I have the DVD. Which is ironic since I paid to have someone create the first two seasons on tape for me previously.. You should get the DVD if you've never seen those shows. Worth it for the episode 'In the Dark' alone. Some great stuff by James Marsters and a vist from Oz...there's some really funny stuff in the first season of Angel.

Deborah, I liked that story too. I get so frustrated though when great stories remain WIP for months or maybe NEVER get finished. Lately I've been only reading finished fic, or fic I KNOW will be updated regularly.

Oh my god. Spike's opening monologue the most priceless thing ever. For those of you who need a refresher, Spike looks on from above as Angel rescues an innocent damsel in distress. This is vintage, pre-chipped Spike.
//How can I thank you, you mysterious, black-clad hunk of a night thing? (low voice) No need, little lady, your tears of gratitude are enough for me. You see, I was once a badass vampire, but love and a pesky curse defanged me. Now I’m just a big, fluffy puppy with bad teeth. No, not the hair! Never the hair! (high voice) But there must be someway I can show my appreciation. (low voice) No, helping those in need’s my job, - and working up a load of sexual tension, and prancing away like a magnificent poof is truly thanks enough! (high voice) I understand. I have a nephew who is gay, so… (low voice) Say no more. Evil’s still afoot! And I’m almost out of that Nancy-boy hair-gel that I like so much. Quickly, to the Angel-mobile, away! (natural) Go on with you. Play the big, strapping hero while you can. You have a few surprises coming your way. - The ring of Amarra – a visit from your old pal Spike, - and, oh yeah, - your gruesome, horrible death.//

I'd loved the script and last weekend at long last I finally saw the episode for myself. But I do have just one teensy little nitpick; as great as the opening Spike monologue was I think it would have even been more brilliant had he affected his fake American accent for it.

For those of you who haven't already, I recommend a trip to 'The Bloody Awful Poet Society' to read the review of 'Storyteller'. It is the best and most thoughtprovoking review I've read yet. Points to ponder: time-wonkiness, point of view, reality - are we seeing it?
Channeling 'coffee chat' now....'discuss amongst yourselves'!

One more thing...I'm referring to Sanguine's review, not Leoff's summary here.

Thanks, Patti, I hadn't been to that site in awhile, and Sanguine's reviews, I had forgotten, are always just provocative enough to keep the reader guessing -- but never giving it all away.
While watching Storyteller I was very aware of the camera, and perhaps was thinking too hard about what was on camera and what was off -- desperately searching for the 'a-ha!' in all of this. Reading that review made me feel a little better about not yet getting it.

Ah, I see the review is by Sanguine, an excellent writer. She wrote my 2nd favorite analysis of Season six (after Barb Cummings'). I will print off her "Storyteller" review to take home and read tonight.

This morning while getting ready for work I rewatched "Intervention" (for like the millionth time but who's counting?). The picture I have frozen in my mind (and I wish on my desktop but I don't think it would go over with my stuffy work environment) is the moment when Glory throws Spike on the bed. OK, I hate seeing a round of "kick the Spike" but that moment when she throws him on the bed and he's laying there with his hands tied behind him just gets to me. Let's just say if he was in that position I wouldn't be beating him up...we would be enjoying more pleasurable activities. Mmm...mind in gutter right now (which is not a bad place to be). All I know is this image has gotten me through the day. -L

There's a discussion going on on the Angel board about the similarities/differences between Spike and Angel. Particularly their motivations for doing good (selfish vs unselfish love). I enjoyed this essay so I posted it there and decided to post it here also. Go to: www.myarseisnotpansy.co.uk/piedm/spike1.html

The title says it all, except about the 5 pages already of discussion.

This is what I want to know:
Those of you who DO have the edit function - what browser are you using including version number please? (You can usually get the version number by opening "Help" on your toolbar and choosing "About Communicator" or "About whateveryouhave ". The version number should be given then. It looks like 4.1 or 5.0 or 4.73)
I have both Explorer and Netscape and neither allows me to edit. So the browser versions I work from are useless. I want to track down just how the lucky ones get to edit their posts.
Help, please.

I just finished that excellent essay. Thanks so much for posting the address. Sure hope the author will update it when this season ends. I already see so much of what she 'predicts' as having come true this season. Gives me great hope!
