I haven't kept up with her progress, and am shamefully ignorant of whether there was much damage in the Carolinas, or if the storm turned....but am very glad to hear you are not getting the brunt of it. A day off with great sleeping weather doesn't sound so bad.... She beat up the Carolinas pretty good, as well as my old stomping grounds of Virginia Beach. I saw one photo of a Land Rover on its side getting pelted by waves from the storm surge, and another of three people holding on to each other trying to stand errect on the Va. Beach Boardwalk. So how'd you know what I've been doing all day? I've got a zillion channels on the digital cable, and you know what, daytime TV still sucks. I've got a four day weekend now (I only worked one day this week, your tax dollars at work). Not sure what I'll do to fill the idle hours. I might even end up ....gawd no, anything but that .... cleaning house .....

I'm going to go out for a bit, but staying logged on, so if I look like I"m ignoring anyone, it's just cause I'm not really here...... It's ok Patti, you don't have to make up stories. You aren't the first woman who ignored me, and won't be the last. I used to be married, you know ....

I was going out to get some supper, but I remembered the hot wings in the freezer, so I just fixed that and a salad, but now it looks like you were right, since I'm back so soon...but truly, you weren't!

I'm thinking surely there is something you can do other than clean house though - I've not been driven to THAT extreme in some time.... I've only a few more pages of Wisdom of War left... don't you have anything you haven't read yet? Or a commentary on a DVD? Think man!

These tree roaches mentioned as residing in Texas - do they also inhabit the suburbs of Austin? And do they bite? I will be visiting there in a week, and there will be time spent outside with my friends and their five dogs. I am bringing OFF.
Count me in as someone who LOVES autumn. My idea of a perfect day is today - 69-70, cool, not too buggy, blue sky, a brisk breeze. Lovely. Laura, I'll join the I LOVE FALL club!
I put up with winter. Biggest bummer is finding all the parks where I take the dogs to be iced up and too slippery for me to spend much time there. On the other hand, no worries about ticks. I'm a native Yankee; snow is part of the scenery. I remember, about six years ago, going to a dog show near Leesburg, VA. It was May and the weather decided to imitate Massachusetts in November, complete with chill winds and some light rain. I had my parka and felt fine. All my friends from VA and MD came down with colds and were thoroughly miserable....[glow=red,2,300][/glow][shadow=green,left,300]GAIL ;D[/shadow] Much as I'd love to be president of the "I Love Fall" club, it was Nickim's idea, seconded by Karen, back in Part 42. But I'll happily be an AVP!

Got a notice from Mary that she's finished Chapter 15, at the usual sites where her tale is posted. I sent her back a note congratulating her and hoping she'd return for the discussions on/after October 1. [/color]

I'm here, Dave. Watching Isabel do a lot of blowing around, but no rain. That's how it started here -- a lot of wind first, and then the rain came. But even still, we aren't getting it poured on like the Carolinas did, and I suspect you'll probably have even less as she moves north.

Yes dear, whatever you say. Dave, have you sent Spring a 'yes I'll be there' for the S'cubiefest next summer?

Nan, Laura, are you planning to be at the gathering next summe? I know Spring said she'd post soon letting us know the preliminary results, but I'm not noted for my patience...

I do have copies of Immortal and Chosen sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Probably should finally read them. I've not heard good things about Chosen -- Word is it's just a collection of episode synopses from season 7, rather than trying to turn season 7 into a single coherent story. Immortal has promise, though, it was written as a dual effort by Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder; seperately they are very good, but the projects they colaberated on that I've seen so far they are phenominal. What do you think of Wisdom of War? I really appreciated Golden's storytelling prowess, but at the same time, I just didn't get into the story itself. But it definitely has it's moments. He's a very visual writer, though; whenever he described a scene, I could see it in my head and whenever a Scooby spoke, I could hear their voice. I'd venture to say only Joss Whedon knows the Scoobies better than Christopher Golden does.

Dave, have you sent Spring a 'yes I'll be there' for the S'cubiefest next summer? Way back when she first asked for them. Why, didn't I make the guest list? Or are you worried I won't show, with my boa in tow?

I'd only read The Gatekeeper Trilogy by Golden before. This one is much more adult oriented I think, and I have both enjoyed it more and less for that. I have found it truly scary, very interesting in the character depiction, (all voices well written, except perhaps Tara's?) and very moody...there's a real sense of nightmare about it. At the same time, like you, I just....something about the plot just doesn't do it for me. The two types of creature involved are one type more than needed, I think that's the problem...and by this point in the story, I shouldn't feel that way.

Patti, I've told her that barring any unforeseen circumstances beyond my control (like, a case going to trial that can't be moved -- not that that's likely at the present time), I will be there. In fact, I volunteered to come early to help organize and to cook. We're contemplating many, many delicious Italian meals!
