Hmmm. Some of the pilots having a bit of trouble just shooting down one of their own? Yep. And that was before they knew who was aboard. Ha! Stop thinking and shoot. Um. Yeah, I'd say that the government has lost control, Roslin. "If you jump, you'll never see them [rest of final 4] again." "I care too much about this ship to let it be overrun by rats." Ouch. Yeah. Um, Gaeta, he's not gonna tell the President to come back. You're the Admiral now. Face the consequences and responsibilities of mounting a mutiny, Gaeta. If you say you are in charge, then you need to be in charge. Oh, nice effects with the flight deck action there. The mutineers? Doesn't help their cause that a lot of them are, frankly, creepy jerks. "I know you want to do the right thing." "I'm sorry, I was under the impression that you did too." Gaeta, Gaeta, Gaeta. The rest of your gang? Not so much with the "noble cause" stuff, I'm thinking. Gaeta's whole premise has always been that people "have to answer for what they've done". But it's always what he thinks they've done. Treason, I can see how Gaeta in his warped way thinks this. But desertion? Is this all 'cuz of the Galactica leaving them on the planet? 'Cuz, um, they came back and saved all your asses. And providing a lawyer at the point of a gun? Also not helping your theme of "justice". Pimp. Ha!! "I will be serving as judge." OMG, how obvious can you get? Ha!! I love Adama when he's totally all "I don't give a fuck". He knows the whole thing is a farce. Chief is the perfect guy to be running around the ship as basically a mole. Who better than him to know all the hidey holes and sneaky paths? Oh, Zarek. Using Geata's lines? Don't you have any original thoughts that you can trust to sound sufficiently "I'm a good guy" that you can use? The quorum is not happy with things. And they are not happy with you, Zarek. Which means you'll be trying to take them out too, eh? "Mr. Vice President." Oh, snap. "Shoot them." Damn. Didn't think he'd be that . . . honest. Wonder how Gaeta is gonna like how this noble mutiny of his is turning out? [God, I love Baldwin's Hulu commercial. Heeee! ] This is a coup. That you began. This, is what happens. This is all based on lies. We had the truth on our side. The truth is told by whoever's left standing. The Cylons have decided to jump away. Which, I gotta admit, I kind of understand why. But yes, I also understand Roslin's appeal to them to try to save the rest of the final 4. (Well, she's basically putting it all on Adama, because she loves him. But still, bigger picture is something they should be thinking of.) "This was a hell of a ship once." And he let's Chief go. Yeah, Geata - you're mutiny is not as solid as you think. "Gaeta and Zarek are going to fail." I think he is right, in a way. But how many will die before they do? Ha!! Kick-ass Starbuck!! Woot! Oh. Damn. And yeah, they gotta stop underestimating Lee. Nooooooooooooo!! Not Sam!!! They gotta stop killing the pretty ones. **pouts**

"I didn't give them aid and comfort. They gave it to me." Whoa. Interesting lie. Saying that Tigh was killed. And interesting that he is lying to all of them in the room, including Gaeta. Gaeta means it when he says he's sorry. That is his first reaction, before he moves to add this to his list of crimes of Adama. Interesting. And frankly, Adama and Tigh were expecting to die back at the airlock when the President and crew took off. Awwww. I love that all Adama needed to hear was that Roslin was still alright. OMG OMG OMG!! Lawyer guy! Starbuck! Wow! Shot at two times, once by his own men. Yeah, things going from unstable to completely fucked up. Nice little mutiny. Ha! And of course he can't just leave them. Oh, Gaeta, Gaeta, Gaeta. Now you're "clear who's with us and who's trouble"? Yeah. Not so much. I think the only thing clear now is that you're losing control everywhere. So, now you plan to jump away from part of the last remnants of humanity? Hmmmmmmm. Sound like something you were accusing Adama of doing earlier, perhaps? Execution, eh? But are you really planning on killing Adama, or do you actually want to kill Zarek more? Hmmmmm? And you're already at the point of asking your closest team if they're "still with you". Should tell you something. Loved the moment with the one guy just walking away from the detail escorting Adama. Really encapsulates all that is happening, doesn't it? Chief is still crawling, crawling, crawling. And guy changes sides. I think it was the phrase "the old man" that pushed the final button. And he's just one representative of a lot of the crew, I'm betting. Evil trick, writers. Having the execution be a dream of Baltar's. Who is back in the multi-color bed of fun. And is all existencially angsty again. Baltar, you suffer so pretty. "I have to go back. They're my responsibility." Wow. Did he really just say that? Also, the line about cutting off his legs so he can't run anymore? Nice juxtaposition to Gaeta and his missing leg. Heh! Adama just spitting down on the ground in front of them as they get ready to shoot him. Tough old bird! Gotta love him. ;D Roslin giving ultimatums makes Zarek nervous. "Carry out the execution." Ha! Not so much! Oh. How lovely. I was wrong about a moment summing up how things are. This brief scene with the tormented lieutenant? This sums up how things are now!! Oooooh. Telling Laura what he claims / thinks has happened? Not. A. Good. Idea. But Zarek was never one to be able to back away from a bad idea. Surrender? No. Not now. Not even. Now I want to see her take down Zarek with her bare teeth. ;D ;D ;D Gaeta's got it down. "So, now we have a military leader and a president all in one." Oh, my. Even on the bridge they don't have enough people on their side? Holding a gun on the person they need to activate a jump? That is not a good sign for you, Gaeta. Not. Good. "There's been enough killing. We're leaving them behind. Unless you object?" Chief is gonna make it so they can't jump, isn't he? Heeeeeee! And no one in the bridge crew is giving one good goddamn what Zarek "orders". Gaeta . . . are you losing it? "One day soon, there's gonna be a reckoning." Weapons hold. Which means Gaeta knows he's lost. And boy, does he hate Zarek. Now, we get the anti-mutiny. Damn, I was hoping he'd shoot Zarek before Adama took over again. And what does Chief see? Is the Galactica broken? Baltar and Gaeta, together again. Science. Thought I was really good at it. Until I met you. I'm fine with how things worked out. Hopes that people realize, eventually, who I am. Baltar knows who he is. Damn. They're breaking my heart here!!!! And now another execution. Crap. Well. That was one hell of an ep. Again.

