That experiment would so not make it past any Human Subjects review. Hell, I had to fill out five pages of paperwork to do a freaking linguistics questionaire. Julia, delayed by cranky husband I put it down to Neptune being, well, Neptune. ;D

I really liked this episode. Nice mix of seriousness and humorosity. Was I the only one who was hoping the professor would scream "DOH!" when Logan streaked? Cheap joke, sure...but I'd have forgiven them. Especially since it would've been funny. ;D **nods** Rather straightforward themes, but very interesting to me. I liked the parallels/comparisons that have been mentioned by artemis and others - Veronica and Wallace, sociology experiment and newspaper story, Veronica's storyline and Keith's, etc. I like how Veronica is the one who often "learns a lesson", shows us the wrong path and what needs to be done to fix it, etc. I really like how this show doesn't make the main character someone who never makes mistakes. Totally! I sometimes think that Wallace and Logan see each other more honestly than Veronica sees either one of them.

Logan isn't raising his hand. Oooh, I noticed that too! So, Logan just being his usual "not really participating" thing, or a rather more cynical view of what humans will do than much of the rest of the class? i figured it was the latter. the expression on his face seemed intentional to me.

Wiki page link to the Zimbardo experiment that the experiment Wallace and Logan participated in last night was based on. WITH citation of it being used in the ep at the bottom. Also some useful detailed links. Summary of the experiment en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experimentZimbardo's official webpage on the experiment itself: www.prisonexp.org/

I'm also a big fan of VM's embracing the "frak." And I want that kid heading up the guards to die a painful death. Hee - yes the frak was everywhere. I thought he overplayed it. The guard/prison scenes were pretty boring to me - and they had Logan in them people. My Logan. Sad, sad, sad. There were indeed some great lines in this ep as always.

My initial reactions (copied from my LJ as there are not enough hours in the day)
VM: This week brought the darker with Veronica getting a smackdown. Parker was no longer perky and Wallace and Logan got to go all experimental. Lamb resumed the role of Sherriff you hate and again no Weevil in sight. And my reactions? I'll have to think about this some more but it wasn't OMG squeeworthy. Very little Logan and Veronica interaction and what there was - star-crossed? Sigh.
What I liked: Parker and Mac had some great scenes tonight. Tina is conveying a lot with her eyes and I like the empathy she developed. I miss Perky Parker but Julie did a lovely job with her scenes. Nitpicky note - couldn't they have found a better skullcap for her? It was really distractful. Very nice moment of empathy when Mac tells Parker to stay. I really felt that scene.
Wallace and Logan together - sort of. Lots of little things that JD always throws into scenes, the walks, the bumping, the eyes. The mean guard boy -whose name I don't know - was kind of annoying, as was Horshak (insert stereotype - whining weak boy, insert stereotype - overbearing bully boy)but we did at least get to see Logan in a mask streaking. Ahhh - I can just see the icons now. And there was some snark - loved the banter in the fast food scene.
Veronica: I liked the parellelism between Keith and Veronica's failure (but again Keith's scenes just slowed down the pace - sorry EC. Nice job with the beartrap - that was classic VM but it was a painting? And he gave all the money away? Whahah? Daughter in college needing financial aid - what am I missing here?). KB looked very cute in her floral dress and I liked all the voiceovers. (though when are we going to get the "Logan is looking really hot. In fact I'd like to lick his body starting with his arms, working my way down his chest and then ripping his jeans off and" (insert NC17 rating here)). Because that's what I would be thinking looking at my BF Logan.
I didn't really buy the drunken Vernonica act, didn't like the cutthroat newspaper gal that much and also didn't really feel all that sympathetic for the sorority mom or head gal. Not sure why, but I kind of didn't feel their pain.
So overall - kind of a meh episode for me except for the Mac and Parker moments which were moving. Last week - triumphant snarky Veronica, this week Veronica hurts others in her quest for the truth. Identity of rapist? Some new players thrown into the mix, a few new clues - is she going to summarize them for us every week? Or was that more of the Veronica for Dummies guide inserted into the episode.
It just lacked something - messages galore of course and I know our supersmart reviewers will find all sorts of things to comment about but . . . . . . I want Logan to drop that undertone of sadness that is keeping his snark from zinging, I want Veronica to open up more about Logan, I want to see some oh my God moments to make me sit back and go wow!

Hi, everyone!
I haven't read any of this episode postings yet, so I not sure how others are reacting. I haven't re-watched either episode so far and maybe when I do that will change my impressions.
Last week some thought the change in credits and themesong jarring. I'm getting used to that. However, I'm not yet sure how I like how much of this season is going. Something seems off / missing. VM lite as it were.
The whole Keith story line seems off and the acting when he returns from the desert just seemed ooc to me.
Luckily no Duncan-clone Piz this week.
But can they do something with that aerie.com? annooooying! Feels like CW is insulting my intelligence. CW is doing some scrambling after the 7th Heaven/comedies switch so maybe a review of their programing appeals is in the works. I hope so. If they want to limit the appeal of VM to teenaged girls, they aren't going to get or keep the needed ratings.
On the bright side, more great Wallace and Logan. They do interact well. And streaker Logan!!!!
Also, I lent my Season 1 and 2 dvd's to a coworker whose family (but not her) were faithful BtVS and Angel viewers, and now they are hooked on VM too. Anything to help the cause.
Will try to post more later after I've read the thread.

VM lite as it were. The whole Keith story line seems off and the acting when he returns from the desert just seemed ooc to me. I agree -- the Keith story line is very strange. I think I have Keith on a bit of a pedestal, and I expect his character to be the stabilizing force in Veronica's life. That's not been the case thus far. But, it's still very early in the season! Yes, but no Weevil or Cliff either! And for the second week in a row, half-naked Dick! Um, yeah, that sounds even dirtier than I meant it. But wasn't the scene between Dick and Veronica hilarious? I loved it when she squished his face and cooed, "Aren't you the cutest thing?" I imagine the reason she was able to do the fake retching later so convincingly was because she was thinking back on their interaction. ;D Awesome! That's great news. This ep was really exploring role-playing, and how people play roles within roles. The students were divided into playing the roles of prisoners and guards, but other roles were layered on top of that. The Prisoners conspired against the weakest of their party (the scapegoat) to make sure that if he did crack, he wouldn't give out the correct answer. And the Guards conspired against the most agressive of their party (the bully) to make sure he would unknowingly encourage a prisoner to spill the beans. Wallace and Logan's strongest qualities (their *true* roles) came out. Wallace is a team player, but will help someone in need whether it hurts his team or not. Logan is a natural leader who makes and executes plans. And more role-playing--Veronica playing the part of sorority girl wannabe who gets sloppy drunk. And really everyone in the sorority was playing a role, switching between singing a capella in virginal flowered sundress to handing out "panty droppers" to underage girls. I'll be interested to see where this goes.

I just re-watched the ending of the episode, because I wanted to see the Logan streaking scene again. What? Anyway! There's a scene where Keith comes into the kitchen and Veronica is working on her laptop, and Veronica tells him, "Knowledge is power." Then the show ends with Veronica working in a library. Yes!! I think it would be awesome if she used library resources to solve a case.

Not really familiar w/the experiment depicted in this ep. It probably wouldn't be allowed, but I appreciate it as an opportunity to comment on what's going on in the world today. I'm still reeling from the Senate's vote to condone torture (and to shield Bush and his cronies from war crimes charges). On a much happier note, I really love me some Logan! He's like methadone for this poor Spike addict.
