Welcome to Part 1122 of the Soulful Spike Society [/center] All of my lab tests indicate that the S3 board is made of awesome, thanks to a unique combination of smarts, humor, compassion, and goofiness…with just enough naughty thrown in to keep things interesting. As long as you play by the rules and never post spoilers anywhere but here, you'll encounter nothing but cookies, pats on the head, and, if you're very lucky, puppy piles. If you don't… well, being in the doghouse will be the least of your worries. If discussing topics not normally allowed on the main thread is what wags your tail, there's a special place to do just that hereAs always, treats abound at the S3 home page, including reviews, essays, and fanfic. So, go ahead—sit, stay, and speak to your heart's content.

Nice opener Sara!
And thank you. I am knee-deep in revision, and will be for the rest of the month and probably most of next.

I think Lola will enjoy this. So I shared the link she posted about the human library with a reference librarian here, and she agreed that it was a cool idea. She remembered that the same thing had been done in a library in Amsterdam, where one of the of human books was a prostitute. That book was checked out quite frequently, I imagine!

Random link: www.nbm.org/exhibitions-collections/The National Building Museum in D.C. Came up in conversation last night. Other than that, plans for the day: Clear desk of paperwork. Write agenda for meeting on Monday. Watch VU basketball on ESPN2 at 4 central. Take down tree and complete packing up Christmas boxes. Tuna melts on English muffins with baked french fries for dinner (Jim's request). Maybe video Skype with Allie and see her apt. Watch more of season 5 of Dr. Who. Good list.

I imagine she was checked out quite a bit even before she was a book. Isn't prostitution legal in Amsterdam? I don't think it draws quite the same attitudes/assumptions that it does here.

I haven't been to that one. Next trip, maybe.

I came upon it in a novel by Margaret Truman (Harry's grand-daughter writes murder mysteries set in D.C.) and then I think the annual "Christmas in Washington" specials might be set there. It's apparently huge -- as you would expect to exhibit architecture. Have your toured the treasury to see money get made?

When I was little and we lived near DC, my parents were really into taking James and I into the city to see all the museums and the cultural stuff and government stuff. Been back several times since then, but there's still a few things I haven't seen yet.

I have had my Saturday morning out, for the first time in more than two weeks. I went to yard sales (which were mostly baby crap and Christmas junk, but I got some pretty vintage bottles at the first one), had my coffee shop breakfast while I reread Have His Carcase and brought the other half home for Kitty's lunch (the food, not the book, which I'm still reading), picked up the thread I need for Emily's new curtains, went to Borders and got a novel I've been meaning to read ( Waking Up in the Land of Glitter by Kathy Cano-Murillo) and my free chai latte, and stopped by Cost Plus, found a tea infuser small enough to fit into my personal thermos and some interestingly colored pasta, and had a nice wander around the store. I am now carefully hoarding the last of my energy, because we're cleaning out the lumber room today, and as soon as Paul gets the boxes of ornaments out, I have to reorganize the chest of drawers full of craft supplies, to make space for Emily's new candle-making tools etc. But I got out of the house for fun, for the first time since before Christmas. Terrorist fist bump, everybody.
