You too, Spring! And everybody else! Spring, I hope you don't wear yourself out--sounds like a big group is coming, expecting a lot of food! Is everyone bringing a passing dish? I'm going to a co-worker's house for dinner. I thought it was very nice that she invited me, since I'm so new to the place. Her 91 year old mother-in-law is doing all the cooking! I can't wait to meet her, she sounds like a dynamo. I do turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, wedding soup, gravy, cranberries, and roasted red peppers. Then I assign appetizers, desserts, cold drinks, hot drinks, rolls, and a hot veggie dish. I had a 23 pound turkey! It came out really great - juicy, delicious! We ended up with 18 people. My house is not large, but it has an unsually big dining room, and all went well. Sounds like an excellent day all round! I've spent a lovely quiet day, pottering around the house and baking cookies. Tomorrow my sis and I head off for a nice dinner as our belated T-day festivities! ;D

Today I am most thankful that my daughter's ride to work (yes, the call center is open 24/7/365; people have questions about their cell phone every day!) learned to drive in Massacheusetts, and is ice-familiar. And that the current temp is the high for the past 84 hours, even if it is below freezing. And that Miko at Metafilter put a lot of time into this post exploring "Alices Restaurant" in detail. In about as much detail as you can get without watching the movie and a bunch of interviews and everything ever written about that song, although I suspect from the number of links that's what she did to put it together. Julia, also thankful that we'll have dinner around my dinner time, YAY "Twenty seven color glossy photos with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one." A piece of my life, that sentence. Happy Ritual Sacrifice with Pie, everybody! Happy Yam Sham, Diane!

It's so going to be One of Those Days.
The neighbors had a loud party going on in their backyard, which is just opposite our bedroom windows, until well after 10PM. Then they left their spotlights, which shine through our blinds, on all night. In fact, they're still on, as I discovered when I awoke at 3AM and couldn't get back to sleep.
It's going to be a long and stressful RSWP day; last year's was the Aged Ps' last public appearance together before my dad died, and on top of that, today would've been their 57th anniversary. My mom will probably be a basket case. I'm going to have to provide emotional support, and I'm already exhausted. Any spare vibes you happen to have lying around would be much appreciated.

I missed wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving yesterday, but I thought of you and hoped you were having a good one. Here's a little post-turkey day humor that gave me a chuckle this morning. Of course, my sense of humor is a little on the dark side.

Honestly, Sara - these pictures have been so great. I don't know enough about National Geographic and what they go for, but I would suggest looking at past winners to see if your pics "fit" what they seem to be looking for in nature shots. Everything is as ready as it can be for T-day. The house is shiny, the food is as prepared as it can be. I even moved the china cabinet to make more room AS I NOW HAVE 19!! (so many requests to bring a guest). The interesting thing about moving the china cabinet? Found all kinds of pennies back there. Vince believed that pennies could protect us from various evils, and everytime I move something I haven't moved for a long time, or open something I haven't opened from awhile . . . PENNIES! It's kinda like a quick "hi, Mom!" When I moved his bed upstairs awhile back, I found he had ringed the bed with pennies on the floor. Pennies, pennies - pennies from heaven. It's amazing that it's people's little quirks that make us remember our loved ones the best. Lewis came up with a saying after a particularly wicked roller coaster rider after a long day at Great America a couple of months ago. He and a couple of my in-laws had just finished a ride and before getting out of the seat, Lewis looked up - green in the face and trying to hold his lunch in - and said in a southern drawl (because everything always sounds better that way, don't cha know) - "That had some MEAN on it." So now every celebration or get together has my in-laws tacking that phrase on the end of it. Even Thanksgiving. I got a text from my 35 year old nephew yesterday - "Happy Thanksgiving! Let's get some MEAN on it!" I think it'd be a great tombstone phrase for Lew in 40 years (and he agrees - cause we are weird and talk about that kind of stuff). Cause his life certainly has had some mean on it - good and bad! ETA: Congratulations on 25,000 posts! Let's get some MEAN on the next 25,000!
