This is a good week: Warehouse 13 tomorrow, Eureka Friday.
Of course Eureka is opposite Flashpoint (which I am more and more convinced is a comic-book cop story). Praise be for the dvr.
Julia, interrupted three times in this short post.

I've been busy uploading photos, while the Younger Daughter paces up and down behind me. Tough beans, kiddo. Portrait of graduated Younger Daughter is now in the S'crapbook. Poor kid, they were facing into the sun the whole time, and she had quite a headache. And the finished Fiber Collage, in my livejournal.

OMG, WTF?
I had my mail on hold for almost 30 days, because of the stuff going on around here (the mailman couldn't get to the mailbox, and I moved to a nearby town to stay with a friend).
I picked it up and in the mail is a notice from the Ohio BMV, saying I've been randomly selected to provide proof of insurance for my car, and if I don't provide it (a copy of my card, a copy of the policy sheet and a letter, on letterhead, from my agent!!) within 21 days, they will send me a "pending suspension" letter on my driver's license!!!
It was mailed to me on Jun 2. Of course.
ACCKKK!!!! There is an 800 number to call with questions, which I will do tomorrow.
Someone hand me the mask and oxygen tank, I'm about to get dive deep into bureaucratic red tape. Who knows when I'll get to come up for air.
Please, please, don't have put my license on "pending suspension" yet. Man. I can just imagine if this happens it will show up on my driving record forever! A license that was once "pending suspension."
Oh - craptastic!!
Whose brilliant idea was this random sampling thing? Insanity!!

I was catching up on my newspaper reading this morning, and came across this in a NY Times article about Robert Pattinson: "His only role of note prior to Edward Cullen was a bit part in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," as Cedric Diggory, the doomed love interest of Hermione." A. While he did appear briefly in Order, Pattinson had anything but a bit part in the movie that preceded it, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. That is, unless you consider being the other Hogwarts champion and the first person we see a resurrected Voldemort kill a bit role. B. Cedric barely interacted with Hermione in GoF and not at all in OotP, given Cedric was only seen in a flashback. Another character entirely was her supposed love interest in GoF—a guy who survived just fine, thanks. I mean, seriously? How in the hell does so much wrong even make it into the first draft of the article, much less get past both the editors and fact checkers? Especially the part where Pattinson was in the 4th Harry Potter movie as well as the 5th—I mean, even a cursory glance at IMDB would tell you that. Unfreakinbelievable.

Have I ever mentioned that you can't really trust the press? I mean, I know zilch about Pattinson or Potter. But if I was writing an article, I would check this stuff, or leave it out. As you said, a cursory check would have told the author differently.

Gotten from LJ:
In "Back to the Future," at the end, Doc Brown sets the DeLorean to head for a day 25 years in the future. The date he set it for?
7/5/2010.
*looks around for flying cars, doesn't see any*

Jury duty is like that too, but GOOD GRIEF, people go on vacation for 3 weeks at a time, coupled with the vagaries of the US Postal service plus weekends and holidays I just don't see how you can be held to that time-table. Loads of vibes that it is easily solved. Offer to fax all the info to them ASAP (once you make sure it really is the DMV). I would look up the DMV number and call it first, before calling some 800 number. Don't give our your name, address and DL number unless you are SURE of who you are talking to.

I would look up the DMV number and call it first, before calling some 800 number. Don't give our your name, address and DL number unless you are SURE of who you are talking to. Well, it looks like it is legit: www.bmv.ohio.gov/fr_random_selection.stmThe Random Selection program was implemented by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles on December 7, 1998. Individuals whose vehicles are selected at random by a computer are required to show proof of insurance for a currently registered vehicle and specific date. If they do not provide this proof, their driving and registration privileges are suspended.
Section 4509.101 (A)(1) of the Ohio Revised Code states in part, that “...no person shall operate or permit the operation of a motor vehicle in this state, unless proof of financial responsibility is maintained continuously throughout the registration period with respect to that vehicle...” The law further requires that a person be able to verify this proof of financial responsibility under a variety of circumstances, including those stated in 4509.101 (A) (3) (c), “...Whenever, in accordance with rules adopted by the registrar, the person is randomly selected by the registrar and requested to provide such verification...” The Bureau’s subsidiary office in Richfield, Ohio, administers the initial phase of this program. Individuals who have received the Notice Requiring Proof of Insurance should mail a copy of the insurance card, or a copy of the declarations page of the policy, covering the selected vehicle and date to:
Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles P.O. BOX 390 Richfield, OH 44286-0390
Please include the license plate number of the selected vehicle on all correspondence.
The Bureau cannot accept billing statements, an insurance binder, collateral insurance or a memorandum of insurance.
For further information, individuals whose vehicles have been selected may call the Richfield office at 1-866-835-6305. For other individuals with questions concerning the program, please call the Bureau’s Columbus office at (614) 752-7700.
Please note that research of programs in other states that require proof of insurance at the time of registration reveals that many individuals obtain insurance just prior to registration and then cancel that insurance immediately. The Legislature considered many options, including utilizing the Deputy Registrars, before deciding to implement the current law.
When an individual receives a Notice Requiring Proof of Insurance, the date used for proof of coverage is prior to the mailing date of the Bureau’s Notice. A current insurance card or other current forms of proof of insurance are usually acceptable, since the chosen date is one in the recent past.
The cost of including return postage with the Request for Insurance Verification letter would exceed $100,000 per year. In considering several alternatives, the Bureau decided against this option. The Bureau does provide a self-addressed envelope for the Random Selection Program and has made every effort to minimize any expense involved in responding to the request.
