Great review Spring… I’m wondering…(Besides the “unknown motivation waiting to be revealed”) could Lynn be faking her death as a publicity stunt? Echolls has already threatened to cut her off without any money. Does he have something on her that would negate the CA property laws? Or did she sign a prenup? Could the stunt be her way of making some $$ - either by selling her story in all its heartrending anti-Aaron pathos, or by using her “fake death” somehow to screw over Aaron? I’m eagerly awaiting AH too… It's hard to believe that a mother would do something that horribly hurtful to her son for a publicity stunt or money . . . who knows. I am hoping she is just plain dead - that they find her body soon -because we definitely don't need another mystery. I am guessing AH and . . . heck, I need to look up that wonderful young actor's name (Logan) . . . Jason Dohring . . . will be really fun to watch together.

Gee whiz, I go away for a few days and all sorts of people drop in and join the conversation. Hello one and all. (And the latest n'ubie signed in as "backup" so I'm guessing another VM fan. Would one of you guests or nubies let us know how you are finding your way to our reviews? It's very exciting and gratifying---altho Spring is much more experienced and gets her reviews out muc more quickly than I do.) Also waving to the "regulars" and semi-irregulars (you know who you are ) Went out of town and had limited computer access--feels like I've been off-planet for a month instead of New Jersey for for 4 days. Off to watch Desparate Housewives and get my JD fix, but hope to catch up on replying in the next few days. (Before that pesky review on Wed.)

Greetings,
I'm another newbie. I found your superb reviews via google. I then read just about everything posted on the Veronica Mars section of the board.
I'm a huge fan of Joss Whedon. I've got about everything he's done on DVD. First, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I never really watched Angel while BtVS was on the air). After it went dark, I switched to Angel and Firefly (Firefly on the DVDs, I only got a couple episodes in before they canceled it). I now await Season Five of Angel (it should arrive in DVD form this week and until then I am avoiding that section of the boards).
Anyway, after the evil network executives finally vanquished the light and intelligence we know as Joss Whedon from the airwaves, I withdrew from television. Veronica Mars has drawn me back into the fold. I plan to join in the comments once the next episode comes out.
But again, let me say I found the reviews of both Sue and Spring stunningly good. And they are the reason I tracked down this site. I registered after several hours reading through the various postings on VM.
Sorry for the ramble. I post at TWOP as EnPassant btw.

I just found this site. Great job on the reviews. The reviews are definitely very different from the HoYah, Un!Comfortable, BSK! TWoP recaps that I usually read, but equally as enjoyable. Since a couple of people were asking, Alyson Hannigan appears in the Feb. 22nd episode. Here's a non-spoilery photo of Alyson as Trina from neptunesite.com. The rest of the images in the gallery, as well as the rest of that site has tons of spoilers, so don't browse around if you don't want to know. Glad you posted, wykbbb. Welcome - and thanks for the photo link! I like the reviews and analysis here too. They always give me something to think about. Lola

I didn't make that connection on first viewing. Was I the only one that got a Buffy / Spike flashback when Veronica opened the door? Maybe it's just me or that my local syndicated Buffy is about to air "Becoming"? Even the Logan pose, with arms crossed, struck me as so "Spike". And Spring, I too loved the water imagery you highlighted in your as usual insightful review. Linda, liked your poolside vs oceanside thoughts. If I recall correctly, didn't Veronica awaken at poolside after the assumed assault in the Pilot? Any thoughts on how that fits with the lessons learned at poolside not being life changing? Perhaps, that this is something she will overcome and not be permanently scarred by? I vaguely recall she woke up poolside, too. I think she kind of stumbled out and collapsed onto a lounger thing by the pool. And I think she woke up there, but I can't totally remember. Lola

Lola Veronica collapsed not far from the jacuzzi filled with 09'ers. You see the pool in the background. She woke up in a bed indoors. This whole storyline makes my heart ache.

If you've read thru all of the VM threads (especially the first episode) you'll know that a number of us agree with you. I vaguely recall Rob in particular thinking that it was overkill--so much else happened to her that was the date rape really (also) necessary? Wondering if it has any direct effect on other plotlines. My major question is how she was able to keep from telling her dad about it--especially after she went to the Sherriff Lamb. I mean, how could Lamb know that Veronica reported a rape and Keith not find out? Did you ever get any testing or counseling? Is rape any less horrific if you have no memory of the actual assault?

