Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to part 45 of the Soulful Spike Society's ever evolving discussion on all things Spike and many things that aren't. While we have very few rules here, we do ask that you refrain from posting spoilers of any type -- even itty bitty ones -- anywhere except in the designated spoiler posting area. Beyond that, simply behave in a manner that you would wish others to behave toward you. Don't make me get my bullet, people. Oh, for the record, you don't have to be a Spike, AtS or BtVS fanatic to post here, but it helps..... And if you get a chance, be sure to check out our main site at www.soulfulspike.com. Be careful not to step on the dog, or fall in the jacuzzi as you navigate our many rooms. Lurk all you want, but please don't be afraid to say howdy! Have fun and happy posting!

Randy Giles, Our Arch-Technopagan Vlad has taken pity upon you and fixed your password problem. If you will check your email, he has sent you a new temporary password which will allow you to access your old persona. Once there you can change the password if you wish, and return to your old status, with S'cubie name, stars, and post numbers intact! (delete the new persona afterwards.) Enjoy!

Do of course realize that just as we can't move your old status over to your new one (i.e., re-instate your old Master S'cubie status to your new identity), we also can't do the reverse and credit your old identity with any posts made under your new identity. But even still, I'm figuring you'd rather be a Master S'cubie than a Newbie Reborn.

PATTI - In the previous section, you mentioned that I was a prof.
I am not a prof. I think this idea comes from the fact that I have mentioned I lived in a University town, have an MBA, and possibly, from the fact that I write in a pompous and know-it-all manner.
But despite these powerful clues, I am not a prof - unless you count my professorship in the School of Ebulgeometrics at the VHISN, and so far, no court of law has counted that.

Does anybody out there know when the term "Scoobies" was first actually used on the show?
And, on an unrelated matter: Any chance one of you might have taped the West Wing premiere last night and would send me the tape. I'd be happy to pay for the tape and postage.
Jim was out of town and I said I'd tape it, then I got involved in helping Allie with her Calc homework (which is at least a legitimate excuse) and forgot. (No chance of forgetting to tape after this week--since I'll be setting up the Angel tape on one TV, I'll remember to do WW too--probably watch WW with hubby and then Angel on tape, durn!)

Well - I can only tell you that in the episodes I have analyzed (which doesn't include Season 1), the first occurence of the reference to "Scoobies" occurs in "What's My Line." I think it is Part 1. Xander and Cordelia are breaking into Buffy's house for some reason - and it is then that Xander refers to the gang as "Scoobies."

I remember seeing a picture of Spike and Dawn on the motorcycle he knocks the biker demon off. The picture had the name backward. Was the bike a Yamaha or a Suzuki?
Can anybody tell me? Pretty please with rose petals?[/color]

Last night, makd made what I hope will be a permanent imaginary addition to our still largely unexplored S'cubie HQ, whose fixtures we know now include an inappropriately named dog, our mascot, and at least one hot tub.
Recounting this exchange of posts, I remarked about 2 in the morning that:
You know, after having to be out in public and polite for awhile (like me hanging around the Live Journals), it's so nice to come home here, kick off my shoes, wiggle my toes, and know the chances of my giving any S'cubie mortal offense are just about nil. Ahhhh. Home.
And makd replied:
Nan
The hour is late and clearly we are both insomniac tonight, and we come to the board in comfort.
I will send you an image:
You, I, Raksha, and Betsy are here at the board right now:
It's a little chilly here on Long Island, so: we are sitting in four leather comfy chairs, our feet bare and wriggling on four ottomans. Between the chairs are small tables that hold glasses of port and chocolates. Each of us is comfy, warmed by the port, warmed by the heady scent of the leather chairs, warm afghans around us.
Soon, we are each able to finally sleep, lulled by the droning sound we each make as the port and the chocolate take over.
Now, that's trust; that's home, and that's S3. Yes? Yes.
Did I make a thrall?
I propose we keep makd's splendid peaceful Thrall Room as a perpetually cosy retreat from RL and a place always available in our imaginations.

Thanks. (Isn't that where they meet the bug-man assassin?) I'm not sure if this is exactly where they meet the bug-man assassin but that is in this episode. I did a search on the Buffy Dialogue Database and it appears that this is actually the first episode ever that someone refers to them as the Scooby Gang. Xander needs Cordelia to give him a ride to Buffy's house. The exchange is below:

Just a quick reminder - I also posted in the wee hours of the morning or late last night depending on how you look at it, that I'm off to the Lone Star State today, will be absent from the board for a week or so.
Be brave and try to cope with the crushing burden of No Gail; it's not as bad as No Mail, and I'll be thinking of y'all as I munch on ribs, well, more likely healthy boring stuff since my friend who I'm visiting is into healthy foods. (thank the gods, an excuse to get OFF the Atkins diet for a week! hope she has a scale, I lost 6 lbs. and don't want to gain too much of it back; that's 16 lost from when I began)
RAKSHA The Travelin' Demon - Yeeeee-Hah!!!
