Yes, Vince was a gift and had a gift. One of his friends eulogized him briefly on his blog by calling him a "true Time Lord." Not sure exactly what he was meaning by it, but Vincent did have an enduring and positive place in the hearts of his friends. One of was a bit of a Shaman among the, and one them told me, "He had such an impact on us, especially our senses of humor. We would have been a totally different group of friends without him." Thanks to everyone for their nice words about this and sharing of their own thoughts/experiences. Girls and I went to the Ohio U football game today - the first time they had ever been to a game. It was cold and rainy, but still fun - the Bobcats won, and they put on quite a show. I wish Vince and Lew had met. I think they would've found a lot in common. Too bad we didn't make that happen. Yay for football! Glad you guys had fun. We are watching the Wisconsin/Nebraska game. WI is favored. The Huskers just got their first touchdown. Eh, the Buckeyes are having quite the re-building year, too. I kind of like these "everything is changing" years - especially if it gets our UM rivalrly hot again. Still looking forward to the OSU-Nebraska game!

I'm pretty sure there are very few things in life as good as a warm chocolate-chip cookie and a glass of ice-cold milk. One of those few things? When the warm cookie in question has a double stuff Oreo inside of it. ;D Do not tell my daughter about that cookie, OK? Just don't. I worked with three other people, two of them sort of officially half my age (actually they both turned 30 this year and I won't be 60 for another seven months, but let's not split hairs) and one of them Anna, and did extra shopping both Saturday and Sunday and yesterday I stood up to go catch the rooster I'm giving to the Biker's reformed son and nearly fell down beause my blood sugar was so low and my muscles so tired...it's a weird feeling, like getting out of a cold lake on a hot day after swimming too hard, and feeling the water run off to be replaced by non-boyant air. So today I'm not supposed to do anything eextra, only my brain refused to turn off making lists and design fixes last night and I'm even tireder now than I was before. Julia, oops.

Today The Sarah Jane Adventures started again. Usually it makes me happy but today I nearly cried. There are only three adventures this season because Lis Sladen died. It's weird the way work outlives people now. These stories nobody saw until after she was dead. New things happen after the people who made them stop. The story is good so far. I think tomorrow the story will be happy making. Sarah Jane is still alive. Is good.

It gives me a good feeling inside, not just about the amazing person your son was, but the kind of wonderful mother you are. What Erin said!

Whoa, quiet day! Mine was pretty quiet too, although I did talk to a hot guy at the cafe long enough to find out we both like bacon. So, you know, there's that.

I utterly failed to do nothing today.
As a result, I'm going to be challenged to find the energy it takes to chew dinner.
OOPS.
Julia, oh, well, so much to do, so little light.

We watched all two hours of the Warehouse 13 finale. I think my head is going to explode. Kitty did not take Jinx's death well, and I understand completely. I wasn't too thrilled either, or with Helena's, although she seemed ready to go. I must say, some of the dialog was very cheesy, though.
Also, I think Claudia has crossed a line; she took a life. There will certainly be consequences, not to mention that, if I remember rightly, she's next in line for some kind of Warehouse protector after Mrs. Fredricks, and Mrs. Fredricks is dead, it appears. Of course, so's the warehouse, at least for now. Next season should be interesting, assuming the writers are up for it.
ETA: Claudia is keeping the metronome because she's going to bring Steve back. Anybody else got Dawn trying to bring her mother back from the dead vibes? I couldn't talk about it in front of Kitty, she hasn't got that far into S5. She was distracted by old Dr Who episodes and dropped BTVS, for now at least.
I have one more question - who's the Kate Bush fan? Using a cover of "Running Up That Hill / A Deal With God" as background for that action scene was unexpected but strangely appropriate. Considering how much of the song they used, and how closely KB holds onto her song rights, I would love to have been a fly on the wall when they started negotiating...

Watched House instead. Lessee: He's been in a mental institution. He's been in jail. He's lost the love of his life twice. Does the man learn anything? ANYTHING? Maybe it's time for this series to begin winding down.

Me, I watched the repeat of Lawrence O'Donnell, the last half of the second episode of "Prohibition" and my least favorite episode of H50 so far. That's what I get for sitting down without the remote.
Says a lot about my general state of over-did-it that I woke up when Franklin came to bed ay 3am and fell back asleep, woke up when he turned the bathroom light on at 5am (with the door open, grrrrrrr) and fell back asleep, woke up when my alarm went off, shut it down and fell back asleep, woke up when Ruby wanted outside a half hour later, called Anna because it was her turn to let the dogs out and fell back asleep to dream about weasels living in the hollow apple tree at the orchard gate (terrifying prospect, that) and finally got out of bed at 9:40.
It's the "fall back asleep" parts of that which are outside my usual abilities.
Julia, freaking exhausted still.

Today I remembered where I'd put a necklace I thought I'd lost. I'd looked in all the usual places and ended up online trying to find somewhere to order it again. Today I remembered I'd bought new furniture and then shoved it in a corner when it wasn't the right size. Apparently I'd shoved everything from my convention in the new drawers first. Now I have found it again. Shiny!
... small triumphs.
Tomorrow is college. We get to study Maus. I'm kind of not looking forward to that.

You know that montage from the Firefly episode Ariel, where Simon is trying to teach everyone medicalese? That's what 3rd year is like. In fact, I think they should show that episode during rotations orientation just to give everyone an idea. Oh, and speaking of Firefly, did anyone else know that there's a model of Han Solo in carbonite in every (or nearly) every episode? Apparently it belongs to Nathan Fillion and they just decided to put in random places in the background, kind of like the rubber chicken tradition in theater. Here's some screen shots here: geekfemme.blogspot.com/2011/01/han-solos-in-firefly.htmlI've been entertaining the idea of settling down in Elk Mountain (where Bob and Sally, my mom's cousin and his wife, live) when I finally start practicing. Pros are that I know the town a little already, I already have an "in," Bob and Sally would be thrilled at the prospect, I would be more likely to see them and the rest of the Wyoming family and friends (since Elk Mountain's/Bob and Sally are kind of already a focal point). I think the town's got a lot of challenges and opportunities that are very interesting. Cons are that there could potentially come a time down the road when I could have a disagreement with Bob and Sally over some hot button town issue or another and that would put me in an awkward position. I'd still also have to look into the feasibility of making such a move, especially starting out, being able to pay off my loans, etc. Hmm.

Are you referring to the comic book and not looking forward to it because of the depressing subject matter?

We're studying it for postmodernism.

Happy Announcement to make:
Yesterday my grandson Charlie had his feeding tube removed permanently! The opening in his stomach wall is expected to take about 12 weeks to heal. The doctor believes it will close on its own, but he will be watching it and will stitch it closed if necessary.
Serious WOOTAGE here. That boy's had a tube for TEN YEARS!