Kara and Kee are the rats in the walls... Gaeta wants to hold a trial? Oh, christ. you poor impractical idealistic idiot. Seriously. The man had this whole thing in his head and it wasn't at all how reality is. I know! I could see how everyone was just breathless with anticipation. What was Zarek gonna decide! **nods**

Good lord! Zarek is a bad, bad, bad, bad man. *angry eyebrows* **nods** This proved him to be, frankly, even worse than I had thought.

"Blood on the Scales" indeed! Love seeing Romo. This will be interesting. Apollo, the chief and Kara are still doing covert ops. Zarek is off his nut. I think it's a matter of time before he tries to take out Gaeta, too. Because Gaeta is not going to take kindly to the massacre at all. I am convinced that this is really why Adama knew they would fail. Not because he expected to be rescued, but because he knew that partnership would go horribly awry.

Rewatching, and that last scene with Baltar and Gaeta really made me cry. Alessandro Juliani did such a fantastic job. And to think how different things would have been if Adama had given Gaeta permission to speak freely and voice all his concerns and seriously considered them.
And I love the little smile Zarek and Gaeta give to each other right before they are executed.

Bear McCreary quoted Richard Hatch about Zarek in his blog post about the episode. I'll admit, I hadn't thought of Zarek's motivations this way. I'll have to ponder this a while. “saying goodbye to Tom Zarek has been quite challenging to me as I truly love playing this character and feel that we’ve only begun to know who this guy really is. In fact, Tom Zarek is one of my most favorite characters of all time as the levels of complexity and conflict within this often misunderstood guy are mind-bending. Although I must say that I wish there had been more time in the show to develop more of Tom’s back story and give him more of a through-line in the ongoing story. But I do understand that there are many wonderful characters and actors in this series with too little time so I’m grateful to even have a small role to play in such a well-written and acted show. The joy of acting these days for me is directly connected to the quality of the character and story I’m involved in. It’s hard for me to get excited about acting in a story that has little meaning or relevance to the world, especially after working on such an intelligent, rare and extraordinary series as ‘Battlestar Galactica.’ Acting has never been about the fame or money for me, but for the spiritual journey it has put me on. I’ve grown immensely on all levels from the challenges acting has presented me and every story and character I’ve been involved in has taught me something valuable about myself and life in general. Learning to be more forgiving of myself and others’ imperfections, and learning how to love myself unconditionally has been the challenge of my life. My career in acting has certainly been the acid test of my soul.”
“To be honest I was very uncomfortable with the way my character met his end but, to some degree, it made sense considering how the story was aspected,” Richard continued. “I had always hoped that in the end we would see Tom reveal more of his humanity and that, despite his anger at the injustices he and many of his close friends had suffered at the hands of institutional power, he would finally rise above it all and embody more of the Mandella-style of revolutionary. Regardless of how lost Tom might have gotten in his own pain and distrust of society, he still cared about the people and quality of life and freedom he believed was their birth right. But having suffered for years in prison for his idealism and having crossed the humanity line more than once to survive within a very suppressive government on his planet at the time, he was no longer willing to put up with what he truly believed was an unfair, biased, arrogant and condescending, mock government on the Galactica that seemingly cared little for the democratic processes of law. And Tom, a reborn realist, realized that he could no longer live and function within such a system and finally decided to stop playing the chess game and take action. I actually think he was ready to die as life for him had just become another prison, and one he chose not to be a part of.”

