Interesting factlet for you, from an interview with Jane Espenson: Did you write the entire specific dialog for The Hybrid? Even the "nonsense" it speaks before Baltar plunges his hand in? Some noted that the closed captioning said "Zeus" rather than "Jupiter" during the dialog about the "Eye of Jupiter" (the title of an upcoming episode), and some readers seen annoyed that it really was Zeus that was Hera's husband, not Jupiter.
I wrote this for the Hybrid in that pre-grab moment: "Seascape portrait of the woman-child cavern of the soul under pressure-heat ratio--" which is, I think, what we hear. But there is at least one BSG writer who can generate pages of beautiful, haunting and resonant Hybrid-speak at will. He writes lots of her stuff and more power to him!
When I wrote this episode, the upcoming episode was already well along, and it was called "Eye of Zeus." So all the dialogue in my episode reflected that. It got changed to Jupiter later, and I don't know why. It's always hard to get names to legally clear. All you need is one guy named Zeus who lives in North Hollywood and Standards and Practices is all over you to change the name. (deadpan) That's probably what happened.Interesting tidbit. I wonder if that's what happened. Thanks for posting.

Eh, I think that they are more similar than they are different in a lot of ways: and I think that Kara was calling it "bending the rules" as a very special exception. I see her as being.... too proud to "tomcat around" in the way Ellen did: I also don't feel that there are that many men that would meet her standards. Um...she slept with BALTAR. <edit> Eh...brainshare with Karen! She wasn't MARRIED at the time! By which I mean that she wasn't cheating on someone at the time. And she called Baltar "Lee" anyways.

Hee! That makes it ok, then. If Baltar met her standards (married or not), it makes me wonder if the pilot who challenged her to a boxing match was 'stung' by Kara at one point. I think Kara doesn't feel worthy of Lee and keeps putting barriers in the way of their relationship. Why else would she run off an marry Sam directly after she slept with Lee?

Um...she slept with BALTAR. <edit> Eh...brainshare with Karen! She wasn't MARRIED at the time! By which I mean that she wasn't cheating on someone at the time. And she called Baltar "Lee" anyways. I pointed out the sleeping with Baltar as a "standards" marker. Granted, that was early on in the series before lots of us got the "ewww...disinfect me if he touches me!" vibe off ov Baltar. And I believe Sam when he said that Lee's not the first time Kara's cheated. Marriage is a sacrament, according to Kara, but that didn't stop her from flat-out using Sam for sex in "Unfinished Business"; why not use anybody else if it's only, as she said to Lee "bending the rules"? Also, I don't think Kara would view her cheating as "catting around" in the same way we knew Ellen did because I think their reasons for doing it (or for justifying it) were different. Kara would justify it as simply scratching an itch, even though I'd disagree with her. Ellen...I don't know what her justification would have been, but I can at least make a stab at her motives: she was clever, but bored and somewhat ignored except for sexually (the guard noticed her "the way men notice me"). Add that to being a bit broken and you get someone who uses the only thing she thinks she's got to get any sort of attention. I don't remember her ever saying anything, though, that sounded like a justifcation for "catting around" on Saul. But I could have missed it or just not remember.

Oooh, I never thought of it that way. I agree that she's putting up all kinds of barriers in the way of their relationship (and of most other deep feeling) but I assumed it was to protect herself from feeling vulnerable. Of course...feeling inferior is just another way of feeling vulnerable, so...that makes a lot of sense as well.

Awright, go and actually counter my gut feelings with, you know, intelligent and reasoned discourse and reasons. Now I have no clue as to whether or not Sam was telling the truth or not: whether Kara was sleeping with other men or not. Regarding her standards? Baltar was not just... scary creepy freaky if you didn't pay close enough attention to him at the time: and he was definitely a mover and shaker in the world of politics and the social aspect of things. What I meant by her standards is that for her to feel relaxed enough about "scratching an itch" with someone, I kinda feel she'd have to regard the man as somewhat of an equal. Y'know. That, or I'm wrong.

Oh, hell no, Kara doesn't feel worthy: when she was giving Kat hell about "conning her way into the company of good people" she was talking to herself, as much as, if not more than, to Kat. I think there are times when she thinks she's the absolute bomb, but I also think she has a lot of times when she believes all the stuff she was told as a child, that she's not worth caring about, that she never will be. One of the things I love about Kara is that she is so majestically fucked-up and yet still mostly functions: she's the queen of "fake it 'till you make it" Hopefully she'll get some more self-awareness one of these days.

So, is this episode going to piss me off? Well, Kara is doing a good job of doing that for me. She won't divorce and he won't cheat. Oy!! Those two . . . Man! Soooooo messed up. Very intriguing idea. To have him with this background of family believing in stuff and him not (the naked dancing with porn was a particularly lovely touch, I thought ;D) and then he's the one mysteriously drawn to find the temple thingy. ;D What does it say about me that my first thought was "hey, who left the lights on?"

4000 year old temple. Here comes the Cylons! Oh, I love the music/drum beat. Baltar sounds like a frog but he's looking more and more Christ-like. Six!Baltar! Athena! Boomer! Sharon! Oh, my. I wonder how soon Athena will find out about Hera. It was so fun to see them all like that, wasn't it? No wonder Baltar was having fond Galactica memories. Heeee! Loved Baltar's little squeaky protest. And the way Adama and Tigh reacted. ;D One good thing that this ep did for me was clarify how much of the Hera conspiracy Adama wasn't a part of. Maybe all that downloading is bleaching her out . . .

"Honey." Methinks Kara wants her cake and ....... her other cake. Kara wants to avoid thinking about and dealing with things and is distracting herself with frosting, that's for sure. ;D

"Honey." Methinks Kara wants her cake and ....... her other cake. The Temple of 5. Huh. Gaius and Baltar think very much alike. Ah, Children of Men. Sure to be an instant holiday classic. Sam was looking pretty good in that scene w/Kara and Lee. Not that he ever looked bad before but, dayum. I'm liking all the sweaty people. Sam was looking all kinds of good. As was Dualla. I think sweat and smoldering anger brings out the best in both of them.

Quite a revelation about Kara from Sam. - That Apollo wasn't the first. Oh, no! She's going down, and not in the fun way. I'm hoping that his "not the first" wasn't referring to her being held captive. 'Cuz that would be tacky. But I wouldn't be surprised by Starbuck having other affairs. I mean, we know she's impulsive and very physical.

The Chosen One? Buffy's showing up?! //sing-song voice//Someone's not worthyyyy---Caprica!Six. ;D **snicker** I was actually a little sad for Caprica!Six. I mean, she's really stuck by Baltar through it all (well, in a twisted Cylon-esque way) and now they're all "we love you, but bye-bye!".
