Dale Edmunds' website of glimpses. I picked up this site from the author's story just posted at AllAboutSpike. Some curious, generally well-written and thoughtful vignettes, character studies. No developed stories (with plots). The author moves among many fandoms and has much more of an affinity with Riley Finn than with Spike. Several vignettes feature Lindsey; an excellent one (On Impermanence: Dennis) features Phantom Dennis and Cordelia. A startling one features Riley Finn and Draco Malfoy (of Harry Potter). Occasional hints of m/m sex but few actual scenes, mainly implications, thoughts, memories. Interesting and thoughtful. www.oggham.com/words/

I recommend the following fiction, which has just begun. Not yet slashy Angel/Spike, but it looks like it's heading that way. I like it so far, and I don't care for most slashfics.
It's at www.THE-CRYPT.NET. Look under Recent Fiction; or the writer. The title is SAD EYES NEVER LIE, and the writer is BuffyWatcher. GAIL

I want to second Gail's recommendation. In fact, I came to this thread to recommend that very fanfic! Just be forewarned about two things: (1) there are a lot of punctuation errors (some of which require you to reread some sentences and phrases to really understand what's intended), at least one spelling error (lather instead of leather, for example), way too many commas and semi-colons (and the semi-colons used incorrectly), and some errors with verbs. The initial 10-15 paragraphs are a bit overwritten, and the writer has also put in some elements that are a little sophomoric (William's real last name is Masters [?] and Spike now plays the guitar [again:?]).
That said, it's still got one of the most interesting plots I've read, and it's very nicely and subtly nuanced slash. Once you take the above caveats into effect, it's a real good read.
It's AU Angel, Season 5. It's canon until before Destiny. Then, it veers off, although Spike is now corporealized. Only the first (long) Part is up, but it's really good. And, it's subtle slash, so far.
And Gail? PM me, ok? can we talk about this story? Really3 like it!
Trolled over to BuffyWatcher's site, but didn't really like the other stories - too far AU to my taste.

Just finally read Amnesia!Spike by malaheim at AllAboutSpike. I began it at the Crypt but switched to AAS (don't ask).
I believe somebody had rec'd this very mildly slashy fic (amnesiac Spike believes he and Xander have been secret lovers, but they haven't) someplace, awhile ago, but I'd never read it until now. I found it VERY funny!

While surfing for/through other essays, I came across one by Wiseacres discussing WHY Spander: what's the attraction in smooshing these two straight guys together sexually. I found it very interesting and given the considerable amount of slashfic devoted to this pairing, I thought others might enjoy it, too. www.geocities.com/wiseacress/spander.html

And, at the same site is the interesting essay on charisma (not Ms. Carpenter, just the concept) and James Marsters. I posted the URL on the Essays thread.

This one is so far out in left field nobody will credit it, yet it's quite charming for mild S/X slash. The title is "Seeing Beyond Imperfections," by Lissa. The premise is this: 15 years beyond Chosen, Xander's eye has been restored and he's become the seer of the group. But the visions are extremely painful and disabling. Protective spells fail and Xander...well, dies. However, he's resuscitated and given stronger magickal protection by Willow. A side effect is that he starts getting glimpses...and then more than glimpses...of Spike. Who, it turns out, has become a Higher Being and Guardian as a result of his sacrifice. And things proceed from there., with a number of surprising turns. Quite good reading, and the slash is muted and discreet: no personal private body parts or activities of same are named. Much more about love than it is about sex. Pleasant and certainly offbeat! mysite.freeserve.com/emptymirrors/anon/fiction/seeingbeyond.html

