The whole world seems to be holding its breath, and the sky is the color of silver buried in a midden for a hundred years. Julia, well, at least it won't be snowWow, you do have a beautiful way with words. Daria made it all the way here, I drove us around and down to the Costa Mesa wooey shops, then back for lunch. We had our Ladies' Day, and nothing went wrong during the having of it, and there were no hysterical phone messages from my mom waiting when we got back. Amazing. Also, since the restaurant was across the shopping center from Ralphs, I bought two 5-lb boxes of tangerines for Paul's planned experimental tangerine sauce. Actually, some to eat, some to sauce. So tomorrow I can walk to Ralphs. Good on ya! It's about damn time you got your ladies' day with no mishaps, Better Half.

Beautiful but repulsive, simultaneously. We made Tom a plane flight. Which is going to mean some creative car sharing for the next few weeks and also a trip some other time to Chicago to get the car down here. On the other hand, now that Allie is heading off of to live in DC the need for a 3rd car (well, a 3rd car with heat) is less pressing and the Honda may as well stay in Chicago for now. === Allison has found 3 potential apartments with roommates in DC on Craigslist. The world is such a different place from my youth! Even better, her 3 closest friends are considering a "road trip" to drive her out there. Which would make me feel much better and let me off the hook (Jim is starting to get funny about me driving alone all over the country helping the "kids" move. I sort of like it but he worries.) Oops. What car can they take? Well, first we'll have to see if they really follow thru on it. They were proposing to put a trailer hitch on the Honda (CRV) but .... Time will tell. Hoping for no blizzards the first 2 weeks of January, that's for sure. ==== Speaking of travel, Jim and I are flying into Houston Jan 17 for a Jan 18 consult with the doctor there. Diane -- not sure if I will be able to set anything up with you since we arrive around 9 pm, see the doc the next day, then fly back out.

This? Is adorable! How to Wrap a Cat for Christmas. ;D I think it is time for me to struggle into some clothing and see if I can walk down to the store for a few necessities, maybe take some pictures if I can stand it. It's gotten up to about 3 out there - Yay! - (well, -15 wind chill) and it's probably not gonna get much better so now's the time to strike!

Saw your pics on the Scubie Photo thread - as they sing in White Christmas: snow, snow, snow, snow, snow!

Here is the "world peace" bracelet I made as a Christmas gift for my stepmom: Gorgeous! I love the structure of it - the three silver bands, the large globe, delicate peace symbols. Nice job! Danke!

Cool visual descriptive wordsmithing, Julia. The worst of the bad storm system isgoing to miss us, thanks to a warmer flow of air from your neck of the woods. Looks like freezing rain later on will be the worst of it. Lola, Onjel and Michelle will dumped on big time. Oh, man. I know Lola has already been dumped on by the snow. None here, yet, though. I'm hoping we don't actually get the 10 inches they're predicting. Is Michelle back in MI for Christmas? Hopefully, she'll still be in Colorado during this onslaught of snow. Love that description, Julia. It's very evocative of our skies. I'll be back for just 3 days, 23-26, since I don't have any vacation days saved up as of yet at my new job. I wish I could be back in the mitten a little longer, but yah, I guess I'm glad I'm missing the snow.

Lake effect snow from Lake Michigan. The snow has stopped here but Chicago is getting dumped on .... and if you turn on the Bears game you can see just how awful it is. Got to love a football game in the snow, tho.

Looks like freezing rain later on will be the worst of it. Lola, Onjel and Michelle will dumped on big time. Oh, it's a description I've had long years to perfect. We're getting the reasonable part of this system, apparently; on the other hand, the I-90 corridor is getting blizzard conditions from west of the summit almost all the way to Spokane, which is going to mess up a lot of truck delivery dependant businesses. I just figured out that Sam's girlfriend, although a year behind Anna in school, shares a Chinese zodiacal animal with her (and with me, since I was 36 when I had Anna): Dragon. I guess he's immune after spending all his life in the same house with two dragon ladies. Julia, my friend Dierdre says that the stereotypically Dragon female does much better in western society. Ha! I would think that being a Dragon nowadays is a good thing. New England I KILLING the Bears. 34 to 0 at the half.

Ooooooh! This is a very very nice pre-holiday goody. You were reading my mind, I think. Hehe....or your avatar soaked into my subconscious. They are a couple of yummy looking cats. LOGO aired The Wish - kind of a "It's a Wonderful Life" type ep and the Christmasy "Amends" this morning. Someone in their programming department is a fan.

Well, NOAA says average annual snowfall in Chicago is 38, in Minnie it's 49 and in Denver it is 60! Here are Boulder's snowfall stats. www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/boulder/bouldersnow.htmlKeep those mittens handy!

Got to love a football game in the snow, tho. Tom is at Midway. We told him not to drive and made him a flight reservation. Turns out both earlier flights were canceled and so is the one after his. Right now he is delayed 90 minutes but the explanation being giving is that the de-icing trucks in NASHVILLE are broken (runway?) so the problem is here -- where it has been snowing off and on all day for a total of maybe 2 inches -- but once that freezes on the roads tonight it will be a mess!
