I'm not looking at that; I know my weaknesses! Julia, all my fatal, fatal weaknesses, like that portable fireplace. I love, love, love that portable fireplace. Just that I have other uses for the 3K+ that it costs, and all. Stupid RL.

Drove to Ralphs for emergency cookie-baking supplies, as the flour had to be thrown out during the Mothpocalypse and we were almost out of red sugar. Then I walked across the parking lot to Cost Plus. The Daughters are baking peanut butter and sugar cookies today, from bought rolls of dough. They do the whole thing themselves, which is good because I am so not up to it, so don't look down your noses at me for using pre-made dough. Tomorrow or Friday we'll make brownies (with chocolate chips added) and gingerbread (with crystallized ginger added) from TJ's mixes. I still have to do my mom's shopping and our TJ's shopping, but that's for tomorrow when it's supposed to be not-raining. I'm beginning to wonder if my mom does any grocery shopping on her own anymore, considering how big her list is this time. Also she's not sure what she needs (Aged Mum: "Buy some lunchmeat." Me: "What kind and how much?" AM: "Oh, I don't know...") so I told her to get the exact information and tell me when she calls this afternoon, because she always says she doesn't know, and I should decide, and no matter what I do, I always guess wrong. No wonder I have a permanent tension headache. I still have all the gifts for everybody to wrap, too, and it's going to have to be on our bed or on our bedroom floor, assuming I can get Patches off the bed. Bah freakin' humbug, I say.

Yo! Allison has a place to live. In one of the complexes here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_City,_Arlington,_Virginia Pricey, BUT: subletting and she doesn't have to put her name on a lease. Roomie is a Justice Dept lawyer, just out of law school, from Florida who is excited about a "fellow southerner." Can walk to work so no transportation expenses and includes access/membership in a gym. And her 3 best friends plan on driving her out on a road trip. We think she'll take whatever can be squeezed into the back of the van, behind the 4 seats and buy really cheap mattress and springs there. Trying to move the bed got too complicated for only 6 months. Now the weather just has to cooperate. Less than 2 weeks from now! January 2-4 is the plan. My head is spinning. Carolyn comes in tonight, yay! That makes a full house.

Yay! I'll get started on that shiny new part. For the crows and magpies among us, me included. I think I'll do the Christmas one, this time. As we're coming up on it and all. You have time to chat some more, however, so don't hold off waiting.

I think I'm part crow, since I've got an unholy penchant for the shiny. And engaged in a fruitless search for a replacement shiny PVC three-quarter length coat to replace my 13-year-old one that is slowly going to pieces... And: You're very sweet. Had I gotten the Portland job, I would have come over with something yummy just for the suggestion. Ginny, by the way, is somewhat over 70; she was wearing over-the knee boots (Black, red piping, stacked wood heels) she bought in Chicago the winter of 1989 and a thousand-dollar haircut. She's like our own Jane Fonda only with better dress sense, drives a Corvette, and is the mother of a retired Navy Seal. Glamor and style are so not the same thing as mere fashion.Julia, helping fill up the part, I guess. Absolutely. I've never been a follower of fashion, both for economic reasons and because I'm built on too large a scale. When I did, I was a kid, which led to all kinds of horrors like pink sparkly legwarmers worn with my school uniform. And even with a big piece of the PVC missing in the front, I still get compliments on my jacket.

It's a pretty road, but really impractical. It's really easy to miss your exit and be forced to go all the way into DC before being able to turn around. You can turn around easily at the airport, even though it doesn't say so. There may be a few more tricks, but I don't know them for sure. Actually, driving in general is hellish around the DC area. The more she can use the Metro to get around when she needs to, the better.

Hence the road trip with 3 local friends who will then drive back here. We've offered the van but it has 107,000 miles and checkered history and makes a noise when you turn corners. She's actually going to ask her best friend if they can use M's families' Suburban for the trip. At least with 4 drivers the 11+ hours straight shouldn't be too bad.

Especially with tunes and good chat. Glad she worked out the details. Crystal City. Sounds very New Age.

I still can't be around raw flour without ceasing to breathe, so Anna is in charge of baking or at least mixing dough- tomorrow night, since tonight is the night for making hot pepper quince jam. I am utterly zapped, myself, yesterday was a bull drag, and the day before I shovelled gravel for a while. Julia, wishing it was a week from now
