Adama is in a interesting situation. How do you convince the workers that they are in a state of war, when there isn't any fighting going on? The excuse of 'war' to keep them all working is not working. **nods** Because war can't be the permanent and sole reason for existing. Or else you might as well give up your humanity right now. Huh. Good insight and a bit what the Cylons have already figured out for themselves.

On the rewatch.....
There are a lot of close up shots of *hands*. And of Hands doing things. From feeding little Nicky - to Six touching Baltar - the young farmer almost losing his hands - Adama holding a wine glass - the young working pulling on the lever to make the conveyor belts move, etc.
Very cool bit of directing, that.

Thus we see the birth of not only the fascist societies to come, but socialism and the union movement. This is chock full of good stories today. Tyrol is a now more of a hero than Baltar of the book. Heeee! It's like History class, only with more sweaty pilot action. And Tyrol is soooo the hero! I had to quote this, Lola, because it made me laugh so much! I was really moved by this ep. The show has a tendency to get a little too preachy, and it definitely skated toward preachiness in this ep, but it was entertaining and thought-provoking, so I can give that a pass. I was really impressed by the zoom in on the Chief's baby watching Chief work with a part at the kitchen table (and how did they get the baby to appear so fascinated by that??) paralleled later with the Chief's complaint that with the current conditions, his son is slated to be a deck hand. Passing down skills from father to son is traditional, but it shouldn't be the only option. So, is Baltar lying about his family roots? He slipped easily into the cockney-type accent, so it seems possible. The devil tricks us with the truth as well as with lies. I read recently that the actor **** ******** is going to be returning to the show for the last three episodes. I was struck by how much Baltar sounded like ******** when he was using his childhood accent. I wonder if there's a connection? Pardon me if this is obvious, I have only started watching this show recently, and don't know all the backstory. (I'm using asterisks in place of the name for those who want to remain completely unspoiled. If you don't mind knowing, click here: www.imdb.com/name/nm0791968/)

Teaser
What if rough patches are all we have left?
Business as usual on the flight deck.
Mug shot of Baltar?
Seelix wanted to become a pilot. Can't because they're short handed. That'll cause resentment. They're shorthanded on pilots too.
Bird out of control. That's bad.
Crashes right into Colonial 1?

Part I If the quarters become cramped, you're always welcome in one of my beds. Did he really just say that? Contaminated tylium. Xeno Fenner. (Xeno = foreign?) Problem or whether to act like things haven't changed or if they have. Sort of wishy washy on that front. If you hear the people, you'll never fear the people. The Book? Baltar wrote a book. Like Mein Kamf? Book burning. Censorship. Ugh. Class politics. Rich colonies (Caprica, Virgon, Tauron) Poor colonies (Aerolon, Saggitaron, Gemenon) What about the rest? What he do? He pissed off the president. And apparently that's enough. Who is Baltar's lawyer? Laura can be scary when she wants to be. Is this going to turn into Quills? Guess not. That's it? What happened to it all? Child labor? Tyrol finds himself in a similar position as Helo. Trying to defend self against Roslin and Adama. Arrest everybody on the ship and then there'll be no one to run the refinery.

Part II
Tyrol actually gets Roslin to make a concessions, where Helo did not.
Public lottery. The Draft. Whole 'nother set of problems.
Case in point.
Baltar was raised on a farm from Aerolon. Or is he?
Have we noticed different accents in the fleet? Aside from Callis/Baltar's English accent.
Destruction of the 12 colonies a chance to start over or has nothing really changed?
Do you think its possible for the fleet to ever be commanded by some one whose last name is not Adama?

Part III
Cool music.
Tyrol makes his decision. Strike!
And the flight deck is with them.
Strike or Mutiny?
They shoot mutineers? Just like that? That's harsh.

Part IV
Isn't everybody locked into their job at this point?
OMG!!!!! Adama's threatening Cally?
Upping the stakes.
Tyrol caves. And he lies about it. Oy.
Roslin makes it come true anyway.
Both Tyrol and Adama demonstrated how far they are willing to go.
Seelix gets to be pilot. Aww.

Ending was a little on the sappy side, but the episode did a great job of exploring difficult issues with no clear right answer.
Unless this is not the end of these issues.
Also, Seelix will probably start to feel a little weird as she gets closer to the pilots and more distant from the deck hands, yet she has to continue working with them anyway. Could be interesting if they pursue that. I love how they give even the minor characters storylines.

Did Spring watch this episode? Cause this is one of the best ones since she started watching, I think. Really demonstrates what the show is about; if she could get into this, then she could get really into the show as a whole, I think. I'm curious to know what her opinion is.

I am sorry to hear I missed such a good one. I could not watch because I was staying with my sis, and they do not have cable.

Part IV Isn't everybody locked into their job at this point? OMG!!!!! Adama's threatening Cally? So scary!! Don't forget (and I did, at first)- Cally shot and killed the original Sharon (which makes Tyrol marrying Cally very weird indeed - as someone pointed out), and no matter that Sharon was actually a Cylon and shot Adama and almost killed him, Adama did in fact love Sharon and I think still does - and I think that he wouldn've went through with it, and so, obviously, did Tyrol.

What an absolutely fantastic ending to a very well written and well dramatized episode, there was absolutely nothing that I didnt love about this episode, I was intrigued, I was interested, I was torn on which way they would go. I have watched 5 episodes, this one was amazing to me, hardly any action but such a fantastically written episode , if I wasnt before I am so hooked now there is no turning back.. I look foward to going back and watching the first 2 seasons after this season is over, I cant wait. also interesting that there was 2 cheif and cally episodes back to back. loved the starbuck interaction at the end. I wish I would have recorded this episode. I loved it. I think you are going to love the first two seasons!! Some one the best television ever, IMO. You have to let us know what you think of each ep.
