Also? Totally coveting that jacket. I was going to say that, but it would get me closer to my next turn-over, and since I am not being at all virtuous about getting pretties for other people, I don't want to get to my next milestorne too soon. On the other hand, I would get you that coat if I knew where to find it, or the one Ginny was wearing at Uncle Mervie's birthday party, which was of the same mode but had steel buttons and a stand-up collar. Julia, having decorated in the direction of the Christmas tree but feeling bummed for no good reason. I think I'm part crow, since I've got an unholy penchant for the shiny. And engaged in a fruitless search for a replacement shiny PVC three-quarter length coat to replace my 13-year-old one that is slowly going to pieces... And: You're very sweet. Had I gotten the Portland job, I would have come over with something yummy just for the suggestion.

What we did with today: <snip> This was our Solstice dinner. It was the first time we've set the table completely using presents we' received for the handfasting, past solstices and Our good dishes. I think the table looks fantastic! The food was pretty yummy too. Pretty! Are there particular foods that you traditionally eat on Solstice? All I can make out are potatoes and salad and oranges (?).

Spotted this OU bumper sticker on the way to work this morning. For a minute there, I thought Spring had moved to Colorado, just to be near me.

Are you talking about that little thing on the lower left bumper that looks like it is an "OU?" Unless it is green and white, that might just be University of Oklahoma - which uses a red "OU," even though they really shouldn't, since they are not "Oklahoma University" . . . but still, if you go to www.ou.edu, you will see that they do use "OU." That kinda looks like it is red, and more likely about Oklahoma . . . though I can't tell for sure.

I think she's referring to the little bumper sticker right above the left tail light. It doesn't say anything, just says "OU."

I think the table looks fantastic! The food was pretty yummy too. Pretty! Are there particular foods that you traditionally eat on Solstice? All I can make out are potatoes and salad and oranges (?). This was our first Solstice. So we really don't have any tradtions yet. Up till this year we traditionally celebrated with our families on Christmas, but I've gotten so burned out not having a holiday of our own where I can wake up in my bed and not have to travel 4 hrs to get there. It's been 15 years since I celebrated at home. Instead we decided this year it was time to make our own traditions and we started Solstice. On the menu for last night was roast beast, rosemary garlic potatoes, Spinach cranberry walnut salad with homemade balsamic dressing, Roasted butternut squash disks (which I hope will become traditional, they look like mini sunbursts on the plate and the point of the holiday is to celebrate the returning Sun), mushroom gravy and Mead. There are oranges and acorns on the center piece.

Heh. That's how I've been spinning it. That being said: I didn't pass. So I'm thinking that neglecting to indicate what my thesis was about might have played a little role in that. Actually, they said so...not pointing out that particular deficiency in editing, but that the thesis itself struggled (and didn't succeed) indicating what it added to the literature...that the first half and second didn't mesh. Hence giving me an extended rewriting time. It was a "learn and grow" moment. That's a good way to put it, yes? Yes, a good way to put it . . . and a good way to handle it, too. Sorry to hear you didn't pass, but it sounds like you understand what the shortcomings are, so onward and upward! As always, if you want someone to beta read something of yours, you have my email addy! (But IM me so I know you've sent me something.) I'm guessing some of the other S'cubes would do the same. When you are re-reading your own stuff for the 1,000th time, you are going to miss stuff - sometimes even glaring stuff. Absolutely! What Spring said goes for me as well. I'd be happy to beta read.

I have finished all shopping, and all wrapping. ALSO - I am cold!! Winter has come early this year for these parts. Lots o' snow and ice. Second interview with Children's Services today. Have another scheduled for 1st week of January. Lots of talk about parenting today. One of these days I'm going to have to post in the admin thread about my frequent dealings with Children's Protective Services, as an appointed defense attorney and Lawyer Guardian Ad Litem. Hoo boy. There's some seriously bad shit out there. Any child would be more than lucky to have you at his/her back.

What we did with today: >snipped cuz it's making me hungry< ;D This was our Solstice dinner. It was the first time we've set the table completely using presents we' received for the handfasting, past solstices and Our good dishes. I think the table looks fantastic! The food was pretty yummy too. What a beautiful table! And, a yummy food selection, (what I can see and what you've described in another post). I think it's really neat that you and Jason have started your own Solstice tradition! That's one of the cool things about forming a life together.

Reporting from Southern California, Land of Extremes: 3.15" of rain from 7AM Tues to 7AM today, mostly overnight, and it just started up again. The big storm is supposed to come through today. Shadow has cabin fever. I have cabin fever. I may have to make up some errands, rain or no rain. I have wrapped nothing, and since The Daughters are going to bake cookies today, if anything is to be wrapped, I'll have to use either the bed or the bedroom floor. At least I'll be able to shut the door and hope nobody bursts in when I'm wrapping their gifts. There are still gifts in transit from Amazon. If they don't get here by Friday, Certain People will be getting promissory notes instead. Tough. Anne, bah humbug