28 pages of non slash recommendations and only 3 for slash? That will never do! I feel compelled to throw a few more stories out onto the table o’ slash. And thanks to all of you for your previous recommendations – I especially enjoyed Loserville and the stories by Herself. Nan – thanks for putting the link to Wiseacress’ essay on “why spike/xander?” I remember reading that about a year ago but couldn’t remember where it was! Very interesting, even if I don’t agree with quite all her points. And I love her fiction, from Modus Vivendi to the blizzard of Spander “pron” she’s been putting on her livejournal lately. OK – the following are some old and some new, some very good and some merely interesting. Keep in mind, all these recs are being filtered out of my very warped point of view. (Some say I have no taste – I say I have eclectic tastes.) I don’t like extremely bad fic, but am forced to admit I set a lower standard in acceptable grammer & spelling, obvious British-speak by non British characters, and not-quite-there characterization when the story hooks me. And I really don’t mind sex in slash stories…….REALLY don’t mind! You are warned. I’ll try to keep to stuff I haven’t seen anyone else mention here yet. Oh – and my fave is S/X, but am willing to try just about anything…………..um, read just about anything. And I’m not sure my links will work, but if not, hey you can just copy the URL. Ahestele’s “Midnight at LAX” www.geocities.com/btvsslash2/ab/midnightatlax.html Anna S has been mentioned here before – but gotta say, I love just about everything this woman writes – check out her collection of memorable fiction from her live journal – just bits and pieces of scenes or possible stories. But wow. And I swear she can pair anyone and make it work. www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=eliade&keyword=fiction&filter=all Cicirossi writes funny stuff, like “Chocolate Hurricane” and “Hopalong Peter” and “The Great Hellmouth Charity Auction” thegates.net/cicific/index2.html Short little S/Wesley fic by Jane St Clair “Coterminous” www.allaboutspike.com/fic.html?id=809 I have always been fond of Julia the Younger’s “We’re Not Gay, We’re Just Friends. Who Have Sex.” (Alternates Xander and Spike thoughts and I just crack up over each of their innner voices) www.geocities.com/bloodandbeers/helenwere.html Kay’s “Discoveries” is kinda sweet ssfdu.tripod.com/kay/discover.htm Of course, ya always gotta see what LadyCat is up to. Just when I had given up hope she would ever do any more Hearth, now she’s started back up again! www.subtle-salvation.com/ Michelle & Shelly have their very funny “You’ve Got Spike” – but I despair of it ever finishing – unless it’s done and I just haven’t figured that out. www.angelfire.com/boybands/druid555/michelle.htmlIf only for “Continuing Education” and the “Girl” series, gotta give it up for Pet www.obsessedmuch.net/guesses/index2.html I’ve always loved not-a-loser/Xander in Wordsmith’s trilogy of “Reconstruction” “Restoration” and “Reunification” www.angelfire.com/darkside/wordsmith/wordsmith.html Oh, and I liked Jameschick’s two part “Quantum Xander”, ‘cuz I’ve always been a sucker for those “what if/sliding door/quantum leap” kind of stories www.geocities.com/kiwileesa2000/jameschick OMG! I can’t believe I listed this many and could still go on. I am a sick, sick woman. And I’m OK with that.

YAY!!! Another Spander Fan!! I've read all the ones you've listed and liked them all. I check Wiseacress' LJ, everyday, for updates of the three she's got going right now (Prawnverse *giggle* Larvaverse and the Boglescat story). Also, yay on Ladycat updating Hearth. Like you, I've been waiting forever on another chapter. Have you been reading Repossession by Lazuli? I think the link has been posted on here somewhere. It's an excellent h/c with a "not-a-loser" Xander (who I love too). I'm okay with you being a sick woman cuz I have lots more I could list, too Grrr, I meant to quote you, but I got half-way through this post and realized I hadn't.

I read and enjoy other pairings, but none of them lives in my heart like Spike and Xander, sittin' in a tree...... I have been reading Repossession and enjoying it, mostly. Some bits are extremely good, but I can't help wishing Lazuli had a mean, severe editor who would force her (I think it's a her) to be a little less wordy. I mean, my God, we're up to chapter 98 or something and we don't even have a full explanation of Patrick and everyone, much less any other resolution or an end in sight. Have been going through some older stuff lately and re-reading. Gosh, I forgot how much I liked Xanpet by Siege. And now recently I've seen it updated to chapter 14. Don't you sometimes wish you had the magical power to make writers work non-stop 24 hours a day until they finished a story you were hooked on? ;D Except of course, that would be wrong. Lola

Lola Ah yes, that's been my only complaint about Repo. I think some of those chapters could have been combined and some more hints about The Family could have been given. I'm hoping for a really good ending, after sticking with it for 90+ chapters. I got an email, saying she thought there would be about twenty more to go. I really enjoyed Xanpet, too. I emailed Siege, after finally getting chapter 14, telling her/him that I liked it and couldn't wait for more. I didn't get an answer though. I can't wait to see what happens in that one. And, yes, I wish some authors would update every hour

The website is Chocolatey Goodness; the author is Mad Poetess. The tale 's a 17-part Xander/Spike romance in Sunnydale, in the chipped Spike living in Xander's basement era. With extensive subparts. And LOTS of chocolate. I'm about halfway through, and completely charmed. www.hawksong.com/users/mpoetess/stakes/chocogood/index.htmlLATER: It's 5 in the morning and I've finished it. Although it's technically incomplete, emotionally it's finished: that's why the author, Amy, hasn't been able to go on with it, I think. She's come to and written the emotional climax and hasn't tidied some plot ends and doesn't know she's completed it. So don't shy away because it's a WIP--it's a very good story by an amateur writer who doesn't know it's done...but her muse does, so it won't let her tack meaningless stuff on at the end. Muses are pretty smart and don't let you do dumb stuff...most of the time. It's true. Trust me.

Really good story that I printed out and put in a binder. Do you really think it can't go any further? I would like to see a little more of it, just to wrap it up a little more. Here is the link for Xanpet. www.xanderxtreme.com/sub/sublist.htmIt won't link directly to the story, but the author, Siege, is on the left of the page. This site also has a page of Dominant Xander stories. I've read The Long Spiral Downward (WIP). I don't think it's written very well (the author is Australian and lets it come out in Xander at times), but if you want to read a story where Xander is a complete bastard, give it a read. Spike is also very out of character and is portrayed as an abused spouse. Really, the only reason I kept reading it, was because I wanted to see what happened.
