Snow ice cream? Can't say I've heard of it. But I've had real homemade ice cream before; at one family reunion I went to, an uncle broke out a churn and made ice cream for everyone to try. Really good stuff. Ben & Jerry's and High's and Bryer's and Edy's all come close, but there's nothing quite like the real thing. Snow ice cream consists of snow, milk, sugar and vanilla extract. When it starts to snow, you put a bowl out to collect it. Once you have enough, you put the other ingredients in the bowl and mix it up. Stick it in the freezer and when it gets to the hardness you prefer, take it out and enjoy. Snow ice cream is the best dessert EVER!!! Since it snows once in a blue moon here, it really is a rare treat. We get to have it maybe once every two or three years. I haven't had it in about 4 years actually. When it snows in Maryland (it does snow in Maryland, right?), I highly suggest partaking in some. It blows homemade ice cream out of the water!!

Gosh, I really hope ScoopMe comes back! I sound like I'm talking about a pet or something. I wasn't able to post the the last part of the week (work finally caught up with me) and I was hoping to use this long weekend to catch up. I know I probably missed tons of exciting conversations and topics! Damn you ScoopMe!!! Wait. Better not curse it because then it really might not come back. I'm just kidding ScoopMe. I love you, please come back. You've been a great site. Please work. I'm sorry.... There, I think I have appeased the ScoopMe gods. Now if it comes back, I can claim it was all because of me!!!

It does snow quite a lot here during the winter -- this past winter I got sick of the stuff, quickly. But your suggestion sounds like something that might actually make it all worthwhile. I miss Florida, though. Eventually I plan to go back home. But apparently I need to eat some snow ice cream before I go.

As for Memorial Day, it's nice that people like you are so willing to remember the military, especially after the time we (I say we, although I wasn't there) went through coming back from Vietnam. Traditionally, Memorial Day is intended to remember the fallen heroes, the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country -- Veteran's Day is for those of us who survived. If I remember correctly, it was commemorated because of the number of people who died on the beaches of Normandie, but I could be mistaken about that aspect. Being of a conservative Republican nature, I've always supported the military. In fact, I've never understood people -- usually, ultra-liberals -- who refused to do so. I mean, yes, there are going to be whack-jobs in the military, same as in any other profession. No reason to denigrate all the members of the armed forces.
To give an example -- a woman I knew at law school 20 years ago was an "older" student -- as in, old enough to have been a Vietnam War protester. She always said that she had no respect for anyone who fought in that war. I used to challenge her, saying, "I understand how you were against the war, but that doesn't mean you should hold it against the veterans for doing their jobs." Didn't matter to her. That's the mentality that I can't tolerate, and that I can't respect. These people are over there dying for you, and you treat them like dirt? No way.
By the way, I remember one of my uncles referring to what we now call "Veterans' Day" as "Armistice Day." It originally commemorated the signing, on November 11, 1918, at 11:00 a.m., of the armistice agreement ending the First World War. It was later changed to honor all veterans.Laura

Patti, when I look at your profile, there's only a broken picture link on it. The same, when I look to the left of a post you've written. On your profile, you need to enter the complete URL of the picture you're using without any surrounding punctuation/symbols at all, as in: www.websitename.com/picname.jpgNo brackets, no less than/more than symbols, no double quotes, nothing.

Nan, there was a problem with her pic earlier, but I can see her pic now. Apparently it's only you who now can't see Patti's pic. I'm pretty sure it's her -- cute redhead in the blue top, right? Goes by the name PattiT?

David, how did you get your picture so big? All I seem to get is a teeny tiny square that basically won't hold anything.

Nope, still can't see it. Just a broken picture link. As long as everybody else can see it, it doesn't matter, I guess.

In your profile where you input the web address for your pic, you'll also see two boxes with numbers representing dimensions in pixels. Increase those numbers and you'll increase your picture -- just don't get too carried away. Mine's set to 65 H/W. Go too far above that and it will look like a bleedin' billboard. ;D

I can't see it either. At least on her most recent post near the top of page 3. This is getting to be fascinating -- almost like the Emperor's New Clothes, only those most worthy can see Patti's picture. Like me. Or maybe it's sort of like Jasmine -- only some of us can see her true self, her true beauty. Or maybe I'm just completely full of it.
