Finished with taxes. (Well, except for having to put KY return in the mail tomorrow) Ha! I've never put it off this late before. My dad would KILL KILL KILL me if he knew. So glad I won't have to do this anymore for a while, though of course, the next time I do do it, it will probably be a lot more complicated. Also, I wish somebody would explain to me the logic behind having to file a return when I know there that's there's nothing owed or refunded. And I had to pay turbo tax $40 to confirm it. I haven't done my taxes yet either. I can't imagine why your dad would be so upset with you - as long as you get it in, in time, what's the problem? Nothing owed, or refunded? I don't think, in all these years, that has ever happened to me. Why did you have to pay turbo tax to confirm your calcs? Believe me, the IRS will let you know if you've miscalculated, and it's not a big deal if it's not big money. They just increase or decrease your refund, or let you know you still owe xxx dollars. For whatever use it may, I use www.freetaxusa.com .

Our taxes are waiting to be signed and mailed; we had that nasty surprise of having the last small petroleum royalty check send us over into the next higher tax bracket, and owe precisely twice what we'd expected. Which would be less hideous if our medical coverage hadn't effectively tripled in price so we have essentially no surplus income. Julia, and that's with having paid a CPA so we get back the OK income tax we paid, having not set foot in the state in the taxable period.

I dad would kill me because he's a financial guru and he's impressed on me time and time again on the importance of doing things promptly, not leaving them till the last minute, being thorough, being organized etc. I've always gotten taxes done by February before and I was pretty frustrated and annoyed at myself that it took me this long to finally get to them. I used turbotax because that's what he's always used and taught me to use. And it generally works out pretty well. I don't remember the state returns being so expensive before, and I always thought that one was always complimentary. So it generally is a pretty good deal. I sent my dad that free tax usa link to see what he thinks about it.

Don't be too hard on yourself; Prioritization is important, too. If you have had more important things to do (and I suspect you have), then you've had more important things to do. Really, I admire how organized you must be to be able to do all you, and still get to your taxes before the very last minute. To me, it sounds like you are doing great! The freetaxusa thing is best if you have a simple return. If you have a lot of complications, it probably isn't for you. But I have a very straightforward return, so for me, it's a breeze. There is a small charge for me, because my income is over their minimum for absolutely free.

Sounds like a good plan, Sara. She found something to complain about virtually the entire time we were there. She griped when some folks came in with young kids because she figured they'd be noisy. She complained when they did make noise, even though they were pretty good considering their age (and the adults there always immediately made them stop). She grumbled about how her bread came apart when she was eating her BLT. She even bitched that there was too much bacon on the sandwich. WHO COMPLAINS ABOUT AN EXCESS OF BACON? I tried to maintain a steady stream of conversation to keep her complaint opportunities to a minimum, which should tell you how desperate I was, and then did my best to get Greg to do the same so I could finish eating. I'm just thankful that no one came in who was overweight or of another ethnicity—that would have had me feigning illness or setting fire to the table just to get us the hell out of there before she could open her mouth. Longest. Hour. Ever. **pets Sara** I have come to the conclusion that some folks are only happy when unhappy. And many also want to bring the rest of us along for the ride. You did the best you could, Sara!

I grabbed all my stuff and headed over to the nearby McDonald's (which has wireless), where I ate my dinner and stayed for several hours, doing my taxes. I look at it this way: If it's OK with the IRS, it's OK with me.

He's still dinking around with them. If he dinks around much more, he's going to be making a midnight run on Tax Day, because I ain't gonna. Not to mention that it looks like the Feds owe us a fair chunk of change, which would be useful. It's been a rather day anyway - Emily happened to mention last night (oh, by the way) that she's been getting one-sided headaches off and on for the last week, and she got another this morning. She's better now, but I told her to go to the clinic at the college tomorrow, and at least get her bp and other vitals checked. If they think it's advisable, I'll get her an appointment with her doctor, but Kaiser being what it is, that may take a while, like weeks. Then I discovered this afternoon that the DISH program guide hadn't updated last night; at least that's how the tech guy explained the no-info-after-6PM. So he told me to do this, and that, and when those didn't work, he told me to call DISH so they could set up a work order, and the new tech guy had me check the satellite signal and reset it, and then we were able to get the info to load, but it's still because last time that happened, we needed a new DVR. So I'll be compulsively checking for the next week or so. *Tries to breathe* I'd better go fix dinner, but let me tell you, I am right off food right now.
