I'm back in internet land. Had a FABULOUS time in Wyoming. I really wish I had some of those James Bond camera glasses, cause some of the scenery when I was driving, especially going across the Laramie Plain, was just so wonderfully awesome; it was almost a spiritual experience (OK, it actually would have been, had I not been driving at the time). The Director of the Wyoming Primary Care Association took me on a tour of Cheyenne and it looks pretty certain that I will be able to shadow at the clinic there this summer. Now, I just need to figure out where I'm going to live and what I'm going to do with my cats. Got a tour of the Family Practice Residency program in Cheyenne too. Chatted a little with some of the Residents and one of them let me shadow him while he did some OMT and he let me palpate the dysfunction too. Elk Mountain was amazing as always. I took some pictures, and I'll post them when I have a chance. Had a great time talking and catching up with my mom's cousin and his wife and I am now stuffed full of my mom's cousin's wife's fabulous cooking. She even made me a carrot cake for my birthday* which I am now contractually obligated to make for my friends at DCOM. I drove through Laramie and Fort Collins on the way southward, and I'm stopping briefly here to check the internets and get some snacks for the rest of the week. I also don't think I will ever live down the fact that when she asked me about my mom's recipe, I said that my mom always got it from the store. Which -It's true! Unless I'm completely forgetting something, in which case my mom will harangue me about that forevermore. But I really don't remember her ever making a cake from scratch, much less a special recipe of hers. That sounds really exciting, Liz. Congrats!!

Belated birthday and milestone wishes to everyone. My luck continues its steady run of bad. I had an accident yesterday. Didn't seem like anything at the time, just a tiny piece of grit flew in my eye. Only it tore a speck scarcely a millimeter big just on the scar left by the LASIK surgery. I was talking to one of the Admins when I felt it hit me. I instinctively rubbed my eye and I saw it just before I dropped it. The pain has been very bad and I have to put medicine in every hour. I'm going to see a specialist tomorrow to be sure else nothing happened. So that little bit of nothing that hit my eye during a simple conversation is now turning into a big something. I can't read too much so I have little idea what's been happening. On Friday I'm flying to Florida to see my Dad. I had to cancel last year's trip and I'm going if I have to get a cane and Seeing Eye Dog, so I might not be here much until next Thursday. Bummer! Hope that the damage is minimal. Don't blame you for going ahead with the Florida plans. Hope you enjoy the visit with your dad.

Who is we, and where were you? Anne and I were conversing on the LJ site because this one wasn't loading. But apparently the problem got fixed before anybody else got on.

It's an absolutely GORGEOUS!! St. Patty's Day!! Erin go Bragh...less! (what the hell does that mean anyway?)
Allison is quite disgusted that it is colder in Nashville today than in Chicago. It will be 65 here tomorrow, but apparently also in Chicago. By the time she gets back the high will be 35! Yuck.

I'm expanding the job search. Can someone name a state? All are OK except for Wyoming, Florida, and Virginia...too sparse, too humid, and too grr, respectively. Tennessee which is: too sparse AND too humid AND too grrrr, with a topping of poor and uneducated thrown in. But Nashville has a lot of different universities and has it's pros as well.

I am not sure what too grrr means, but I'll say this about VA and TN: BEAUTIFUL. I've driven through much of both of those two states, and I rank them high on the pretty. Also on the history, especially VA.

Kind of defeats the purpose of anti-discrimination. It's too bad; U of V has a great rep.

Well, that was silly. I'm filling out my 2010 census form and wanted to confirm, when I got to #7 of the "other person" (Does this person sometimes live or stay somewhere else?) part for my kids, whether I should mark "yes" and "for child custody", so I called the help line. I asked if that's what I should mark, and explained that they stay with their dad at a different residence once or twice a week, and then was specifically told they couldn't tell me how to fill out the form, and then was told I should consider a) where they stay MOST of the time and b) where they'll be on April 1st this year. Which was an easier answer, i.e., a) with me and b) with me. Er. In case that helps anyone. Also? <edit> But I bet another call would net a different answer. <edit2> Which it did. I managed to charm a census worker "off script" into admitting that, yes, the "yes, sometimes stays elsewhere for child custody" would be the better option, as I initially thought it would be.

Well, without taking the conversation past the main board limits, I can only suggest that you can be happy living places that don't completely meet your expectations . . . even in some major ways. And you can be involved in bringing change, especially in a University community like Charlottesville. But there are definitely limits to that - I mean limits to the ability to be happy, and feel like you can be an effective force for change, in a place that doesn't live up to your desires, depending on how egregiously you believe it is missing the mark - and only you know your own limits.

I am watching a movie I Netflixed called "Once". "Charming" little movie musical set in Ireland. Very entertaining and ..... charming. We have the basic subscription and manage to get 2 movies a week and when Nick is away (like he is again this week), I'll get a movie that mostly appeals to me on Wednesday - send it back and we get another one on Saturday. What usually happens tho is that I'll get a movie that I end up realizing that Nick would have enjoyed, too. Like this one. 8 out of 10 stars on IMDB. Once Won an Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song - Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová called Falling Slowly.I highly recommend it for the S'cubies viewing pleasure.

Also? For the "2 out per week" price, you can watch 'em instantly and/or as many times as you want on your PC or a "Netflix compatible device" or some such rubbish which, in our house, amounts to Frazer's xBox 360 + his gold account hooked up to the TV.

I Know! It's a great deal. 8.99 a month - and unlimited access to the online stuff. One of these days I'm going to start on Spartacus, Blood and Sand. Only available online, tho. Which will work better than waiting for a couple of eps every few weeks.
