I really hope most of the bozos that run UPN get run out on a rail when they merge with the WB. How can you possibly screw up something as important as a SWEEPS MONTH PREVIEW?! Seriously, stupid shit like that can cost rating points. Tell me about it!! I know. They fixed it by the time the show aired on the west coast but the ratings were bad last night. Finished in 6th place, down from last week. Sigh!

And see how they faked out even those of us that guessed it was a set up! Logan not in on it, for once! ;D He didn't have anything to do with the cash, he didn't help set Dick up, he was just there enjoying the fair and meeting a girl. That's too perfect!. Well. That's weird. The did the "scenes from next week" only they were for this episode? WTF? I'm not so sure Logan didn't know who Hannah was before he put the moves on her, and that this wasn't a deliberate move on his part to try to learn more about his accuser. Um . . .I'm fairly positive Logan knew who Hannah was. He had a gotcha moment at the end as he looks at Dr. Griffith. Definitely a deliberate move on his part. I think his overly smoopy behavior - and I know Logan can be a total woobie but this was causing a serious sugar high - was a clue too. She really isn't the kind of girl Logan is attracted to either - Lilly, Veronica, Kendall - all much more snarky.

I wonder what he'll look like with hair - since it looks like he's growing it out. And nice ride he has - Veronica's color - green. I thought they took hair off Logan's head, and put it on Weevil's. They both looked cute, though. Bwah! Cute? I seriously dislike Logan's hair shorter and while Weevil may eventually get there - not a fan of the fuzz. Weevil certainly is continuing to be Veronified. Tricksy, using the innocent (Veronica - Leo, Weevil - 6 yr. old neice), instead of cutting his hair (which he couldn't cause of the whole shaved thing) he's growing it out.

Yeah, he told her Dick was working the slushie machine and she should go see him... something about he's good with royalty? I can't remember the exact quote right now but it was weird. I can't figure out what that was about. I doubt Dick is in on his plan but what why would he encourage her to go see him? Just getting her by himself? Personally, if I was trying to win her over, I'd keep her away from Dick as long as possible. ETA: Oh, I can't remember the order of the comments there. I was thinking that maybe he used the Dick thing to set up calling her "Princess" but I think he did that part first and then told her to go visit Dick. Yes, I thought it was strange that he mentioned "my friend Dick" too. Why would Logan want her to meet him? As usual, I'm going to have to watch the episode again before I can completely absorb everything that happened, but a couple things occurred to me when I watched last night. I don't like Logan's hair that short, but it does make him look younger. And that is a good thing, considering Hannah appears to be about twelve years old. She's cute as a button, she is. Logan is obviously using her to get to her father, Dr. Griffiths, and it will be interesting to see how that plays out. One of two things will most likely happen: 1) Logan will start to develop real feelings for her, or 2) he'll dump her as soon as he outs her father as a perjurer. Frankly, I don't know if I like either choice! Weevil is starting to transform himself out of his gang member persona, into...what? Can't wait to find out. I like that he is growing his hair out. And his niece Ophelia is so cute! Are Veronica and Weevil going to hook up? How will Keith feel about that, I wonder? And speaking of Keith--he is a better person than I (better person than me? I? See, I told you I wasn't a grammar nazi!) Keith had to confront Terrence twice about secrets he was keeping. First, he showed him the picture of Cook with Ms. Dumas, and secondly, played the audio of his convo with Sheriff Lamb about gambling. Both of those secrets seems to further implicate Cook in some way, so why would Keith be willing to take his case? Maybe Keith is right, and Cook wouldn't kill a bunch of kids, but that doesn't mean he's completely innocent. I do like Cook though, I don't get a creepy vibe like I do from Woody. I feel like we, the viewers, are being manipulated a bit into liking Jackie. Would kids at the school really be that cruel to Jackie because her father was accused of playing a part in the bus crash? Does Logan get the same treatment? His father murdered one of their class mates (Lilly), and is accused of killing one (Felix) himself and yet Logan seems just as popular as before with his fellow 09-ers. But Rob Thomas wants us to sympathize with Jackie, so she gets taunted by Dick, has rude things written about her in a bathroom stall, gets dunked in the dunk tank a million times, and accused of theft by Madison and the bitchy Ms. Hauser. I actually do like Jackie now more because of this episode, but I'm fully aware that I'm being manipulated into feeling that way. Whatever. I completely agree - Rob has in fact said that viewers will sympathize with Jackie later in the season (he said it in the fall in an interview) and while I can see the manipulation - I honestly don't mind when the actress sells the scene. Tessa was great last night and I applaud her for her acting redemption. The actress playing Hannah however - not so good a job. Very bland, blah scenes with Logan. Just a lot of giggling. Frankly - I don't mind if there is someone else in Logan's life but I feel this actress was just cast for her youthful appearance. Not really feeling it in her scenes. I didn't like her appearance in Medium as a young Alyson either. I feel confident Logan is setting Dr. Griffiths up. I do feel we are supposed to think he likes her - how could you not like her? She's like a puppy. I do not HOWEVER blame Logan for this at all because if I were facing conviction for murder - and this was the only way I could get a lying witness to recant his testimony - I would do it too. Sure - she may end up getting her feelings hurt but prison versus hurt feelings and I'm going with the hurt feelings. I hate the idea of a Weevil/Veronica hookup. First - there goes another friend (sort of) of Logans. And Veronica isn't Joey on Dawson's Creek - everybody doesn't have to love her. Can't she just have friends? I like Weevil as a friend.

