My new computer has desktop wallpaper. Of the TARDIS console room. And a Firefox theme. of the TARDIS outsides. I'm copying in a lot of files from teh backup drive. Soon I will double or triple copies of everything. this seemed like a good idea so I could have single copies of everything. there's room now. ETA: ... instead of double copies, Windows shut down and restarted, and told me so without telling me anything useful. lovely. I am not sure what you're describing here, becca - but I wish you the best with getting this going. You've had more than your share of computer troubles! I am still using my old computer (about 5.5 yrs old now), having given the beautiful new one to my mother-in-law. My MIL is now 83 years old, but she is probably one of the most computer savvy residents in the retirement community she lives in. She was having trouble with her internet connection going in and out (green lights on modem would go out, and access would be gone). The connection was just completely going down irregularly and intermittently, sometimes for hours. At first, she completely misunderstood this, thinking at different times that there was something wrong with her new computer, something wrong at yahoo email (her home page), just too many people in the community trying to use the internet (this was told to her by the repair guy, even though there was no "slow loading" issue, ever - there was only a "suddenly absolutely no access" issue), or that her computer needed "rest." But I was really proud of her, because after we talked things through slowly and one-by-one, she eventually really got the idea, and realized it had to be her modem, cable, or connection/wall jack. She got the guy in there again, refusing to believe her random, total lack of access was an OK or understandable phenomenen. She kept him there until he figured it out (new internet cable needed; new modem thrown in just for the heck of it). She now reports that things work perfectly. YAY! I wish I could have been there when my short, tiny little MIL, with her small voice and her walker, told the repair guy that no, it wasn't about too much internet traffic when the business offices went on line at 8 AM - and he needed to check that connection from wall to modem to computer. I love my MIL. I am going to go see her this weekend, to be with her for my son's b-day. I love your MIL too. Cool story!

So, one of the books featuring a Queen E article is already available for pre-order on Amazon. I've posted some details in the admin thread.
That being said: It is pricey...so PLEASE don't let my posting about it make you feel like I'm trying to pressure anyone into buying it. I share this only 'cause I'm excited, not as publicity. OK?

So, I mainlined the entire 10 episode second season of Party Down yesterday. It's available to stream on Netflix, if you have that.
What an awesome, funny show! Rob Thomas has so much talent, but everything he does seems to be short-lived. Maybe that is the way to go--just *plan* on only doing a season or two of something, and the quality will be much more consistent.
It was fun seeing all the people that Thomas had used on Veronica Mars show up on Party Down. Adam Scott is the lead, who you might remember as the slimy high school teacher that Veronica originally defended when a female student accused him sleeping with her. In Party Down, Kristen Bell guest stars as his girlfriend in one ep, which is surreal in light of the roles they played on VM. And then there is Ryan Hansen, aka Dick, basically playing a not-quite-as-dickish version of Dick. And Ken Marino, who is freakin' awesome in pretty much everything he does. Jane Lynch from Glee is also on the show in one ep--I believe she was in more Season 1 eps, but it has been quite awhile since I've seen that season. Steve Guttenburg plays a version of himself in one episode, and it is one of the funniest eps of the season.
I could burble on and on, but it's kind of a 'you had to be there' thing. Just watch it!

Can I come too? Or is this a restricted road trip? First I (or anyone else who has entered -- Michelle and Lola probably) have to win the "shack." Check it out here: www.hgtv.com/dream-home/index.htmlThere are 2 ways to enter (thru hgtv or thru something called "frontdoor") and you can enter every day. So so far I've put in 4 entries. You have to remember each day. Yeah... ...and?....

I think Lola will enjoy this. So I shared the link she posted about the human library with a reference librarian here, and she agreed that it was a cool idea. She remembered that the same thing had been done in a library in Amsterdam, where one of the of human books was a prostitute. That book was checked out quite frequently, I imagine! Checked out, indeed! That's hilarious!

It will be the Vermont s'cubie ski shack! Can I come too? Or is this a restricted road trip? As soon as Lola wins that ski shack, it'll be a S'cubie haven! My sis and I are trying to win a "kitchen makeover" for our other sis. Having helped her with hosting Christmas at her house, we are well aware of her need for such a makeover. Anyhow, JIF is hosting a " use JIF in your recipe" contest, deadline January 17. So I have entered. You are allowed to enter twice - once in the sweet category, and once in the savory. I did both, though I like my sweet recipe a lot better. My savory one . . . I feel kinda guilty when I think that one of the recipe testers might actually have to try it and eat it. I made it today and ate it for lunch and haven't been hungry since. I've also been slightly nauseated ever since. These are probably signs that it will not win. But you never know what people will like, right??? I would tell you my recipes, but then I'd have to blow up the board.

Recipes made with scratchy bleach stuff would not really work out...
