Oh, and another reason to love my dvr: the show Sun was watching before she went into labor? Exposé, starring our old friend Nikki. Neat!

Correct. The book was The Survivors of the Chancellor by Jules Verne. It's about a ship that's left in poor shape after a massive storm, and over the course of time the survivors start going a little crazy: one person jumps off the ship in the midst of circling sharks. This could be because the person who committed suicide by hanging himself was subsequently cannibalized by some of the remaining survivors. So yeah: it's a feel-good tale. You are a fount of fascinating information.

So the interesting connections continue after they leave the island eh? I've always thought of the interesting connections being the connections between any group of random people thrown together for a plane ride and such. Think of the last plane ride you took. Or bus ride, or whatever. Some one on board's cousin could have served your mom coffee once. How would you know? Normally, you just take the ride, and everyone goes their separate ways at the end. Even the bigger connections, like that Jack and Claire are half siblings, might not be revealed under normal circumstances. Because there's nothing triggering those revelations (unless you're really chatty like certain relatives of mine ;D ). I think that the random little things like that on the show are just playing with that idea.

Oh, I hate you. I wish I had been watching with you so I didn't get caught so blindsided by it because I wasn't noticing and stuff. Looking back, there are two early indicators that Jin's story is a flashback: his cellphone was rather outdated, and the storekeeper commented on it being the year of the Dragon—the last year of the Dragon was (according to lostpedia) 2000, with the next one occurring in 2012. So either Jin's story had to be set before the crash or Sun experienced the longest pregnancy in human history. Of course, that was the one thing I didn't go check on, as I was busy reading the summary of the Jules Verne book during the commercial breaks. I caught the "year of the dragon" but I'm really not up on my Chinese Calendar. ;D Honestly, as you can see from my stream of consciousness ramblings above, I totally missed the flashback-flashforward dichotomy of the episode even at the very end. I wonder if they did it this way as an attempt to squish things in to a shortened season.

Oooo, Doc Jensen over at EW has offered an interesting theory as to why Regina may have killed herself: remember Naomi's bracelet, which said "N, I'll always be with you, R.G."? Perhaps Regina was R.G. 'Cause if you add Naomi's death to whatever it is about the area that's causing folks to have a particularly intense case of cabin fever, it becomes rather unsurprising (though no less sad) that Regina might opt to shuffle off this mortal coil. Hmm.

And, the weirdness just keeps on coming. Talk about your WTFOMGBBQPOLARBEAR scenes. . .. Seriously, don't you mean WTFOMGBBQPANDABEAR We've had polar bears, teddy bears and now panda bears. Lost is getting beary, beary interesting. leftylady The panda bear made me thing of that German movie about lovers separated by the Berlin wall and how the father in East Germany got a stuffed panda bear from the other side for his daughter, but painted it brown because they didn't have stuffed panda bears on his side. An interesting pattern was pointed out by a poster visiting the forum of a Lost podcast I listen to: as far as we know, all of the flash-forwards we've seen have aired in reverse chronological order. In other words, the first forward ep was Jack's in last year's season finale and seemed to be set at least two or three years after they leave the island. Hurley's was set before Jack went all beardy but after he'd already begun to develop a drinking problem. Kate's appeared to take place within a year or so of the crash, given that I doubt it'd take too much longer to put her on trial and Jack appeared relatively healthy. And finally, Sun's obviously takes place a little over 7 months after the crash, given how far along she is in her pregnancy while they're on the island (Sayid's ep, as far as I can tell, didn't provide any significant clues that'd pin down when in their future it's taking place).
So, if this is indeed the case then perhaps by the end of the season we'll see the flash forward timeline and the present catch up with each other.

I haven't posted much in these threads since the new season started, but I would like to state right now that I am loving this season. After the way last season ended, I was prepared to be frustrated and disappointed (with Jack being one of my favorites, making him all emo!Jack and pathetic and drunk and having a breakdown kinda bummed me out, to say the least ). But so far, I have been a very happy Lost fan.
