Just finished having dinner and a nice visit with Michelle! She is coming to the dedication tomorrow and spending the night in a motel near where the dedication will be. MONNIE: We had a very cute waiter! And the best part - guess what his name was? Yes, that right: Misha. And let me guess--Michelle flirted shamelessly with him? The girl cannot keep her boobs hands off a cute waiter. Well, natch.

MONNIE: We had a very cute waiter! And the best part - guess what his name was? Yes, that right: Misha. **waves to Spring and Michelle** How wonderful that she was able to come to the dedication! And why am I not surprised about the waiter? Yes, it is wonderful. I wish she had been able to come earlier and I could really give her a full tour of the town. I did show her my office and she came by the house, and I showed her a little of the campus. It made her remember Onjel's memorable tour of U of M, and the whole pothole thing. Also, she claimed that her Michigan plates earned her the third degree at the hotel desk, where they asked her just what her business was in town. She was kinda put off by it, but hey, I mean, what can she expect? It still has to be a better experience than the last time she was in a motel in Ohio - the "Bates" motel in Lima. Now, that was truly strange and off-putting.

You can do it! We had that sort of day last month. Around here, it's called "Spring Clean-up Day."

Well, that's fucking weird. Some time between the time we got home from mattress shopping about 4pm, and then when we got home from grocery shopping about 6:30, someone cut down all the scotch broom that was growing on a piece of ground about thirty feet square and stacked it in the field access lane below my house. Made a terrible mess of it, too, so it'll all have to be gone over and cut flat besides getting rid of the scotchbroom plant. And nothing stinks worse than broom cut whileit's blooming. Julia, dammit. That IS wierd.

The television and the monitor might not be too bad, but the sofa is definitely going to be a job. Sorry I'm not there to help.

S'cubie vibes for the rain to hold off! Looks like it will, but I figured I might as well call in one of the Universe's most powerful forces.

Julia, dammit. That IS wierd. I suspect it was some of the neighbor kids who've taken to using our driveway to get between my road and the subdivision, saving a half-mile walk. I'd be all sympathetic, except they don't ask and they leave cigarette butts everywhere. I can't see the place they slashed from the house, which makes me even more insecure. Julia, and somebody's got to get the huge pile of broom out of the lane before the cows can be fed, and it's been raining for eight days straight, so it's going to be a wet job

Additional evidence (as if there were ever any doubt) that machines are sentient and hate us:
Rules of air conditioning: Never die on a business day. Corollary: Always die on a weekend or a holiday. Extra points for making it the beginning of a holiday weekend.
If at all possible, make it a day that is over 90 degrees.
====
Well, ha! to you: you only managed one out of two.
Fortunately it's only in the seventies outside.
But no repairmen available until Tuesday at the earliest. Also, upstairs bathroom demo starts on Thursday -- hopefully the AC will be repaired by then, EXCEPT: that is has been dying more and more frequently and we've already had the "this unit is over 20 years old and both it AND the furnace should probably just be replaced" discussion. [Did I mention the bathroom rehab?]
On the up side: Tom leaves for several days in Chicago on Friday and theoretically we could use his apartment while both bathroom and heating/air replacement (if necessary) take place here. He has: kitchen AC big screen TV with DVR queen sized bed
However, he will, of course, take his computer with him.
Well, getting entirely ahead of myself.

AC apparently works on the same rules as the pump in the well, with the proviso that if it is not 85F or above (our well is in the bottom of a funnel shaped depression so it gets hotter than the ambient temp) then it shall be raining at a rate greater than 1"per hour. Julia, like now, for instance, which is why I'm here instead of cutting flowers.

Sorry I'm not there to help. thanks for the offer the sofa turned out to be quite easy once mum took all the bits off it she thinks she can reuse. Which was all the cushions and the feets. And at one point we were going to take the cover off too, but it got a bit stuck and we thought again. after that all that was left of the thing was like a frame, and it pushed along pretty easy. And then mum tumbled it down the stairs, so that simpled that up.
