So, I dropped a petrified blowfish on my foot this morning. Now my toe is all swollen. Otherwise, good day at the conference! ouch. I went in to exercise. Must have had a drop in blood sugar or something. Came home and have done: zero, zilch, bupkis, nada all day. Watched a lot of TV, read, took at bath, got the mail and newspaper, played computer games. Well, I guess once in a while won't hurt.

Conference done!
It was fun; heard papers on politics, Stephen King, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, the Whedonverse, apocalypses, and Supernatural. Hilariously, one presenter kept showing an animated gif of a shirtless Jared Padelecki, which distracted a large section of the audience. Some papers were very thought-provoking, some I'd have loved to argue about, and one I violently disagreed with.
As for mine, I think it went well; I got a couple of questions, and think I answered pretty well. Plus coffee, friends, geekiness, and flirting. So, the usual.

So, I dropped a petrified blowfish on my foot this morning. That's not a sentence you get to say too often. This little piggy went to conference, this little piggy stayed home, this little piggy had blowfish, this little piggy had none, and this little piggy cried "wee wee wee!" all the way home.

This cracked my shit up tonight.
Although if you haven't seen the "literal" Total Eclipse of the Heart video, it might not make much sense.

So, I am enjoying reading the "Mark Watches" blog as he watches Buffy. But hoo boy, don't read the comments! Definitely not a safe place to venture! They don't seem to have any kind of "no character bashing" rule there, from what I see, and the Xander hate is ... well, at levels that are actually shocking to me. I didn't think that it was possible to shock me with something like that, but they did. And I'm even a bit suspicious that they don't really have a problem with bashing of other posters either. So, I'm confining myself to just reading his blog/article, which is actually more interesting than I was expecting. I mean, "Mark" is always full of squee and bounce and OMG about shows he's watching, (which I like to read), and it's fun to watch someone new enter the Buffyverse. But he's been getting a bit deeper into ideas and so on as he gets further into the show, and I enjoy that. I like thinky stuff, where I get to mull things around and agree with some stuff and disagree with some stuff and generally use my brain. But I'll still stick with the advice I usually reserve for places like YouTube or IMDB. Don't read the comments! In the spirit of giving out blog and tv show recommendations, I would like to recommend the pop culture podcast Extra Hot Great. The three hosts (Tara, Joe and Dave) discuss television and movies, and at times, Broadway shows. They are pretty witty and well-spoken. You can tell they actually PREPARE for each podcast, which isn't always the case in non-professional podcasts. Joe writes for TWOP and Tara is a writer for the site Vulture. Dave is Tara's husband, not sure what he does for a living, but they all have different perspectives on shows that is quite refreshing. The only downside is that Tara in particular doesn't seem to be much of a fan of Buffy, or even of Joss. (GASP! I KNOW!) I try to forgive her for that because I do like the podcast otherwise.

Lots of family travel this month. Jim is in Jackson, MI (had to leave house at 4:45 am yesterday and fly thru Baltimore to Detroit. Bleck.) But yes, I am enjoying house all to myself. Carolyn flew to DC this morning to be in another wedding. #8 maybe? She has become increasingly resentful of the "wedding-industrial complex" as she sees gobs and gobs of money spent, in this case by a friend who really can't afford it. I go to Chicago next week and Allie trips home briefly the week after. It's actually going into the 20's here in the next few days, then back up to mid-60's during the days. oh and: Vanderbilt women beat arch-rival UTn women. 93 points. Fun ..... except for the part where Pat Summit -- a true giant among women in sports -- is clearly declining rapidly due to early onset Alzheimers. Her assistant did most of the coaching but if I were a 19 year old girl on the team watching my icon fade it would freak me out. Which may explain the fact that UT has fallen out of the top ten for the first time in like 3-4 DECADES. OOOH! My home town! What was he doing in the Mitten?