Shot in the neck. How is she gonna transport him? Gaeta sticking to his guns because he's lost everything else.. He had this vision of how things were and every time reality started to intrude, he'd quickly push it away and get back to his rut. That was a nicely evil line, wasn't it? Heee! That was my reaction exactly. What a way to feed all the rumors at once. There really will be an execution. No, it'll all turn out to be a dream. And then it really all turns out to be miscommunication. I wanted to see her do it, too!! ;D

So, More Tyrol. Shit, he's in the engine room? HE's IN THE JUMP DRIVE! SO THAT"s what it looks like! So those soldiers are back under legitimate authority, now? So THAT'S the payoff for all that running Tyrol's been doing. tension, tension, tension, annnnnnnnd, Gaeta finally wakes up. And surrenders. Galen did what with that FTL drive component? And welcome back, Mom! Baltar back on the ship, taking his mininstry seriously, ministering to a prisonor. Huh. Adama is treating with a degree of respect because he surrendered before he was forced to. Heh. "And please, no religion" Oh. That was his execution meal. And it stopped hurting itching I suspect at that moment, the relief was greater than the fear. Possiby greater than any other pleasure he'd felt. Julia, but damn Zareck, anyway **nods a lot**

It's really interesting reading different reactions to the revolution plotline. I've read everything from "Adama and Roslin have to PAYYYYY!!!" to "OMG, Gaeta, you are such a filthy bastard." It makes me think of the show as a kind of Rorschach Test, which each of our interpretations colored by our personal values, beliefs, and real world experiences.

I didn't want Gaeta to die. They let Baltar live after being instrumental in the deaths of billions and the debacle on New Caprica, why not Gaeta? I know, I know. Mutiny. Example. Punishable by death, blah blah blah. I sooooo didn't want Gaeta to die. Why not just kill Zarek and just lock up Gaeta? I mean, Zarek did all this stuff deliberately / knew what he was doing. But Gaeta was . . . Well. Mostly I just wanted my woobie Gaeta not to die, so I guess I don't really have that good of an argument.

Hm, interesting. But if the Cylons implanted a chip in Adama's (or anyone else's) head, it presumes they are leaving the power of keeping the peace up to one single human....who will likely be labeled insane by his fellow humans if he breathes a word of what he's "seen" in the story. "No wait, let's make an alliance with the Cylons!" got Adama SUCH good results recently. The pre-series humans had as much Cylon-hate as the BSG ones. If the Cylons have idea of stopping the cycle, why not just, you know, stop the initial Cylon attack? Why go through some imaginary rigmarole? I believe someone has been arranging it so that enough real entities (human/cylon/cybrid/whatever the frak Kara is) are living together, struggling together to survive against each other/themselves and also ask: "Who are we? Who are you?" and that part of the arranging is that some of them actually have enough pieces of information to actually answer those questions. Hopefully before they all kill each other again. Hmm...so I've been thinking about who would be the most logical one to have been 'chipped', and I keep coming back to Baltar because wasn't he instrumental in the Cylon's successful nuking of his home? Plus, he keeps saying that he runs away all the time, so maybe now is the time when he'll stop running and lead. He is very charismatic and people follow his lead. Still an interesting theory. I wonder if Leobon's reaction to Kara's discovery of her burned corpse will come into play soon. That might be a key to it all. She hasn't told Lee anything about that yet, has she? I am still convinced that there was something done to Baltar or put in Baltar that caused him to see Six way back in the day.

amazing pair of episodes. the timestamps showed that the beginning of the mutiny to the end of it took about twelve hours, yes? amazing how much can change in half a day... Indeed! And amazing how they made us feel the pace of that day, like we were being carried along with it.

Credits. 39,603. Down from how many? Part I Lee and Kara, still roaming free. Cylons, still locked in the brig. Gaeta and Zarek. What to do about Adama. Tyrol. Also still roaming free. They've captured Mark Shepherd. For his part in representing Baltar in the trial? Adama's charges. Commander Gaeta. Was that his rank before? Oh, they want Mark Shepherd to represent Adama in this trial. Zarek presumes to judge Adama. Now, that's not impartial at all! Zarek meeting with the Quorum. They are not entirely in line with the revolution. Which means they are going to die. Zarek reveals his true colors. It's like, right when the Quorum was obviously not behind Zarek, I thought "he's gonna get them". But I was still surprised that he just, you know, did. Just that simply, that coldly, that quickly.
