I love that idea of writing an essay and then sending it to the other to add an addition. I'M GAME!!!
When do you want to start? My vote is for whenever. I don't care what issue we tackle - David's suggestion about actions/motivations sounded good but if you don't want to do that one, another one is fine with me.
I think this will be interesting twist on our debates - this way we BOTH get to play a little devil's advocate. Whoo-hoo!!
Highly anticipating this next round of debates!

// Lee, I had to search PAGES of Part 21 to find the post I missed: ::191 - Diane 4/30/2003 11:49:32 AM Lee Hollins That's fine with me. We don't have to do that particular debate if you don't want to. Granted, I can't think of another topic right now but I'm sure either I will or another S'cubie could suggest another one. Hmmm...I might have just thought of one. What did you think about Season 6? Did you like it? I was thinking we could debate the merits of Season 6 - good or bad? Weak or strong? I personally loved Season 6 but I know it gets a lot of flack from viewers. They felt it was too dark, strayed too far from the other seasons, etc. I know this has probably been done to death (why does it seem I can only suggest done to death topics?). Just a suggestion, take it for whatever it's worth. It's fine if you don't want to do this one - no skin off my back. ::
I had this mental image of you post-Darth Rosenberg from that last comment.
I loved Season Six. It's a difficult season, but all the more engrossing for all of that. However, it's a big project. Not like analyzing a single aspect, character or event. Season Six arguably the most complex Buffy season of all, possibly even including this one. It is SO complex I'd like to try handling it differently from the way we've debated before.
I would like for us each to post an essay analyzing the season from any perspective we choose. Having done that, we then dissect each other's essay stating what we agree or disagree with and why--in detail. It's going to be a lot of work, but I think it will be fun.//

[XXXXX] What a wonderful idea, I can't wait to get started.
[] Not bad, but I have ideas of my own.
[] What have you been smoking?
DIANE: I'm sorry you had to search through pages to find my response - it definitely wasn't worth ALL that effort.
I agree that this topic will be a lot of work but I think it will be extremely rewarding work! I can't wait to start!!!

I can't seem to get into the new board. I was having server troubles earlier this morning, but now I can get into any webpage I want (other than secure sites I don't have a password for), except for the new board.
Could be just me. But it is annoying. Especially since that's the only place I seem to be banned from.

It's always the same -- ask the tech for help and the problem seems to magically solve itself.

Diane:
I'll email you my number so if you want to call me this weekend. I'll be in and out on Saturday but I should be at my apartment pretty much all day on Sunday.
I'm going to start my essay on Season 6 this weekend as well - work is calling my name and unfortunately, I must answer.

//I have thought, since the moment when Faith showed up on Angel and took over the hunt for Angelus, that she has the leadership qualities that Buffy lacks. I am actually quite smug now that she has taken over the leadership role for the SiT's. Faith isn't afraid to give orders. Faith asks for opinions when she isn't sure. Hmmmmm, since when is Faith the responsible one?//
I agree with you about Faith, and noted, too, that on Angel she seemed very comfortable sliding into the drivers seat in the hunt for Angelus. And she did express her weaknesses and vulnerabilities to her former watcher, Wesley, something else Buffy refuses to do. She gave Wesley the opportunity to strengthen her.
I'm not surprised that Faith is so comfortable in the leadership role, she's definitely got strength and confidence on her side, and a not-too-surprisingly clear view of the mission ahead. As for responsibility, well she's always been a loner, so she generally never felt the need for being responsible because she always felt as if she was the only one she had to answer for -- if she screwed up, well it was only her head on the chopping block. Doesn't mean she was never capable of being responsible, she just never chose to be responsible.
But she does know how to survive. Buffy is alive because her friends have always pulled her irons out of the fire; Faith has generally only had herself. Yes, there have been those who have tried to help and guide her, like Buffy and Angel, but in the end, they never protected her, she still had to take care of herself. She is very adept at surviving. And she can probably be a good choice for protecting the potentials, because she does know how to survive. She knows when to fight and when to run, possibly even better than Buffy.

Diane: Check your email.
Gotta get back to work, I'll be back in about an hour or so. You know I've gotta take breaks every hour or so, otherwise my brain will fry (that's what I tell my boss anyway!).

I couldn't disagree more on the characterizations of Buffy and Faith.
Yes, Faith has had to take care of herself, and she's a tough cookie. But HERSELF is ALL Faith has ever had to take care of. She's never had to take care of a little sister, protect a town day after day from evil, and occasionally be primarily responsible for saving the world. All this while dealing with incredible trauma and loss.
BUFFY is the one who has had to be the strong one. Yes, Buffy had friends and family, but in the end SHE had to make many tough decisions and sacrifices - go to kill The Master though she knew she would die, send Angel to hell, lure the Mayor-snake into a trap by letting it chase her, face Adam one-on-one, etc. Yes, I know she needed her friends, but the truth is, Buffy would have probably found a way, even without them.
What has Faith done that begins to compare? She just got her first merit badge, so to speak, in LA, by being instrumental in stopping Angelus. That's it.
