I did notice it, actually. First I though there was a big truck going by, but it lasted too long for that. Then I wondered if the hot water heater and/or the furnace were about to explode or something, but there weren't any of the scary mechanical noises I'd expect from that scenario. So finally I figured we'd had a little trembler or something—I didn't discover until I got back to my desk that it was a kind of big 'un that originated in Canada.

Very sad day today. One of my co-workers' lost her daughter after a two-year battle with cancer. Funeral today. Many bad memories re-surfaced.
Also, much (unneeded) addtional proof of just how much of an outsider I am to this office. Still.

Repeat the mantra: "It's only a bathroom." [It's only time. It's only money.] Guy is here fixing (hopefully) an area of tile that didn't look professional. Template/fabricator guy came to measure cabinets and sink so he can cut countertop: 1. Cabinets are higher than previous cabinets, ergo backsplash will run in to electrical outlets. 2. Sink is a bit too big (I asked both the decorator and contractor before I ordered it) which won't leave enough space at the back to plumb the faucets. Fortunately I have a very calm contractor AND the bid was "this is what I charge for you to have the final product as we discussed" so he will 1. move the electrical outlets up. 2. pull the just install cabinet out from the wall an inch. 3. fabricator will make countertop deeper. The good news is that there was space to do this and the tile guy hadn't installed the baseboard around the vanity yet. And they have now put new wallboard in the den ceiling where a pipe got a pinhole and leaked into the ceiling. Diane and others can probably attest that every construction project has issues like this. But too many all at once. I"m ready for this to be completed and get my house back. Probably about one more week (well, maybe the end of next week). #whine. You and Spring should get together to commiserate as well. Last I heard she had a huge hole where the wall to her basement used to be. Yikes a hooty. I haven't experienced anything like that in my home, but the library where I work is going through some remodeling right now and it is definitely an adjustment. One building is closed off completely; the power is out in different parts of the other building, and the AC is spotty at best. Today I have a giant fan pointed toward my open office doorway, in the hopes of circulating some air.

Welcome to Part 1107 of the Soulful Spike Society The good news is that we don't play favorites around here—everyone is free to make as big an idiot of themselves as they want play to their heart's content. However, this also means everyone has to play by the rules—no exceptions. And no matter how much we like you, if you post spoilers anywhere but here... well, let's just say you'll soon be begging for mercy. And not in the good way. Two last tidbits before we get started: if you want to talk about stuff that's verboten on the main board, this is the place to do so, and don't forget to take a look at the great reviews and essays on the S3 home page. That's it from me. On with the fun!
What an excellent photo. The chick being used as a perch looks so stoical and resigned!

Congratulations to U.S.A for winning the group. We were runners up (having finally remembered how to play in our match against Slovenia today). So we're both through to the next round!

Lasted about a minute but Cleveland Natural History Museum seismic readers said it was actually 3 waves coming through. Local tv news site reports it was felt as far south as Cincinnati - so would imagine that Spring got the jolt too. leftylady

But at least, Sue, your contractor is committed to the work around to completing the job as expected. I've had so many workmen who install something new and leave gaping holes from the previous fixture/outlet or whatever. leftylady

Yeah, I wish it was easier to find real geological maps online- that's all very old terraine, and I suspect from the location it was caused by crustal rebound from subsidence from the continental glacier (hey, 10,000 years is nothing when you're on the Laurentide Shield). God, I love the whole planet with all its layers ond creaking motions. Julia, I just wish people thought more closely about where they poke holes in it
