I conned Kitty into watching Time Bandits this morning. David Warner is SUCH a fine Ultimate Evil - If Buffy had been fighting him, she probably would have lost.
Sean Connery, sigh. Just gets better with age...

Over on ScoopMe the first post of each part automatically brought up Alexandra's Welcome/disclaimer.
On this board you can jump right to page "xx".
Since we have so many new folks signing up, my question is: How can we alert them to the twin S'cubie "pillars of posting etiquette": NO SPOILERS (or anything which might remotely be considered a spoiler including episode titles, magazine interviews, etc) and COURTESY above all else.
My only thought is to have a page "inserted" between the home page and anywhere else--like what Vlad has done on the website to give his contact information. Yes, I know it would be an unnecessary stop for most of us, but better safe than sorry.
But since you all know the board better maybe you have a better idea.
The problem is that either it needs to be very visible and in your face on the first page, or else it needs to be constantly repeated throughout the posts. I'm just concerned that some newbie will innocently remark, "hey what do you all think about the fact that Vincent Kartheiser has been rehired beginning in the third episode" (totally fabricated statement) without realizing that that is info many on the board don't want to know.
Ideas?
Sue

Looks like quite a party last night, sorry I missed it. "Debris everywhere, gazing, it's amazing..." quote] Anne, I had exactly the same reaction. At the same time I realized that there is no way I'm going to be able to keep up when 20 pages get posted between 2 am and 6 am. So, I skipped through a few pages and a few posts and I'm going to make a request to those who are on late-night schedules due to jobs or location (Kerrie). If you post something really interesting on-topic, or something you would like reactions/replies to, would you either be sure to repost sometime during the day, if possible, or at least note the post number and refer to it in a later post. Honest, I try, but some of the posting parties, when read at 1 pm the next day, are like "you kind of had to be there and in the moment." I'm sorry to miss them, but to reply to many of the comments at this point is really irrelevant. So, I have to admit that I skip and hop thru them so I can get caught up and into the loop. However, I'm afraid of missing something which someone really wants a reply to or making someone feel invisible just because I couldn't read thru all of the a.m. posts. Sorry, Sue

Sorry, Sue Agree with you 100%, Sue. I would like to be able to read through all the posts but this morning when I came into the office, there were 30+ pages of posts from when I had left Friday afternoon! WOW!! I enjoy reading the banter but I'm afraid that I can't take the time to scan through all the posts because a lot of it is just banter (especially when y'all have late night posting parties). Like Sue, I'm afraid I'm going to miss a post like Kerrie's or other posts that bring up discussion (Buffy/Xander pairing, etc.) but I just don't have the time to go through all the pages. So, I join Sue in asking people who post something they would like to be discussed to either repost the comments or reference it in a post (i.e. "see post 282 in Part 3 about my thoughts on Riley"). I know I'm missing out on some funny stuff from these late night parties but, unfortunately, I just don't have the time to read and scan through. My bosses actually think I should work just because they pay me. I don't get it either. OK, now I really do need to work because since I came into the office about 3 hours ago, I haven't done much work. Off to the battlefield.... -L

Ideas? Sue This board is set up slightly differently than ScoopMe, so you probably missed it but it's there. It's on the main page of the message board -- the page you go back to if you click on "home" in the menu bar at the top of this page. Since we control this whole board and therefore can make universal policy governing the whole thing, Vlad was able to make one ettitquette disclaimer at the very beginning of everything, based on Alexandra's intro to the S 3 threads on ScoopMe. To put it at the beginning of each thread would be redundant, and it works very well where it is since the rules of S'cubie ettiquette serve for all discussion topics here universally. Not surprising if we S'cubies don't pay much attention to it since we already know the rules and what we're getting ourselves into, we don't necessarily do a lot of reading on our way into the board. But for someone new, rest assured that Vlad's disclaimer is the first thing they'll see as they try to join the board.

Now that Buffy the Vampire Slayer has taken it's final bow, what shall we watch on Tuesday nights? Well, if the schedule remains otherwise intact, the WB's Gilmore Girls is a viable option. It's always been one of the *other* better shows on television, at least one of the better ones not involving Joss Whedon in its production. And I just read that there's all new reason for former BtVS fans to start watching .... Jane Espenson is joining the writing staff of Gilmore Girls. Yes, it's true -- one of the better writers of BtVS is jumping ship and not moving with the rest of the bullpen over to Angel. But I'm thinking that outside the Jossverse, she could have done a lot worse than signing on to Gilmore Girls. Two more writers not making the move, unfortunately, are Tim Minear and Marti Noxon. Okay, Tim was at Angel once, but he left to run Firefly. Both have other projects. David Greenwalt and Drew Goddard are moving to Angel, however. David was there prior to trying his hand at running the ABC show Miracles, which ABC was even less kind to than Fox was to Firefly. Anyhow, that's the latest info on where the writers will be going. There's an opinion article at www.slayage.com/ entitled "The Fallout" which does a fairly decent job out outlining where the major players -- both in front of the camera and behind -- will be working come next fall.

