I swear, they've gotten worse in every eye exam since I was 9 years old...and with the amount of time I've had to spend reading/on the 'puter, I was certain they'd take a turn for the worse. Now all I need is my degree and a job.

I just got your avatars mixed up. Easy mistake, I mean, who pays attention to avatars, anyhow? So when did you switch to that "Giles in a towel" avatar? I hadn't even noticed it till right this minute.

My new computer has desktop wallpaper. Of the TARDIS console room. And a Firefox theme. of the TARDIS outsides. I'm copying in a lot of files from teh backup drive. Soon I will double or triple copies of everything. this seemed like a good idea so I could have single copies of everything. there's room now. ETA: ... instead of double copies, Windows shut down and restarted, and told me so without telling me anything useful. lovely.

Strangely enough, my last eye exam also showed that my myopia had improved, which explained in a less terrifying way than my imaginings why I could not focus to read late in the day: sheer muscle fatigue. Julia, wishing I could pretend to have the flu today, go back to bed and watch DVDs and nap, but much needs done and I'm the one who has to do it.

I am not sure what you're describing here, becca - but I wish you the best with getting this going. You've had more than your share of computer troubles! I am still using my old computer (about 5.5 yrs old now), having given the beautiful new one to my mother-in-law. My MIL is now 83 years old, but she is probably one of the most computer savvy residents in the retirement community she lives in. She was having trouble with her internet connection going in and out (green lights on modem would go out, and access would be gone). The connection was just completely going down irregularly and intermittently, sometimes for hours. At first, she completely misunderstood this, thinking at different times that there was something wrong with her new computer, something wrong at yahoo email (her home page), just too many people in the community trying to use the internet (this was told to her by the repair guy, even though there was no "slow loading" issue, ever - there was only a "suddenly absolutely no access" issue), or that her computer needed "rest." But I was really proud of her, because after we talked things through slowly and one-by-one, she eventually really got the idea, and realized it had to be her modem, cable, or connection/wall jack. She got the guy in there again, refusing to believe her random, total lack of access was an OK or understandable phenomenen. She kept him there until he figured it out (new internet cable needed; new modem thrown in just for the heck of it). She now reports that things work perfectly. YAY! I wish I could have been there when my short, tiny little MIL, with her small voice and her walker, told the repair guy that no, it wasn't about too much internet traffic when the business offices went on line at 8 AM - and he needed to check that connection from wall to modem to computer. I love my MIL. I am going to go see her this weekend, to be with her for my son's b-day.

The improved myopia happened to me, too - the optometrist said that this was a fairly common occurence, with some forms of myopia, that had to do with aging . . . he explained it, but it was several years ago, and I don't remember what he said. All I know was that I went from "somewhat stronger prescriptions every time" to a short "steady state," to "somewhat weaker prescriptions every time," and the optometrist said it was not an unusual progression.

I had a much longer steady state period; I think it was fifteen years between the "a bit more correction every time" and "noticibly less correction needed" and the las ten months or so were veryanxiety-producing, as on bad days I could not focus on a book or computer screen at all after dinner. Julia, the timing had more to do with my ADHD meds wearing off than light levels, btw.

It will be the Vermont s'cubie ski shack! Can I come too? Or is this a restricted road trip? First I (or anyone else who has entered -- Michelle and Lola probably) have to win the "shack." Check it out here: www.hgtv.com/dream-home/index.htmlThere are 2 ways to enter (thru hgtv or thru something called "frontdoor") and you can enter every day. So so far I've put in 4 entries. You have to remember each day.

MONNIE!
Have you been to the grocery store? Apparently you are going to be iced and/or snowed in for days (and days).
