Well...getting induced on Friday morning if nothing shakes loose before then. The good: I'm dilated to four (as of yesterday; after last night's episode of painful-but-still-not-the-real-thing contractions, I'm guessing five, now), and everything else really looks like if you just wave pitocin in my direction, I'll go into labor. And, hey, Zach's NSTs and BPP indicate that he's still in there 'cause it's still a really nice place for him to hang out. I've heard all kinds of horror stories about being induced and all I can say is: Ignore them. My son was induced (two weeks late, growing too large for an easy passage and NO dialation at all!) and it was so much faster and easier than my daughter's birth. It will be different from Em's and different from anyone else's experience.

My college library, which had already renamed itself The Information Store, has declared it will now have a Book Zone. ... somewhere in my head, Rupert Giles is having words about that... and probably cleaning his glasses rather a lot. Ha! I suspect he is. Because, you know, books seem to be being relegated into the corner. Kind of a sneaky way to 1984 us all. "You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture, just get the people to stop reading them." Ray Bradbury

Woot!!! What did you think of the True Blood panels? Attendees were Kirsten Bauer van Straten, Joe Manganiello, Jim Parrack and Denis O'Hare. Filling it out was author Charlaine Harris. Harris showed up in a tacky version of Victorian widow's weeds and came across as a bit of a ditz. Parrack is kind of 'born again' in the less than complimentary way and I suspect will not remain an actor for long. Don't let Van Straten anywhere near JM. The overwhelming Tiggerness would be deadly to anyone that encountered them. Manganiello made a much better impression on me than he did six months ago. They answered some 'canned' questions and some from the audience. Nobody gave any news or spoilers of any kind *sigh*.And? Are you just going to leave that lying there?? Yes I am. YOU figure it out. AND? Are you just going to leave THAT lying there??
Okay, here goes: - I'd make my reservations much earlier in order to have my room in one of the host hotels.
- I'd arrive on Thursday and get the schedule so I'd know what was happening and where to plan my day.
- I'd go out on the town and see more of Atlanta
- Paddie would make an appearance and harrass all the nice costume-y people. Maybe with her pet demon.
Gotcha! Thanks for the scoopage.

Diane -
Thanks for the Dragoncon reports. Very interesting.
And good luck on co-habiting. Bob sounds like a great guy.

Maybe you will grow up to work at BuyMore but really be an international spy with a really hot girlfriend and Emily will be a doctor married to an Awesome guy!

God, don't mention her becoming a doctor when her grandparents are around, though. I'm telling them she's going to be an actress. You know, for fun.

The night before Margo was supposed to be induced with Andrew, she and Paul ended up having to chase cows off the BNSF mainline and fix fence... I don't suppose there's a good equivalent in your life. Julia, although maybe watching Young Frankinstein would help, or your favorite laugh fest. I hear having sex does the trick. Although I never had to try it. Chris came on his due date, Lew was 10 days early and Lee just a few days late. I just finished watching the MSNBC Republican debate. That would be enough to keep anyone from being born. reactions: HA! hahahahahahahahaack. blergh.

As I told Shan - as there is virtually no chance of me voting for any of those people, I didn't see any need to hurt my brain.

Well, I was positing Zach as the actor by comparing him to Zachery Levi (aka Chuck -- whose sister is a doc on the show)

I hear having sex does the trick. Although I never had to try it. Chris came on his due date, Lew was 10 days early and Lee just a few days late. I just finished watching the MSNBC Republican debate. That would be enough to keep anyone from being born. My midwife suggested it. I was all, "After what you just DID to me?" She admitted that sex after a vigorous membrane stripping might be a tad uncomfortable. At any rate, Dave teaches all day on Thursday, so, at this point, Friday would be more convenient. I was induced with Anna, and it closely approximated my labor with Sam: slow, apparently unproductive first stage until the waters broke and I puked and went complete in two contractions. My doc ended up running back from his clinic because he didn't have time to drive and find a parking place to attend the birth. Julia, the chickens are calling me, must get done taking pills so I can go outside.

In re the debate: Husband insisted on watching, and then he had to leave in the middle to pick up the Elder Daughter. Very, very scary. I should've changed channels, there must've been a baseball game somewhere, but I was a Good Wife and left it on MSNBC. In re Book Zones: Well, of course the books have to be segregated to keep them from contaminating everything else! Books in a cage! Sigh... I can't really compare birth experiences, as Emily was an emergency C-section because she decided to emerge feet-first (and she's been arguing with me ever since) and Katherine was a VBAC; broke my water (it felt like she punched me, but I'm sure that's not possible) and was trying to get out so fast I needed an epidural because I wasn't dilated enough and couldn't slow things down myself. But they were both healthy, and that's what matters. I ran my errands including but not confined to tending Mocha the Invisible Cat. She was probably asleep somewhere. Maybe tomorrow she'll deign to show herself. I'm going to put away laundry and make some tea, probably iced. It's 81° and climbing in the patio, but since our backyard thermometer outdoor probe has died (really, the batteries were leaking all over the inside), I can't tell how hot it is out there until I buy a new one.
