So, is anyone else watching "Faces of America" on PBS? It's a very interesting documentary series done by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. In this one, he's taking various famous people and then tracking their family history and their immigration to this country. I seem remember a few years ago watching another show he did like this, with all African Americans, if I recall correctly . . . Anyway. It's really fascinating - well, I suppose fascinating if you are interested in history. I saw part of it last night- the Kristi Yamaguchi stuff was fascinating. Julia, I'd heard about the sugar plantations from native Hawai'ian people; it was interesting to hear the Issei experience.

Oh, pretty sunset! I was going to go out at sunset tonight (about fifteen minutes ago, in fact) but got hung up juggling laundry. Also love that second take on the pine tree; it's really interesting as a photographic subject, isn't it? Julia, virtue sucks, indeed.

I'll probably get around to seeing it at some point.

Lot of striking moments in this series, I can tell.

I initially read that as "strap wenches," which sent my brain to an entirely different place... Which, combined with Spring('s) training, gives you . With baseball cap.

MATTHEW!Thank you for putting me onto strap wrenches - I bought a couple at Sears today, and managed to open a jar of beets without, for the first time ever, spattering myself. I initially read that as "strap wenches," which sent my brain to an entirely different place... Yes, that would be . . . somewhat different.

Tuesdays at 9 central. Very wide ranging documentaries. Here is the list: www.pbs.org/independentlens/guide.html

Lot of striking moments in this series, I can tell. Oh, yeah- the Queen Noor thing, and the way the Syrians were treated so very differently than all the other immigrant groups. I think she understood the implications of Orientalism and exoticization pretty well. Julia, I was too antsy to watch it all, though, and finally went 100% for Human Target.