Welcome, Bluesman, and thanks for the kind words about the reviews that Sue and I do. I love VM as well, and agree that the show is good enough to draw me "back into the fold." Like you, I watched BtVS and rarely watched AtS. I did watch Season 5 AtS, after Buffy was cancelled, but I've yet to catch up on AtS otherwise. Maybe I will some day; I was just so discouraged by the cancellation and can't seem to make myself get back to it. I was very happy to find a quality show like VM to grab my interest. And yes, do join in the comments on this thread or any other, any time! Now for the commercial part of our program:If you like our VM reviews, you might also like our BtVS analysis (I do those and they are incomplete-I have most of Seasons 2, 4, & 5): www.soulfulspike.com/reviews.htm and AtS analysis (Erin does those and she's almost done with Season 1): www.soulfulspike.com/angelphile.htmOnce you've watched AtS Season 5 and it won't be a "spoilery" experience for you, we also have two review threads for AtS 5 - they were done as "right after airing" reviews, like our VM reviews. There was Nan Dibble's official site review: www.soulfulspike.com/investigation.htm and a weekly "guest reviewer" review: www.soulfulspike.com/mytake.htm

Me too. I guess the rape will have to be dealt with, but I am dreading that. I trust the Rob to responsibly address the subject. He taught journalism to high school students. He has written strong young adult fiction. He cares about kids and the pain of growing up. It's trite. But Veronica's rape doesn't change her wonderful, bright nature. It has shattered her trust in people. It's destroyed her faith in authority. She wears a mask, which slips now and then to expose her pain. The rape happened after Lilly died and after her mother abandoned her. Her dad was going through his own pain of losing his job and wife, so she pushed the events deep down into her psyche. Unlike Lilly Kane's murder, she isn't pursuing the truth of those events. She hasn't had counseling. If Troy represented an attempt for her to move on with her life, he betrayed that trust leaving her more guarded than before. The one bright spot in the rape storyline is it may let people know you can move past that event. We read too many stories of women suffering rape. Maybe, we can see a heroine like Veronica move past that pain without wearing a scarlet letter. She did nothing wrong. She is not damage goods, just because some monster violated her soul. But she does have a lot of pain. And I really don't look forward to sharing that pain with her. I have an eight year old daughter who I cherish. I read to her from one of the American Girl books about a Nez Pierce girl named Kaya. In it, an older girl died. I get choked up reading that story to my daughter. I hate to think about the . . . Gah! I'm spilling out too much information. I'd be thrilled if Rob turned the event into some sick joke and we find out Veronica was not raped--the girl has plenty of pain and angst as it is. But either way, Rob writes compelling fiction. I'm hooked.

My visual memory, faulty as it may be, is reminiscent of a poolside cabana of sorts, a lounger with draped tent-like fabric behind Veronica. I could kick myself for not starting to save tapes until later episodes - and I neglected to watch the recent rerun of the Pilot. [bad leftylady! must rewatch the last episode extra times in atonement!] My hear aches for Veronica too. I'm wondering if they aren't going to just drop that plot point. Not telling her father, not getting Sheriff Lamb's attention on a reported crime, it all seemed a little contrived. The writers have got so many mysteries into the mix - Lilly's killer, Veronica's paternity, Veronica's mother's location, Eli-Lilly, Duncan's trauma, now Logan's mother's supposed suicide. One loose thread - a squicky one at that - that has not been mentioned in quite a while just disappearing entirely may not be missed by the general viewing public. It always seemed a little too daring for a "high school" themed show anyway.

Loved your review, Spring! I finally got to watch the entire episode. Thank goodness for VCRs. I especially liked your water imagery list. There are so many scenes that either take place poolside or oceanside. Logan's mom was supposed to have jumped off the bridge. And Lilly was killed by the pool. I wonder what the difference between pool scenes and natural water scenes mean to the writer. That last scene with Logan really got to me. It followed right on the heels of Veronica apologizing to Yolanda and Yolanda accepting the apology with a "I would have done the same if I had been in your shoes." I wonder if Logan, along with seeking Veronica's forgiveness, has also forgiven Veronica for telling Lilly about the kiss between him and Yolanda. In thinking about whether or not Logan's mom is alive, I wonder if she has abandoned him, then that is much the same as what Veronica's mother did to her - left her and her dad without a word. Also, and I'm probably way off base, when Logan's dad told his agent he was quitting the business, the first thought I had was that he and his wife staged the whole thing. Maybe to prop up his career? Maybe they are going to meet up in another country because they have money problems? I don't know. It was just a feeling I got that his dramatic exit was too dramatic. Thanks, Spring! Welcome Bluesman! I hope you get a chance to chat with the S'cubies on the main board sometime.

I'm wondering if they aren't going to just drop that plot point. Not telling her father, not getting Sheriff Lamb's attention on a reported crime, it all seemed a little contrived. Even though they haven't mentioned the rape on the show, they talked about it in the October 10th diary entry on the official site. That diary entry is heartbreaking.
