Can I just point out that batshit-crazy Jeff Sessions was himself once rejected by this exact committee for a position on the Federal bench because of ACTUAL racist statements he's made? I assume he's who Anne meant on the other thread, but I could be wrong. At any rate, he's an asshole, and frankly, when someone's going to this level of mental strain to paint someone as a racist, it says more about HIM than it does about HER. *sigh* Yeah, to say he's a racist jackass is really kind of an insult to racist jackasses. He makes me cringe every time I see him on the news. It scares the crap out of me that he's got power around here. Even Rush Limbaugh skewered him for his antics, saying they were racist and over-the-top. To paraphrase Xander, when RUSH is calling you over-the-top . . . be scared!!

My own congressman, Todd Tiahrt, is up to some jaw-droppingly racist (among other things) asshattery. Arguing against allowing abortion to be included in any health care reform bill, he said: "If you think of it in human terms, there is a financial incentive that would be put in place, paid for by tax dollars, that would encourage...single parents, living below the poverty level, to have the opportunity for a free abortion. If you take that scenario and apply it to many of the great minds we have today, who would we have been deprived of? Our President grew up in those similar circumstances. If that financial incentive was in place, is it possible that his mother might have taken advantage of it? Clarence Thomas, Supreme Court Justice, if those circumstances were in place, is it possible that we'd have been denied his great mind?"Article: www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/16/gop-rep-tiahrt-asks-wheth_n_236814.htmlOnline petition, if you'd like to say anything to him: sites.google.com/a/kansasdems.org/take-it-back-todd/

I think "asshattery" is far too polite a word for it. Notice, also, that it's African-American male fetuses in particular (feti?) he seems to be most worried about. Not to mention that Obama's parents were married; she wasn't even one of those dreaded "single mothers" that go around getting abortions all willy-nilly. Hey, I wonder if your guy has signed onto the Birther Bill yet? Idiots.

I'd already noticed, but she had to explain it to her dad. Colbert is the master of letting people sink themselves in their own sea of stupidity, isn't he? I was hoping he'd set Arianna on the birthers too, but I guess she was only there to promote her book.

Fewer than half of republicans think the President is a citizenI dug into the poll a little; I'm pretty sure that headline should read "natural-born citizen"...but, still. Holy sh*t, people. THIS is why I will never vote Republican again. This, right here. And look at the regional breakdown - for those numbers to reflect the overall poll for Republicans so strikingly, it means that half (roughly) of all Republicans live in the South, yes? They really have become a regional party.

Humans. Do we ever learn? This is a rerun of the sixteenth-eighteenth centuries- colonialism used economic means first (Dutch East India Company, for instance; Plymouth Plantation was a land-speculation company, although that gets forgotten). Imperialism by the gun and imposed foreign governments came in to protect the economic interests of investors. What, as the professor said, do they teach in these modern schools? Julia, sheesh
