So... I'm just going to muse for a while. Feel free to comment if you're so inspired or simply pass on by if you're so inspired. Both my roommates are going to be leaving school, so I will end up being the only person living in this house soon. I don't know what's going to happen when the real estate agency finds out about this, I don't like working with them as much as I liked the landlord. Either I'm going to end up being the only one in this house until May or other random people, hopefully other students, but who knows at this point, are going to move in. This kind of confuses me . . . are you saying that you'll still be paying only 1/3rd of the rent, or will you be paying 100% of it? Because with the former, you can be sure they'll be moving other people in; with the latter, I should think they would not care . . . even prefer it, since less wear and tear on the property. Hmmmm. Well, you sound very uncertain about what you want to do, but it's a ways away, so nothing wrong with that. Contemplate, chew on it, muse, meditate . . . then decide. Maybe a combination of all these options might work for you. Everyone else goes out for fast food 3x/day? Are you talking your fellow students? Once you get out of school, it shouldn't be so much that way . . . and maybe you'll be able to choose a community where more people are "like you." One thing you could do is share your "from scratch" food - bring people stuff you've tried to make to get their opinion, and invite people over for dinner now and then, stuff like that. to marry your sustainability efforts with your socialization/relationships efforts. Again, this might work better once you are out of school and you and everyone around you has more time. For now, if your community is full of 3x/day fast-fooders, you could allow yourself some quota of "going out" meals just to be more socialable - like one or two meals a week (or a month). And then pick the most sensible stuff on the menus available.

So . . . I assume you meant to write: "This work is important just because?" I don't think it's that big a deal to leave out one word, Erin. Don't be so hard on yourself. Heh. That's how I've been spinning it. That being said: I didn't pass. So I'm thinking that neglecting to indicate what my thesis was about might have played a little role in that. Actually, they said so...not pointing out that particular deficiency in editing, but that the thesis itself struggled (and didn't succeed) indicating what it added to the literature...that the first half and second didn't mesh. Hence giving me an extended rewriting time. It was a "learn and grow" moment. That's a good way to put it, yes? Yes, a good way to put it . . . and a good way to handle it, too. Sorry to hear you didn't pass, but it sounds like you understand what the shortcomings are, so onward and upward! As always, if you want someone to beta read something of yours, you have my email addy! (But IM me so I know you've sent me something.) I'm guessing some of the other S'cubes would do the same. When you are re-reading your own stuff for the 1,000th time, you are going to miss stuff - sometimes even glaring stuff.

As for the mature handling...well, you should have seen me 9 months ago. Oy. Wailing, gnashing... And thank you! I may take you up on that, particularly the (be warned: incredibly boring) lit review. If that part is not up to snuff, the whole structure falls.

Because with the former, you can be sure they'll be moving other people in; with the latter, I should think they would not care . . . even prefer it, since less wear and tear on the property. Oh, the amount I pay for rent had better not change, cause otherwise I'll have quite a bit to say to my landlord and the real estate agent. We all signed separate leases, so it's a matter of whether my roommates pay for the rest of the year or find a way to break their leases. When my landlord hired the real estate agency to manage the house, he told me and my roommates that he wanted only students to live there, but when she talked to my roommates and I, real estate agent seemed to be less than on board with that idea. And that aside, the landlord is less than thrilled with her management of the place. Also, last I heard from him, he was planning on selling the house to them eventually, but I don't know whether that's still the case or when he's going to do that. Well, I certainly do try to strike a balance and all the other things that you suggest, but the gulf is still there. There's a difference of mindset which wouldn't have even been there couple of years ago; and I don't think it's just the fact of being students, these are my peers and I don't think they live much differently than most other people. I'm the one who's changed. And all that is added to the fact that even before, there were things about me that kind of set me apart, being geeky and bookish, being an introvert, and little things like not drinking coffee or not liking pizza. All together, it kind of makes me feel like one of the witchy women who lived in the woods in the olden days, or a member of a monastic order during the middle ages, or one of those people who lived on the islands in Brave New World, kind of "in the world, but not of it," as they would say on BTVS or ATS.

What we did with today: This was our Solstice dinner. It was the first time we've set the table completely using presents we' received for the handfasting, past solstices and Our good dishes. I think the table looks fantastic! The food was pretty yummy too.

Something finally went right today, so far anyway. This afternoon I applied for a renewal of our overnight street parking permit using the new online website thingy. I got an email that said it was pending approval and I would be notified if and when the application was approved. Considering that I've had to convince the permit department people each and every year that no, we only have room to park one car in the driveway and no, we don't have a garage, and no, there's no room on the property to build one (and by the way, why the hell don't you go harass the neighbors who have at least four cars and no effin' driveway and who take up all the spaces on the block when they throw a loud party and don't even invite the residents over for a beer), well, anyway, suffice it to say I didn't think I'd hear back for at least 24 hours. I just got the email that the permit has been renewed, I printed off the temporary permit just in case the real sticker doesn't get here in time, and I put it on the refrigerator so I can't lose it. So, something went well. Also this morning I got brave and drove over to Borders to meet with some other Robin McKinley fans, who were very nice, and I'd probably do it again should the opportunity arise. So that's two things that went well. I am now waiting for the next shoe to drop, on my head, most likely. By the way, we got 2.7" of rain from 7AM Monday to 7AM today for a grand total of 7.45" since last Thursday, and there's supposed to be a whole lot more on the way tonight through Thursday morning. So this summer Southern California had record-breaking heat, and this winter we're having record-breaking rainfall.

Also? Totally coveting that jacket. I was going to say that, but it would get me closer to my next turn-over, and since I am not being at all virtuous about getting pretties for other people, I don't want to get to my next milestorne too soon. On the other hand, I would get you that coat if I knew where to find it, or the one Ginny was wearing at Uncle Mervie's birthday party, which was of the same mode but had steel buttons and a stand-up collar. Julia, having decorated in the direction of the Christmas tree but feeling bummed for no good reason.