Looks like quite a party last night, sorry I missed it. "Debris everywhere, gazing, it's amazing..." There was some discussion of films with mutual rescuing - here's one where the heroine rescues the hero by literally sweeping him off his feet: Drew Barrymore in "Ever After". One of my favorite girl power movies. That was a good year for girl power movies, come to think - Ever After, Madeline and Mulan (which wasn't half as bad as I'd expected). What can I say? I'm raising two potential slayers, I notice these things. Rob et al, about Buffy-Xander: Speaking as the hopelessly romantic: Why shouldn't she fall for her best friend? I married mine. So have some of my friends. Passion makes for a good start, but friendship is important for the long haul. I'm just gonna keep hope alive. (Do we need a smiley with an eyepatch?) I don't entirely dismiss the idea of Buffy and Xander. As I said, my heart will always wish that Xander's devotion could be rewarded in some way other than getting his eye poked out. I think Xander and Buffy would have a legitimate shot at making each other happy. As far as the capacity for passion goes.....how do I say this? I think Xander has layers that Buffy hasn't considered. I think she would be pretty surprised if she took the time to explore things more deeply. Just my opinion, though. Looks certainly aren't the issue. It's not as if Xander is a troll. Buffy's smart enough to recognize that he's a handsome man. Clearly it goes deeper than that. Therefore whatever she may have thought she needed in the past would have to change. The events of the season finale provided a springboard for a myriad of possibilities...Buffy/Xander included. There is some wonderful B/X fanfic out there that expresses this quite well. One big reason I don't participate in the fanfic reccomendations is my personal faves are about that very topic. I think it's fair to say a lot of people here aren't thrilled about the prospect of reading about them in love....so I bow out of those discussions gracefully. Anne is still my new hero. ;D

At the close of Chapter 12 there is a development that requires some explanation. I didn't want to do that on an open board out of courtesy for those who haven't got that far along in the story.
Therefore I've taken the embarrassing step of posting Chapter 12 author's notes to establish some things that I have altered. I made some changes to serve my story better. Not so much that the characters themselves change....but enough to serve my story.
Those of you who are keeping up (and I warmly thank you all...you keep me going) should probably go to the topic.
Those of you who haven't read past Chapter 12 don't have to read the notes until then.
Those of you who think the story sucks should simply ignore this topic altogether. Thanks for your attention.

Sue, I agree with you about the posting problem and it has worried me for quite some time. Your solutions are good and I've got a worse one (use Instant messages to alert individuals about posts directed at them). I for one would have trouble reposting any of my thoughts - not just technologically (stupid as I am I think I could manage), but emotionally. For example if no-one had responded to my 'Riley' thoughts post I certainly would have deleted it this morning. Reposting or referring to things that I later regret/am embarrassed by (almost everything) would be torturous. Likewise I doubt whether I would ever start a thread on one of my badly expressed, badly thought-out ideas. Sorry I could not be more supportive of your ideas, maybe others will be. Cheers. Kerrie. NB I really do find the 'notify' option useful for sorting out some of the debris, especially if people use informative subject headings.

Just gets better with age... Anne, I also love Time Bandits. It's also one of the tales that have taught me to be skeptical and a bit more humble about initial reactions. The first time I saw it, I loathed it. Successive viewings, however, impressed its charm into my unwilling heart/head. That's about what happened to me with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I remember happening on an ep with Spike and Drusilla--I think the one where they're bleeding Angel for Dru's cure--and I thought it the most idiotic thing I'd ever seen. Then, a couple of years later, I happened on the FX reruns and was, of course, blown away. So I don't give as much weight to my initial reactions as I used to.
And David Warner is indeed awesome as the Ultimate Evil. Much more convincing than the First--and a whole lot funnier.
If anybody hasn't seen this wonderful film, go out and rent it immediately! [/color]

Rob's Triangles: Chapter 12 and 13 are now available on the S'cubie Website in the Chronicles of Truth area for your perusing pleasure. Take a gander. Nice chapter (13) Rob...I really love the storyline you are focussing on in this chapter. Of the three, I think it's my absolute favorite, but I really like the others also. Keep 'em coming! Vlad, TA, tp Thanks, Vlad. We have a ways to go yet, but things are starting to heat up now. I write faster when things get rolling. I'm flattered that you like this one so much. I hope I can keep pleasing those who enjoy it.

Kerrie, your post about Buffy's mental castle, and why her different men have access to it (or not) was, I think spot on! Brilliant job, especially considering the drinking and the impending tests! :-) And congrats as well on passing your tests.

As part of this board, we got a nifty calendar function. I'll try my best to keep it up to date. . Dave, wonderful job with the calendar. That is a great addition to the site! Thank you for all the time it must have taken to gather the information and input it. I especially like the links you can go to for each entry, to see who played what part and so on. You have a pm on this as well. (or will in a mo.) Thanks again.
