I made a bird. Congratulations, it's a wug. I gave it to Emily, since wugs are a linguistics mascot. This is a wug. (Link to Wikipedia article) Mine isn't as cute as the original, but it was a simple design, so a good way to test out the pattern and instructions. I'm going to clean up, and then I want to start planning the next one. It's going to be a Western bluebird; I think I have all the right colors of felt and thread on hand.

Just got done with the Slayage conference last night! Got to present on Cabin in the Woods AND Dollhouse, and I have to say that the people there reminded me so much of us S'cubies: supportive, unashamed to geek out over Whedonness, smart, sassy. I wish I could have taken you all with me! Very cool!!
If I do say so myself, it's hard to beat the depth of reviewing/analysis we have done here at the S3, on the shows we have tackled. I think I speak for us all when I say: We are proud of you.
I have to agree. I'd love to attend one of these conferences just to hear all the discussion.

There was a great panel that was right up the S3's alley: it was a roundtable defending "hated" characters like Dawn, Connor, and Riley.

*waves at all the lovely S'cubies*
Thank you kindly, Diane! Emily has the wug in a place of honor in her room.
Erin, I would love to have been a fly on the wall, or Invisible Girl anyway at the conference, especially at your presentations.
All the rest of you lot, hugs, congrats, good vibes, apply as needed/wanted.
I'm mid-bluebird, going to try to get a bit more done tonight.

Hello, I am still alive.
I am really really glad that I have no more children to marry off.
Julia, also, anyone want a sheep?

I don't think the cats would like it, and while it would be a help with the St Augustine jungle, I'd have to keep it from eating everything else in the backyard. Things with my mother are tangled and confusing and stressful, but it looks like a reverse mortgage might be an option after all. Which is good, because Paul and I have made no progress in our quest for a care facility for her.

I am proud and excited to announce that my granddaughter, Maddi Mays, tied for National Champion at Thespian Nationals in the costume design division. She won the artistic portion and another girl won the presentation portion. Techically, the edge goes to the presentation side but Maddi has been declared a co-National Champion!!!! Even though she's still a sophomore all of the major art and theater schools were there to see her and wow! Did they respond!. She showed off her portfolio but apparently you have to apply to try out in order for the colleges to call you back for interviews about scholarships. Maddi didn't. She was competing as a sophomore, and therefore is too young. BUT SOME OF THEM CALLED HER ANYWAY!!!! University of North Carolina seems especially interested. They looked up and called her theater teacher to learn more about her. St. Marys University actually told her she was too good for their school and to apply to only the very best!
I guess Maddi and her mom have two years worth of schools to visit and evaluate. If there's a way to be more proud of that girl I can't imagine what it could be. Her mother says it's good to see her growing more confident about her work. She tells me that Maddis is ready to go back over the next two years. She wants to win it ALL!

Definitely an achievement to be proud of. Sounds like she's got an exciting future ahead.
