Lukes speech, "Like a plague of boils, the race of man covered the earth." "The Master will walk among them once more." "the earth will belong to the old ones."
Now I remember Illyria is an old one, but I dont not consider the Master an old one, he is not that old, plus he is a half breed in Illyria's eyes. So my wondering is if the master got free , was he going to release the old ones? Was this his plan?
I really dont remember enough about the master to form an opinion on things. Maybe after a few more episodes.

great start to the series, obviously. Wow everyone did look so young, and that is part of what indeared me to this show, is the fact that we grew up with these kids, watched them become adults, I mean sit back and look at the things that happened to them in 7 years time. I dont mean all supernatural things either. Just life in General. Xander, Willow, Buffy, Giles, even Cordy. The Original Gang. What an amazing Journey we went on , and I love the fact that I can go on this Journey again.
I am curious exactly which episodes are the "turning" episodes, which ones in which they really "grow up." or which ones you noticed them growing up in."
I am really looking foward to this re-watch.

Maybe after a few more episodes. I think that the Master was mutating back into a more primal, more demonic, vamp. Like the ubervamps, maybe? And like Kakistos. So, yeah, he's not an old one like Illyria, not a primal demon god. But . . . if he did become a primal vamp, maybe that would have stripped away any remaining human taint? So, he wouldn't have been considered a half-breed?

Kinda like meaning he was around when the old ones were around, Or maybe the demon that originally took over the Masters body was around when the old ones walked the earth, and that demon would walk among them once more. Hmm I just found it interesting.

Welcome to the High School Hellmouth!
Buffy may not have wanted to be the slayer, but I don't think she had much of a choice, especially when it was her new friends that she had to protect from the beginning - plus, saving the world from the Master.
Loved Giles in this one.
"But you didn't hone." *snort*

Even though they re-wrote his script so much it was not even close to his intent, he didn't abandon the movie , just played off of it enough to acknowledge where she came from and went with it.

Just started re-watching this today. Unlike a lot of shows it really does hold up to the test of time.
Giles was awesome! I forgot how early on Angel showed up. He looks sooo young!

I found Season 1 hard to make it through. I became a real convert (unsurprisingly) once Spike showed up in Season 2. But I'll probably start again on these as well because I got a great price on Season 1 and 2 at Target.

James Marsters makes everything better. lol!
ITA. I liked season 1, forgot about the whole hyena episode, but it didn't really pick up until Spike entered the picture.
I like the tossaway bits in this episode that acknowledge the rather cheesy movie.

I like the tossaway bits in this episode that acknowledge the rather cheesy movie. Spike did turn up the spice-level, definitely. But yep, I liked Season 1 also, The Pack being one of my faves from that season. Really showed off Nick Brandon and gave us a clue how much wonderfulness he was going to contribute to the series. Welcome to the Hellmouth was a nice start to the series. Peaked your interest. And then when Flutie gets EATEN in The Pack, well, that's when you knew this wasn't your Father's Oldsmobile, so-to-speak.
