HI guys. I'm back and as proimised Ihave been drinking. I had problems with the ISP and so skulled my drinks whilst waiting for the technical advice person. AND in the end I had to fix the problem the old-fashioned way - turn the computer off/turn the computer on. In any case I feel close to being plastered now. I'm literally swaying in my chair and I'm not even bothering trying to read the screen as I type. One thing at a time will be perfect.
I have two thoughts regarding Riley which I wish to share - I have no f***ing idea why (as an aside during editing don't you just love that way astrices(?) fix swearing! ;D). They both seem irrelevent. (And as I've just found out hat I've got an essay due NEXT WEEK it will be a long time before I'm back. IN any case Iwill probably delete this post tomorrow and be glad that I haven't got time to read the subsequent posts).
First thought. Riley is a good guy. And it seemd to me that if Buffy hadhave had more confidence in him that he would have made a good partner. I have a Riley of my own and in Buffy's circumstances I would have given him the blind trust and confidence that I gave my Dad. I htink that is what is required, but of course, Buffys relationship with her Dad is stuffed because her Dad left her. As an aside I don't htink it is coincidental that Dave linked the idea of a father's love for his child and Riley's love with Buffy. As Spring pointed ou the two are not he same, but to me htere is a fundamental opverlap: one's relationship eith your dad shapes future relationships with partners. One bad relationship leasds to others. I can say this - I had a great relationship with my dad and now I have a great marriage. Others who were not so lucky in one of these relationships can say that I have no idea what I'm talking about and they would be sooo right: my life experience is very limited (AND I'M NOT SORRY FOR THAT).
Second. Now this thought is near and dear to my heart so bear with me. Please ignore the fact that it overlaps with what Spring says - she is older and smarter than me and I want credit for the little thoughts that I have - OK?! In an epsidoe (as usual I don't know which f**king one), but Spike says that he knows where Buffy lives. This gets me thinking about Buffy's mind as a house. (My husband is supposed to be bringing me another drink at this point - and it would be good for thinking. I don't thjink I will get up, because I think I would have tocrawl to the kitchen. Dieting is great for economical alcohol consumption!) Where was I? If Buffy's mind was a house what kind of house would it be? Most people (eg Xander and Willow) would have a standard house with living areas and bedrooms. Usually the bedroom is private (i.e. restricted access) but not oof-limits. For convenience as it is a mental house mostpeope would have allocated rroms for their sexual partners. Buffy, because of her experiences and demonic makeup, has a different house. Her (mental) house would be like a castle. In the tower bedroom (turret? - I don't know Jane Austen does not set her books in castles!) she would have her romantic/fairy tale-bedroom with Angel. Downstairs in the normal bedrooms she would have a master bedroom for Riley and a poky, dusty small bedroom for Parker. In the dungeon, hidden behind secret panels she would have her spot for pre-souled Spike. (How stupid am I - haven't even considered souled Spike and where he would go. Oh well! The season si not finished fior me). (Good he's come with drinks. Cheers - hope you all like 'Long Necks' - 30ml Midoori, 30 ml lemon juice, 40ml Vodka blended with ice. They are quite nice and better in large quantities. Decided not to have the Tequilla. I know you are all riveted. This post will be seriously edited, if not dleted tomorrow. Hope I can sleep tonight. ;D) Where was I? The pouint for the relegation of bedrooms is two-fold. Firstly, if someone was looking for Buffy inher mental castle they would have to have enough life experience (time multiplied by adversity, if not down-right evil) to know to look for secret-doors. Xander, Willow and Riley would not know about them. Giles (the father figure), Angel and Riley would all know that there might be secret doors in Buffy's mind. I would even go far as to speculate ;D that the really private parts (i.e. dungeon and turret) of Buffy's mind would be booby trapped. She does not just put up a "Private - Keep Out" sign but will actively drive people away from he idiosyncracies (this is not the right word, but it's best I can do). Moreover, souled people such as Riley and Angel who might be asked into Buffy's mind would actually wait for an invitation - or at least some emergency to kick down the door. Spike, the souless, did not wait for an invitation - he walked around Buffy's mind at will. He ignored the signs about privacy, avoided the booby traps and knew about the secret rooms. Riley did not have a chance. He was just a normal guy with normal (proabably happy experiences), but he was too young, too inexperienced and too nice to have any inkiling about Buffy's mind. That is why I prefer Buffy with Spike than with Riley (Good as Angel was.)
Oh well. I better go. Dave or Rae or Vlad could you please delete this as soon as you read it. <<<admin note from vlad: Delete this and have everyone miss out on all the fun? ? ? No friggin' way! LOLOLOL>>> I know Iwill regret it in the morning (my time). I think I have enough Dutch courage to go and get my last essay results. God I am nervous - I have got a shocking feeling about it. I will do badly and everyone will know the truth I am not smart - I just rely on hard work to get good grades and now my Buffy/S'Cubie obsession stops me from working. O f**k!
G'night. Hope I don't have a hang-over in the morning - I've got class . . .and kids (omygodimgonnadie).

