phase"?

(Wasn't This Discussed Waaaay Down the Misc. Board?) #16 Perhaps we need to add the topic of Spike's Pants to the web site?
Angel is, unfortunately, way more interesting than Buffy this season. Which, because it is the last season, gives Buffy an abandonned feel. So many lost opportunities for really good stuff. (Sigh).
I've printed out all the fan fic suggestions but am afraid to indulge right now because I don't want to subconsciously steal from anybody while writing my own. Plus, it brings on this whole inferiority complex which has stopped me before. There are just so many amazingly talented people out there. I just read a couple of books, whose authors have been published several times, that a vastly inferior to stuff on the net. If I were a publisher, I'd start reading fan fic and go to those people I though were really good and offer them a contract.

Just finished re-reading it. (I've been working my thru the authors list alphabetically). I sorta really hate "Works in Progress" because I have no self-discipline: I want the ending NOW! (Which is why I have a current love/hate affair with the reruns--it's good/bad to string out the pain/pleasure as long as possible.)
"Don't get me started on Spike." I had two kids leave for college in the past two years, which leaves a 15 year old at home. Even though I've been happily married for 27 years, she gets really bent out of shape if I talk about Spike--clearly this kid has never had a "Beatles"-type crush. So, this is where I get my fix.
I do have to add here that my older daughter (I may have posted this elsewhere) is a sophomore at Princeton and took an English class/seminar last semester in which the focus was musical theatre. They made several visits to Broadway musicals and watched a lot of classics like "Singing in the Rain" and "My Fair Lady". Point: They were also assigned to watch OMWF! And, in fact, were given three choices regarding final papers. Carolyn chose the one comparing OMWF to something else (something about whether there could be a happy ending or not). She knew I could give her all the quotes and websites. Problem was, all the other plays and movies are "standalones". It was EXTREMELY hard to treat OMWF as a "complete" story.

//Don't get me started on Spike//
Now I remember you, Sue. I clearly recall reading these words and waving you over here some time ago.
I love that BtVS is increasingly being included in the college curriculum. Even at Princeton! You all know that there will be a U.S. based academic conference about BtVS in Nashville in 2004? I think it would be a hoot to attend. My former English major brain loves this stuff.
It's kinda sweet that your 15 year old sees Spike as a threat of sorts...

Rae: Thanks for those sites. I think I've might have been to the first two but not www.televisionwithoutpity.com - didn't realize they did reviews. Oh, I agree absolutely about ScoopMe's reviews - they are by far the most intelligent and thought-out (not to mention funny) reviews that I have found. Ron's at Slayage.com are good too - I usually find myself laughing out loud at his (though I'm sure the boss doesn't really appreciate that!). Oh, if you want to read some hysterical reviews check out Logan Crawford's review of "Dawson's Creek" - I don't watch that show ever (and haven't since its first season) but his reviews are one of the highlights of my week (gee, that sounds a lot more pathetic when it's written down than when I say it in my head). I do not keep up with DC at all but his reviews never fail to have me practically rolling on the floor with laughter (again, something the boss probably doesn't appreciate!). If you need a good laugh, I highly recommend them (not that Logan's writing his laughable, he's actually quite good. His reviews just tickle my funny bone to no end!). Thanks again Rae!! -L

The matter of Connor's humanity has now become suspect as of last night's Angel ep. This raises something I'd like to discuss.
To wit: There is a legend that says that the offspring of a vampire and a human is a being called the "DHAMPIRE".
It's believed to be the vampire's worst nightmare, possessing abilities similar to the Slayer's. The Dhampire is super strong, super fast, extremely long-lived and is able to sense the presence of a vampire within a certain (unspecified) geographical limit. They also usually hate their vampiric parent.
Connor's the offspring of two vampires. What this means Joss only knows. Anybody care to speculate?

*Grins back at Lee*
Ok, well... *whispers* I do watch Dawson's Creek... and, despite the fact that Logan and I disagree on who should end up with whom, I always get a good chuckle (plus some mighty guffaws...spelled wrong I'm sure) out of his reviews. And, they are usually right on the money too!
Also, I have to write this quickly because I'm going to be late for a meeting (sad, huh?!). The Television Without Pity one didn't have a review/synopsis posted yet but they have posting boards where people were already discussing the episode. The reviews are really not to my taste but I do enjoy the posting board.

Athene,
Yeah. Well, Nashville is where I am. If you (or anybody else) comes I'd love to meet you. It's not a fan conference it's one of those "academic" ones. How do I update my poster profile to include my email address?

Diane, this certainly seems to jibe with what people have been speculating recently about the likelihood of Connor being a male slayer.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if ME had done their research and come up with this exact same information -- then applied the character traits to Connor. It all seems to be there. They'll probably stop short of the use of the word, "Dhampire". Because it seems to me that if there is a published description of the offspring of a human and vampire, that Fred would have found it by now. It's not that obscure a concept.
As an aside I'm looking forward to bookish Willow bonding with bookish Fred next week.

Oh, no way. I have friends in Nashville, too. So I was thinking it wouldn't be too far out of the realm of possibility to possibly go to this event. Not many details on it available yet, but the home base for announcements and such is the Buffy Studies Journal at www.slayage.tvI've promised myself that the fan conference Moonlight Rising (this June)will be my one and only indulgence into the Buffy con world (which gives my friend and I the excuse to say, "we're only gonna do this once, so let's take full advantage, and be big geeks about it and participate in the OMWF musical re-enactment and pay heaps of $$ for the privilege of getting our photos taken with the actors...) -- but an academic conference is totally different...way more respectable...I may have to think about it. Buffy didn't know she was the slayer til her new (first) watcher (in LA) came and told her. No bells ringing, but I think she had been having the prophetic dreams.

Diane, I am loving Angelus! I almost feel sorry for him - he was so scared that the 'Master' was going to put that nasty old soul back in him last night. I really enjoy David Boreanaz as Angelus, and love the biting Faith thing. Can't wait to see how that plays out. But I like hiim as Angel too. I just like the show very much. At the same time, there's no comparison to Spike - cause there's just no comparison. James Marsters (for me anyway) has an almost visible aura on the screen - he owns it and this viewer. While I enjoy David's Angel and Angelus, and think he's quite the chunky hunk, it's like comparing apples and diamonds...
