So, if I understand correctly, shows with strong female characters affect women postively but men either positively or not very much; while weak female characters affected women negatively and men...pretty much the same as the strong characters. Seriously, are women so much more affected by fictional events than men are? Diane *not sleeping*From one of the commentors: "It's true that there was one character on the show who was thoroughly domineering, selfish and toxically assertive... probably the most thoroughly despicable villain in the history of the show, and the only one who was purely, thoroughly human." My old-timers has kicked in - who was this? Is she/he referring to the mayor - but was he technically thoroughly human?

Which is to say, still no definitive date. But Allison flew out last night ti Istanbul to spend a week with her college roommate, her husband and his family who are missionaries in Turkey. A few days in Istanbul and then Allison, Danielle and Daniel head back to Amman, Jordan where he is Fulbright scholar and she is 2nd chair in the Jordan National Orchestra. I do find my children's lives to be fascinating ...... Me, too! My children's lives are fascinating in another way. Lew just did a internet podcast on the fermented juice that he's started to sell through the local healthfood store. He uses his body as a petri dish. But he's been getting a bit of a following from the tourists that come through from Chicago. I just wish he'd get his degree in science and maybe some kind of health degree so he can back up his results. On another note - Go Big Red! (Gave up on the bf, kept the team. Good luck to Big Red! Both Ohio teams (Ohio Bobcats, Ohio State Buckeyes did well today, with the Bobcats beating Penn State! Quite a celebration going on for that one.) I hope to get back to following the Buckeyes again, now that I am retired. Last year I was working and had just gotten the girls, and I was lucky I managed to follow my nose. It wasn't a great year for them, so good timing. to all.

Back from the funeral. Y'know, Geeky nerds even do death better than anyone else. The service was fairly brief, well orchestrated, tear-inducing, warm, comforting and lovely. I had intended to sit respectfully a row or two behind the family. They wouldn't hear of it and put me next to Bob in the front row. I was referred to as a "grandparent" in the programme. The service ended in the parking lot with a mass balloon release that had everyone sniffling again.
Then we all adjourned to the kids' house for food and to watch the Dr Who marathon.

Anybody watch Dr Who? Do we need a new part in the I Love Love Love section? Just finished watching, and yes, we're going to need a bigger boat new part. After I've had a bit of a think and the Younger Daughter has had her turn on the PC, that is.

Anybody watch Dr Who? Do we need a new part in the I Love Love Love section? It has it's own dedicated section. MY bad, I'm supposed to keep up. Let me create it now...

Alsok, Is anyone watching Copper? I recorded eps 1 & 2 last night while 3 will play tonight. Only seen 1 so far, but that was the best piece of drama I've seen in a long time!

We did a balloon release at Amber's memorial (my cousin's stepdaughter who died of brain cancer) and everybody hugged their living kids- some of us for the first time in years. It was the best way to celebrate her life. Julia, so hard to lose a child, and nowhere near as infrequent as it should be.

We've intended to, but the last two weeks August have has not been conducive to recreational activities. Julia, so freaking tired, I cannot express.

Did you guys know about this? The Science Channel will be airing a special called "Browncoats Unite," which will feature the Firefly Comic-Con panel. It will air on November 11. Here's a link.