Rob's Triangles: Chapter 12 and 13 are now available on the S'cubie Website in the Chronicles of Truth area for your perusing pleasure. Take a gander.
Nice chapter (13) Rob...I really love the storyline you are focussing on in this chapter. Of the three, I think it's my absolute favorite, but I really like the others also. Keep 'em coming!

You said Buffy's relationship with her dad was "stuffed" - not a typo, but an Australian slangy? I think we are all products of our relationships and experiences. Buffy was a product of her relationship with her dad, her watcher, her friends, her boyfriends - etc. She struggled against her feelings for Spike for a long time, until her experiences allowed her to finally recognize and accept her love for Spike - too late of course. Now to go get the Long Neck ingredients..........

Looks like quite a party last night, sorry I missed it. "Debris everywhere, gazing, it's amazing..." There was some discussion of films with mutual rescuing - here's one where the heroine rescues the hero by literally sweeping him off his feet: Drew Barrymore in "Ever After". One of my favorite girl power movies. That was a good year for girl power movies, come to think - Ever After, Madeline and Mulan (which wasn't half as bad as I'd expected). What can I say? I'm raising two potential slayers, I notice these things. Rob et al, about Buffy-Xander: Speaking as the hopelessly romantic: Why shouldn't she fall for her best friend? I married mine. So have some of my friends. Passion makes for a good start, but friendship is important for the long haul. I'm just gonna keep hope alive. (Do we need a smiley with an eyepatch?)

As part of this board, we got a nifty calendar function. I'll try my best to keep it up to date. Right now, it's mostly S'cubie birthdays and the birthdays of our favorite actors -- seems I share a birthday with Robia La Morte, how very cool!
Not everyone is on there -- some, like D.B. Woodside (Robin Wood) didn't bother to list a birthday on their official resume at IMDB, so if your favorite Buffy/Angel actor didn't make the list (James is there, don't panic), it's not because I intentionally left anyone out. However, if you do know the birthday of someone I didn't find, let me know (you can privately message me, no need to clutter up the main board with this).
Also, if anyone catches wind of the Fall TV schedule before I do, please let me know when it gets posted, so we can list when the new episodes of Angel will be airing.
And if there are any other dates that you think are significant to the S'cubies, let me know.

Please do not delete that post! It's freakin' hysterical!!
Kerrie -
I agree with a lot of what you said. I especially liked your thoughts on the "rooms" of a house and who Buffy allows to enter.
I don't hate Riley - in fact, in season 4 and 5, I loved[/b] him. I thought, while a little on the bland side, he was what Buffy needed at the time after the tumultous relationship with Angel. I agree with Spring that no matter how many times he said he was OK with Buffy being stronger, Riley was not - he needs to feel needed, to be the "strong" one, emotionally and physically, in the relationship.
Oh, and Kerrie, your asides in your post - couldn't breathe while I was reading your post because I was laughing so hard! You are priceless!!
