Okay, that is SO cool. I have to send it to everyone I know. I thought you'd find it as utterly cool as I did. More field trips to real science are indicated, I think. Julia, the change in color is just amazing

Very sad day today. One of my co-workers' lost her daughter after a two-year battle with cancer. Funeral today. Many bad memories re-surfaced. Also, much (unneeded) addtional proof of just how much of an outsider I am to this office. Still. Diane *needing hug*

I did notice it, actually. First I though there was a big truck going by, but it lasted too long for that. Then I wondered if the hot water heater and/or the furnace were about to explode or something, but there weren't any of the scary mechanical noises I'd expect from that scenario. So finally I figured we'd had a little trembler or something—I didn't discover until I got back to my desk that it was a kind of big 'un that originated in Canada. Yeah, I wish it was easier to find real geological maps online- that's all very old terraine, and I suspect from the location it was caused by crustal rebound from subsidence from the continental glacier (hey, 10,000 years is nothing when you're on the Laurentide Shield). God, I love the whole planet with all its layers ond creaking motions. Julia, I just wish people thought more closely about where they poke holes in it Oh yeah. wtf

Yep. We felt it very definitely up on 3rd floor - so much so, and so freaky, that me and my co-worker got under my desk, and others ran outside. Really, really strange experience. We've had little shakes before, but I never felt it like I did this one. Oh, so weird!!

Repeat the mantra: "It's only a bathroom." [It's only time. It's only money.] Guy is here fixing (hopefully) an area of tile that didn't look professional. Template/fabricator guy came to measure cabinets and sink so he can cut countertop: 1. Cabinets are higher than previous cabinets, ergo backsplash will run in to electrical outlets. 2. Sink is a bit too big (I asked both the decorator and contractor before I ordered it) which won't leave enough space at the back to plumb the faucets. Fortunately I have a very calm contractor AND the bid was "this is what I charge for you to have the final product as we discussed" so he will 1. move the electrical outlets up. 2. pull the just install cabinet out from the wall an inch. 3. fabricator will make countertop deeper. The good news is that there was space to do this and the tile guy hadn't installed the baseboard around the vanity yet. And they have now put new wallboard in the den ceiling where a pipe got a pinhole and leaked into the ceiling. Diane and others can probably attest that every construction project has issues like this. But too many all at once. I"m ready for this to be completed and get my house back. Probably about one more week (well, maybe the end of next week). #whine. You and Spring should get together to commiserate as well. Last I heard she had a huge hole where the wall to her basement used to be. Yikes a hooty. I haven't experienced anything like that in my home, but the library where I work is going through some remodeling right now and it is definitely an adjustment. One building is closed off completely; the power is out in different parts of the other building, and the AC is spotty at best. Today I have a giant fan pointed toward my open office doorway, in the hopes of circulating some air. It's better now, but still not 100% done. He expects to finish this week or early next. My first thought after that quake was "oh, no - please say my new foundation is OK!!! And it seems to be . . .

My nephew's girlfriend just got done with reroofing her house and a 100 year old walnut tree fell over on it during a windstorm on Friday and ripped a hole in it. Glad to hear you are refoundationed.

#wavey# #wavey# #wavey#
My computer forgot my password! Even though I told it the password several times! ... probably. I can never remember the right number, so it's sort of best of, erm, many... And when I asked for my forgot password it didn't arrive in my inbox and didn't arrive and didn't arrive. But now it did! So I am here again being me.
It's very weird when your computer forgets who you are.
This computer keeps on making me remember all my passwords for everywhere all over again. since the password remembering part of my brain has recently decided that file is too full and gone to junk, this is not helpful.