**nods** I love when we are reminded of just how good Keith really is. Sooooo young!! **nods** Comparing the faces, you can almost always really see a difference between real high schoolers and actors playing "younger" than they really are. Heck, just watching first season Buffy eps and then season 7? Loved his stroll thru the fair with the snake, all his little moves, the way he's so cock-of-the-walk and intimidating and then . . . bam - there's the cops and the principal and he's soooooo clueless. ;D The real Dick just keeps poking out.OK, that's much more Wednesday than it sounded in my head. But I'm gonna leave it, because it's true. And funny. ;D Oooh, I hadn't thought of that! ;D ;D ;D braaaaaiiiiiiinnnns! I can't imagine why, what with all the references to shooting into a clown's mouth...and the unmasking of the escort extra appendage... **snickersmirk** Logan's line about the clown had me doing an actual spittake at home. I can't believe the level of innuendo they get away with sometimes. ;D

And Lola, I like the "Heathers" reference very much! That makes a lot of sense--there is the herd mentality of ganging up on the outsider and romanticizing the dead (like they did with Cervando). #smirk# Heathers just seemed such a good way to explain the vibe I was getting.

I got the feeling he was being a bit over the top there and he called her princess like he knew she came from a well off family, even though he "didn't know her name".

Sleep posting once again, though hopefully a little less brain-fried than last week. Make of this whatever you will.
The sound in my torrent was totally crappy at times and the picture wasn’t top quality all the time either. But, as for the episode itself... I was going to label it good at first but it turned out to be brilliant. ETA: Oh well, not Rat Saw God and Ahoy, Mateys and Wallace and Rashard Go to White Castle brilliant, but still all in all very good and enjoyable.
I liked the more positive, upbeat feeling of the episode. Despite the subject matter, I almost felt carefree after watching the ep. The way the seasonal mysteries and the mysteries of the week are intertwined, once again. No one in this show appears just for kicks. Even the American Top Model had a meaningful role.
There weren’t many things I didn’t like, and they were minor gripes anyway. Still no Keith/Veronica scenes but I forgive them.
Anyway, my poorly organized, random thoughts:
I would call (high) school a circus, a carnival, or a zoo. Oh, and a freak show.
Basically, there are these four storylines here (my version of it). The evil brother saga. Old enemies and new enemies. Believing in someone and in what they say. The blaming game and the accusations. All of them tied together, as per usual. There is a skeleton in the background in the teaser, and boy, do these people have skeletons in their closets. People old and new appear in this episode. Some people are called by their real names in this episode and some people are called by their nicknames. Some people are brown nosers and some people are princesses. I guess some people can be both. There has to be something in the real names vs. the name calling. Also, we get to hear Thumper’s real name.
There was a Girl Next Door reference. Continuity, I love you. Clash of the Tritons references and Winter Carnival combined? Both Madison and Corny? Glitter? Cheap sex jokes?
Thumper. Geez, how many people do they have in this episode?
One of these days my ship is going to come in and I will not have to deal with this nonsense… I feel for Ms. Hauser, but that totally set her up.
Weevil’s “Is it ‘our senior trip’ or ‘their senior trip’?” is a legitimate question. Is it Magic Mountain or Catalina Island?
Only the kids playing with the scissors and glue can talk?
Madison has some sort of deluded idea that she holds some power at Neptune High.
Hills, mountains and rollercoaster rides. The scenery and the actual words uttered? JB’s attempt to crush Veronica on the Kane scholarship. She has to (and has had to) climb a mountain to get it, naturally. They don’t mean just academically.
Eep. It’s Everybody’s Got a New Haircut Day.
Jackie will keep hearing from her dad’s arrest. She’s new, and she will suffer for it. Whereas Madison is Veronica’s “old nemesis”. Old and new archenemies, as they say. With pitch forks and torches. Jackie wonders if this “counts as [her] 15 minutes of fame”. I think she is going to get her 15 minutes of torture but that it will soon be forgotten. Jackie may have seemed like the most likely opponent to Veronica but now they sort of more than one thing in common. I’m still not quite sure if we are supposed to believe that Veronica’s and Jackie’s truce is a permanent one or if we are in for a big surprise later in the season (the uncomfortable kind).
Everybody’s finding themselves in some unusual company or keeping company they shouldn’t be keeping in this episode. Keith and Terrence, Veronica and Jackie. Veronica says that the carnival is a two by two thing. Many damaged, secret, even illicit relationships are also mentioned in this episode.
Dick is glad that he got Terrence to sign his ball before he blew up the bus full of his classmates. The ball is going to be so much more valuable than the napkin OJ Simpson signed for him. Celebrities getting off much more easily. Not that I think Terrence was directly involved. I am just talking about the general idea here.
Shooting into a clown’s mouth. Your future is bright, Dick. Dick is the clown of Neptune, isn’t he?.
Aww. MaCassidy! I still like them. “Snuggly with the chick from Ghost World?” Nope, you are not judgemental, Dick. Nope. Not at all. I doubt he’s ever said anything positive to his brother.
Jackie’s plan is to ruin everything? I love all the off the cuff comments in this episode. That is so high school behavior. Around Veronica and Logan’s “You had me at ice cold” and “What is your poison?” “Emotionally unavailable women” conversation and Veronica clapping her hands on the table (an acknowledgement?), I was jumping up and down like the teenage fan girl that I am. Cute! I think we deserve a real conversation between them. I have a feeling Veronica’s attitude is not going to be too upfront for a long, long time though.
