Diane, SqueeMonnie, I don't even watch SPN and you made me chuckle. It looks like possibly grocery strike time again. Not going into politics here, but I won't cross picket lines unless absolutely forced to. So I'm stocking up on things I can only get at Ralphs - cat litter, because cats do not like change, especially in the commode, and their expressions of displeasure can be quite unpleasant, and my mom's special diet Vernors, which I remember having a lot of trouble finding at the non-struck market last time. I guess this weekend I'll be going around the house making a big list of other things that can't be substituted for. Also I woke up in the deepest pit of depression I've fallen into in some time, and I just know my mom will need comforting again today because she's having a sad week. And why not? As I pointed out to her, we're coming around to two years since that horrible Mothers' Day weekend when my dad was in the ER, and she's still finding people who have to be told that he's gone. So she has an excuse. Trouble is, I'm pretty much out of steam myself, and don't have much to spare for comforting other people, not that that counts for much. I'm supposed to be always helpful mindreading future-foreseeing wife/mother/daughter, and never ask for anything myself. Gah. Been feeling a bit down myself lately. 7 years since my brother passed and feeling a bit removed from my younger two boys' lives, especially the youngest, doesn't help. Plus, the dreary-ass weather. Blech. And coming on the 6th year anniversary of Patti's passing is making me all nostalgic. How can it possibly be so long? It still feels like yesterday. Julia, that's the problem with being a grown-up, all the years just run into each other

Greetings from deep in the heart of Texas. Presented my SPN paper tonight...I think Monnie would object at the fact that I didn't show more Cas pictures, but I think it went pretty well. Although please remind me not to break in new shoes on my presentation day...Awww!! . But I confess this gave me a big grin - picturing you presenting your paper while cursing yourself colorfully for your aching feet. Glad it went well.

Where are you deepinnahearta? Like somewhere near Houston, maybe? Don't wear new shoes! Good on you and much supportage on the paper presentation. San Antonio...right by the Alamo, actually. The Alamo! Check out the basement. I once tried to send Patti there for a "Spike's new girlfriend" tryout, but she refused to bite.

I don't mind you not showing many Cas pics as long as you showed a lot of nekkid Dean pics. Wow. You are very generous and flexible. FYI - I made some more comments on your Rome Report (in the old thread). I miss you! Stop in more often, Squeester.

and Best Wishes for a good pregnancy and a healthy great-grand baby. Lan sounds like she has a good attitude and has a supportive bf and family. It'll work out. I would have wished she might have gone to college and maybe grown up a little, but it's a new life, so it can't be ALL bad, right? Or maybe this is the kid that'll bring about the apocalypse. The Evil Baby of Doom. With my bloodline, who knows? Her stepfather is being a major sh*t. He's all but called her a slut and he won't let me take Charlie for the weekend. Beth advised her to not take the ration, but to simply walk away and assures me I can have Charlie next week. Families. With them who needs soap operas? So true. She may yet go to college and all that. With ambition and support, it can be done. Too bad about the step-dad. It's one thing to be honest about feeling upset about it, but to resort to nastiness and name-calling - what does that accomplish? Nothing good. I'm glad she has support from you and others.

I bet the sassy new shoes were totally worth all the pain. Popular Culture Association/Southwest/Texas PCA conference...for free. And yeah, they were worth it.

Have any of you read Kage Baker's "The Company" novels?
I happened to pick up the most recent: intriguing idea but petered out. But it is lower rated by Amazon reviewers than her earlier works.
What caught my eye was a review that compared her first novel (In the Garden of Iden) to Connie Willis. (time travel is involved).
So I've asked the library for the first 2 in the series and will give them a go.
Currently not finding much that enthralls me reading-wise.

Busy day - tomorrow am having about a dozen people over to Easter lunch. Just cold cuts and sides, but still, wanted to get the house all shiny and such. My old Hoover vacuum cleaner gave up the ghost mid-vacuuming, so I went out to Lowes and bought a new one. An Electrolux EL8505B. I really like it so far. Good suction, super easy to use, great attachments, nice design. We'll see how it holds up.

So, I was reading Metafilter and there was a post about ridiculous pricing at Amazon, and when I clicked through to the article, well: check out the first comment. The story's worth reading, but the comment was a short, sharp (but pleasant) shock. Julia, it's always nice to feel that the world is full of actual real people.

Santa Monica. Bestest Buddy. Walked around. Had lunch. Tired and achy, but happier.

We just watched Dr Who, followed by Fringe.
I am now thoroughly mindboggled. I'm going to have a glass of white zin and find something to read that won't further strain my brain, like maybe a nice quiet mystery I've read before.
