I think he should be cloned and deployed to "townhall meetings" across the nation. Julia, because "What planet do you spend most of your time on" is a question more people need to be made to answer.

Oh, yes, he's wonderful beyond wonderful. He's my hero. "Trying to have a conversation with you would be like arguing with a dining room table." I heard a clip on NPR, I think, wherein someone asked Frank why he was keeping secrets from The People. Frank said he hadn't had secrets for 21 years. It's about time the Democrats started talking back to these loons.

Some things should not be dignified with a response.

Julia, it was, however, a Teabagger who was yelling "Heil Hitler" to a Jew at a townhall in Phoenix.

Can I just share how humiliating it is, as an American living abroad, to see the BBC coverage of American issues, like healthcare...and everyone being interviewed by (mostly FOX) news comes across as a complete moron? Do they not realize (the news stations) what it does to the perception of America in the world?

Do they not realize (the news stations) what it does to the perception of America in the world? *sigh* Well, I doubt the folks at Fox News care. They don't think we should care about the rest of the world's perception of us. And Rupert Murdoch - well, isn't he Australian, anyway? As for the other news networks, I fear that it's a matter of the morons being the ones who are loudest and most "newsworthy", which, anymore, means "will garner the most ratings."

I've noticed how amazingly adept the BBC is at picking out absolute idiots to interview, yes, as well as asking questions of Americans which would onlymake sense if the US had a political structure more like the UK. Julia, feeling uncharitble toward the Beebat the moment; was awakenedat 3am last night or maybe the night before by the sound of hungry infants crying in an Afgani OB ward.

I Just Can't Stand It Any More. Greer Condemns Obama's Attempt to Indoctrinate Students Pawlenty Sides With Extremists On Obama "Back-To-School" Address and that's only two of the army of loonies. I have no idea if BOUSD is going to force our poor little weak-minded children to watch this evil evil nasty Commie Socialist Fascist not-us vile thing which will try to brainwash them into staying in school and working hard (oh the horror! : ; Younger Daughter says no one's mentioned it. I finally lost my head Saturday and emailed the high school principal - to say, politely but firmly, that I was appalled at the lack of respect being shown for the leader of our nation, and that I sincerely hope they will be allowing all of the children in the district to watch and discuss President Obama's address to schoolchildren. This being the OC, bastion of "conservatives", where people walk around Walmart bashing Obama on their cellphones at the tops of their lungs, I'll be very surprised if the speech is even so much as mentioned. We're going to read the transcript tomorrow when it's posted on the White House website, because I can't figure out when on Tuesday and on what channels it's going to air. ETA: My district came through. *Fist in air, dorky happy-dance* We just got a robo-call from the district superintendent that students in grades 4-12 will be watching the President's address. President Obama to Address Students of America on Tuesday, September 8, 2009
Whenever the President of the United States addresses the people, it can be seen as a news event worthy of broadcasting into grade appropriate classrooms. We will provide the opportunity for students to view the C-SPAN broadcast of this address in our classrooms in grades four through twelve.
Should you wish to have your child not see this Presidential address at school, please send a parent-signed note to the teacher your child would have at 9:00 AM. A supervised alternate location will be provided at each site. Students not viewing the broadcast should plan on bringing reading materials or other school work to make this block of time meaningful and productive for them as well.
Sincerely,
A. J. “Skip” Roland, Ed. D. Superintendent of Schools
And kids whose parents choose to opt out have to come to school anyway, and bring schoolwork to do during the address. So there. Ha. Ha, I say. As Emily is wont to say, terrorist fist-jabs all 'round. Anne, suddenly feeling a little less depressed ETA the Second: By one of those wonderful coincidences, Kitty's 9AM class is, wait for it... US Government. How cool is that?

Ugh, Fox News is on the tv in the lounge here and I'm trying my best to ignore it. I thought I only had to do that when I visited my parents.

Or, as someone in this thread says, "sometimes even my schadenfreude gets exhausted and I need a nap." Julia, also, Anne, was that your assemblyman?

To save anyone else the trouble of asking, here ya go. By the way, Kitty was much amused by the idea of the President's speech zombifying students. Also, she said that only a couple of kids had notes opting them out, and one girl really wanted to stay and watch the address. The teacher thought it better not, because her parents wouldn't like it. Ah, the thrill of the forbidden...

Ah, the thrill of the forbidden... I was afraid of that; I myself am about a tenth of a mile into a legislative district which often doesn't even field Democratic legislative candidates in the primary. So much for representative democracy. Julia, and ick for that person's sexual bragging, ick, ick, ick.