Logan wants something that soothes his mood and turn his tongue blue? Hot date? And a raincheck on that.
In less than three minutes, Veronica has lost all the senior trip money. $12 000. The rich, oh how they mock you. And Logan gives her a fifty-dollar bill.
Figures that Veronica’s working while the 09ers are mostly just there (Madison is working but she didn’t do anything to actually work). Only the pep squad table is making huge profit.
Nobody comes to Veronica’s booth except her tormentors. Past and present.
JB is “So reliable!” though he finds it horrible to help his nemesis and Madison is so amazing with all she does. Ms. Hauser is totally kissing some 09er a$$. She divides people too directly into good and bad to be reliable or believable. She reached her quota of spiteful comments quite early in the episode.
The Tritons naked men run. That’s like a school policy. Or a tradition. Ah, reminds me of my high school senior year. Yeah, “It is not a carnival until somebody shows a butt cheek”. Hee. Except that here it is so cold (the last official school day being around this time of year) nobody will exactly run naked but someone always steals something or flashes someone or something. What does this have to do with the episode? Nothing.
Now, the camera focuses on that money way too much. I feel something bad is going to happen. I think I had a bad dream about Veronica working in the carnival a couple of months ago. Someone’s setting Veronica up. What does this have to do with the episode? Again, not much.
I suspect she will lose the money and it will be tied to the Kane scholarship. Why else would they have mentioned it?
This episode made me nostalgic of my high school days, I guess.
Logan is pulling the “Woo the teenage girls with dorky tactics” routine. Oh please. That is sort of adorable but I wonder where he is going with this. (He does deserve a prize for being so entertaining every week though). The boy wants some adoration, be it even from a freshman girl. Logan won her a bunny, though you most certainly will not take her to Catalina Island. I hope.
In all seriousness though… I’m going to go with a hunch and say that Logan knew exactly who Hannah was based on his expression at the end. I hope he’s not going to do something stupid.
Uncle Eli. The kinder, gentler Weevil (I mean that in a good way), and his company Ophelia. The first time I watched the episode, I felt that the Veronica accusing Weevil especially right in front of his niece was a little tacky of her. A bit out of character behavior. I still feel like it a little bit.
Terrence talks about the fact that he is Lamb’s current scapegoat while everyone still assumes that Keith still holds a grudge towards the sheriff’s department. Connections, connections.
“Plenty of people with a notorious parent turned out decent. That is no excuse around here”. That’s an interesting comment. How many times are you allowed to use the excuse?
Jackie and the screwdriver. The girl may have an addiction to prescription drugs herself and his father has a gambling problem.
I bet someone is going to see Veronica with the screwdriver and the whole assumption game and the blaming game begins again. Or not.
Wasting your time trying to prove something to these people or taking one for the team, there is the question for you. The father and daughter are accused at the same time. One because of the other, of course.
Coming clean and being upfront is the important thing. Keith and Veronica both suspect there is something the Cooke family isn’t telling.
Wallace is the man. That is all.
Are we winning the contest of who can hold hands the longest? Aww. I adore Mac.
Dick. Ah, the saga of the evil big brother. The jerk brother appears again. He has never felt anything for anyone. Why exactly is Dick so bothered by Cassidy and Mac dating? Contrasts? Jealousy?
Also, Bambigasm. Hee. There’s a nickname for ya. In the end, most actions at Neptune High, they form this ball of totally false accusations. I guess Veronica’s attitude could indicate that she’s moved on from last year. She doesn’t hold a grudge of how people treated her last year, or at least waste her energy at mulling over it over and over again. She says as much to Jackie. I like the mature attitude.
There are relationships and secrets well kept and hidden and blind blaming of more or less innocent parties, which is a prime example of why we should sometimes listen to the advice of others or “This is a prime example of why I consider the advice of some of my students” as Clemmons says. Ms. Hauser tried to blame all the usual suspects, but went a little overboard making others seem like thieves and cheats.
We end with a clip of believing in someone, believing in what other people say. All caps. Written in bold, underlined. As Keith says: “You are Terrence Cook”. It’s all about believing in the real name. As for the funny at the end, Dick is quick to suggest a quickie in his car. We see this behavior in action when his little brother has a date? Poor Dick, Madison has moved on to older men. I wonder exactly how much older.
Dick’s “Nice” to the messing around with the younger ones was actually funny. I sort of saw the next thing happening. Right. From. The. Start. Cassidy set him up. Might have organized the set up with Logan. We’ve seen scenes like this many times in other shows… but they always come up with some unusual twists. Dick’s definitely got something that will make his tongue burn.
This doesn’t have anything to do with the episode, but fandom really is silly behavior in grown men and women. Most people find being a sports fan much more socially acceptable than being a television fanatic though even if being a sports fan means being covered in old beer and mustard.
It isn’t easy being a fan.
Wow, I just keep on yapping, don’t I?

Nice thoughts there, I especially like the reference to the carnival/circus as generally representing HS life. Your mention of the "notorious parents" line, and what the rich get away with (mention of OJ Simpson) makes me wonder if Aaron Echolls might, indeed have had something to do with that bus crash. We've been talking about Woody and Terrence and Felix and Dick and the Fitzpatricks . . . but we probably shouldn't forget about ol' Aaron.

Re this last bit, I'd like to know as well. They can't be a great deal older than her; otherwise they wouldn't be capable of "longies." (I know whereof I speak)! So, I rule out people like Stuart Fuller, Woody and such.

I too, was very happy with this exchange. But watch it one more time: the clapping on the table is a "ba DUM bum" rim shot to Logan's joke. She could have also responded with "But seriously, folks..." The only thing that would have improved that scene is if Veronica had smiled a little more; I think that was Logan's intent, anyway--to flirt a little, test the waters and make her smile. But then again, Veronica joked back ("There's a fifty dollar bill?") and Logan didn't even crack a smile. And not to be too cynical, but I don't think Veroncia will *ever* be upfront with Logan. It's just not in her nature.

All of you. One of these days I will be able to form complete sentences, too. I agree. I’m glad I’m not in high school anymore. Though obviously I am too stubborn to ever leave school entirely. I see the teenage misbehavior at work every day, but maybe being the authority figure in that circus makes it that much more enjoyable (not that I always am successful in being the authority figure). Another thing: A few pages back, Karen (I think) mentioned Weevil’s green car and Veronica’s green clothes/jacket. I noticed that in that FBLA booth scene Logan is wearing argyle. Maybe it is a reference to Duncan and their friendship? The argyle shirt is also green-ish. Well, so is Mac’s car so maybe I shouldn’t be reading too much into this. Maybe it is just wardrobe recycling.
